Anyone dreading 3rd tri?

Re: Anyone dreading 3rd tri?

  • when I asked  my doc if this heartburn was going to get better he laughed.  "no....it will get worse."

so yeah, I'm not looking forward to that aspect of entering the third tri  :(
I experienced my first "Holy hellfire, what is going on inside me" heart burn yesterday. I guess it's off to sleep sitting up from here on out!

  • I'm trying not to think about it, but I'm both excited for it and dreading it.  I can't imagine it being any worse than the first 16 weeks, but I'm also a naive FTM so it's possible.  I am curious if I am ever going to look pregnant though, right now I just look like I lost weight everywhere but my belly and boobs!

  • I'm excited for 3rd tri because it means DH will be back (and maybe I'll finally look pregnant instead of just chubby?), but also dreading it because it's already hard to get in and out of my bed (totally going to look into a step like a PP recommended!), my back already kills me when I'm driving in to work, and in the last month (June) DH will be going out to sea during the week for 3 of the 4 weeks and I'm very stressed about the potential for going into labor while I'm home alone and he's gone. Also, there is a chance he may be able to get back to shore if I'm in labor, but I'm freaked out about false alarms and having him pull strings to get back only to find out it was just BH or something.

  • I am both nervous about it, and looking forward to it. I'm nervous about swelling and being really hot and uncomfortable. When I am hot I am NOT a pleasant person to be around. I'm really excited though purely because I haven't hated much about pregnancy, all the aches and pains and stuff is pretty fascinating. I already have 24/7 heartburn/reflux that I could do without, and some of the back pain, and my nerves about actually BEING a mom, and money, and all that aren't great but I'm so excited to take a crack at it!

I am really really nervous about the actual birth though. I have a hard time even thinking about that part...
  • Can't find definite info on when 3rd trimester starts. Anyone know?
  • It varies from where you read but essentially 26w4-5d. Some will say 25wks, others 27wks. I just say 26wks. Kinda like most of us did when hitting 2nd tri and calling it 13wks.

  • I'm much more nervous about delivery than 3rd tri... Perhaps that's the FTM naivety in me...

  • redhotmama7 ....I am too. Seriously terrified. Just the thought of an episiotomy is enough to bring tears to my eyes. eeek

  • I'm looking forward to it, since I have absolutely no idea what it's going to be like. It's all rainbows, right guys? RIGHT?

I am really nervous about birth, so while I am looking forward to the third trimester it also brings me closer to a whole new experience that is completely out of my hands and that is always scary.. I have a friend who had a 5 ish pound baby and she got a level 4 tear and had to have surgery to reconstruct everything. I don't know how she has never complained about it, she must be made of stuff I'm not made of. She is now my hero.

  • I'm excited and dreading third tri at the same time. DH has gotten even more attentive the farther along I get which is awesome. I am also incredibly excited to meet baby and find out if it's a bot or a girl. On the other hand, I'm already feeling huge and that only gets worse. It's already a struggle to get in and out of bed, especially in the middle of the night, and that only gets worse.

I don't even remember the episiotomy. They could have taken a limb and I wouldn't have cared as long as they got him out.

  • I'm finally not sick and I'm not yet huge so I'm just going to bask in the second tri for another 5 glorious weeks :D

As a FTM I'm nervous about all of the "unknown" that comes with delivery. Tearing??? Yikes! I'm also more apprehensive about breastfeeding than I am of the third trimester. I guess ignorance as a FTM is bliss sometimes.

Actually, most OB's don't do a routine episiotomy any more. The risk for deeper tearing (third degree and worse, plus possible tearing up to your rectum) is higher than without one. I was also scared of having one until my OB told me that they don't do them unless they absolutely have to.

I'm going to ask about the nurses stretching your hoo-ha out before delivery at my next visit. I hear it can be done.

That added to me my fear...tearing up to your rectum!!! I think I may just stay pregnant...I'll just keep him in. That will work right?

  • I'm already a little grumpy. My hope is that I have a weird back-wards pregnancy and feel super awesome the closer I get to my due date ;)

Gahhhh! I googled. There is perineal massage where you put some olive oil on your taint and massage the area during the last 6wks of pregnancy. I started getting all antsy while reading it and my husband reminded me that they said that on Baby Mama lol.

The nurses totally did this for me and I barely tore at all. It just involves lubrication and stretching things out. I couldn't see what she was doing, so I wasn't embarrassed.
What does this stretching entail? Did you ask for it? And I can only assume that all modesty goes out the window during child birth. So why not?

I would also love to know more about this!

  • I was feeling pretty excited about the third trimester until yesterday when I was told that the tailbone pain I'm having is a result of a break I had 20 yrs ago coming under stress and it might crack from pressure during the 3rd tri or during labor. I'm officially terrified.

  • The idea of 3rd Tri is terrifying.  I like to think that it's a long time away.  But it's not.  Have not done a thing for the nursery, though I guess it's progress that hubby's getting someone to fix the broken window (long, dumb story for that.)  I haven't had the magical surge of energy I was told can happen in 2nd trimester.  Maybe it's still coming...I can hope!

And the idea of the birth itself is kind of frightening, especially since they may not be able to give me an epidural due to a surgery I had.  I don't know if I can handle getting baby out without being medicated!  (I guess I have to give huge props to all my fore bearers who managed without.  I'm not that hardcore.)
