Re: Tax time!

  • Our refund is much larger than normal. However I have to get stuff fixed first or else they will send us a stupid prepaid card type thing.
  • Loading the player...
  • We owe about 1500 so far. Still working on more deductions but don't think it will come down much.

  • I voted SS because we haven't done our taxes just yet, and I'm not sure how it will go just yet.  I'm sure we get a refund, but I don't know if it will be large or small.

  • We are getting our biggest refund yet. Thank goodness. We need it!

Define "small" vs. "Large". Cause I think ours may be mid sized... But tired brain may be overthinking it!

  • @Inn2 that's definitely a relative term. Mine was huge compared to what I'd normally get before LO, but small compared to what some get. I do taxes for a living, so I see refunds of all sizes, including over $10K.
  • It is SCARY how much we owe… pay. We have a small company and pay throughout the year… it still makes me sick how much we give to the govt. S.I.C.K

It's up to you what you think small and large are. It will vary from person to person. I said large because we are getting well above $6000 and that's really large to us. But we are young and poor so it might be small to someone else!
This is us. Next year will be a while different story though. I'll be making a lot more, which is good for us but I will be a sad panda if I owe taxes lol.

  • Uh DH is self employed. We pay in. Always.

  • We don't pay taxes while in St Kitts. But we were in the US 3 months of 2013 having Clara, so we have to an prorated taxes--on 1/4 of my year's income. Expecting that to hurt.

Dropped them at our CPA last week, Im hoping to find out next week what we get.  Last year it was $3500 but since then we've bought a second house and had a kid so hopefully its closer to $5000.  I think its total BS that only $2500 in student loan interest is deductible.  I paid $7500 in just interest last year, I should be able to write it all off.

  • We don't deduct anything during the teaser to make sure we get a big refund. It ensures we get a little savings. Sadly,, during the year it means we get like 50% taken out. Insane. At least in Canada you get good mat leave and healthcare and other things.

  • We got a pretty nice refund but after putting the $1,000 credit for Carmen into her savings, installing new heat/ac unit and FINALLY paying off my wedding band we were left with very little. We ordered Chinese and ordered a movie haha

No completed yet, but we usually get a lot back - as much as $11k one year, but typically $5-7k. We farm and have public jobs. Tons of write offs as young farmers starting out - buying equipment, land, etc. We have a truck we haven't even started depreciating bc we haven't needed it. I wonder how having LO will affect it.....

  • Not sure yet. We just took them in. But a baby should add something to our normal refund.

That's what we got! And we paid an entire years interest on our mortgage. We were going to owe if it wasn't for DS. I think I know why and we will be fixing that for next year but either way, it's crap!

We had our first full year in our new home, new baby, both of us were in school full-time...this was a good refund year for us. Like, $6,500 good.

Love it. That's about what we got. 6700! But it cost us 6600 OOP to have Jude so...

I put SS because we haven't filed yet. I don't know what it will be. I fixed our withholdings a couple years ago because we used to get a pretty decent return and I figured it would be better to break even. Nothing has really changed and I didn't adjust anything for DD, so I'm thinking we should get a little something back. Once I see how much, I'll probably adjust the withholdings again. Sorry, IRS. No interest free loan from me.

  • $8,000 refund for us this year. I think we made about $10,000 this year (besides student loans), haha! So, I'd say we made out pretty good this year.

Do you mean you guys made $10,000 gross income? And you got $8,000 back? Or am I crazy?
