I need clothes.

So my personal weight loss goal was to not buy any new clothes until I lost some of the baby weight.  Fast forward 10 months, and I have only lost 6 lbs. of the 45 I set out to.  Of the 2 pairs of work pants I owned, I split one today while at work.  My shape has changed drastically since DD was born, and my old faithful stores no longer flatter me the way that they used to.  Where do you buy your own clothes?  How would you categorize your style?

Also tuning in. I have three pairs of work pants that really don't fit that well... and I just realized one is stained beyond cleaning (I think I got LO's aquafor on them. swell.), the hem fell out of the other, and the third? I just saw a pic of myself in them, and they look like clown pants. Sigh.

I just signed up for Stitch Fix. I'm not holding out lots of hope, to be honest, but I just don't have the time or patience (Or money, but I figure there's not much getting around that.) to shop much anymore and figured it couldn't hurt to try it out.

  • I'm not sure...maybe Ny&Co and Gap (they both always have sales)? Me personally I do a lot shopping at Target (people are always surprised when I tell them Target) and Express (I NEVER pay full price for anything but their sizing can run small in some items).

I've always been an apple, I'm just more of an apple these days.  Before, my wardrobe was a lot of Banana Republic and J Crew.  I don't want to bu. a lot from there now since it's expensive and I hope to someday be back in my old clothes.

I've bought a lot of work stuff from Ann Taylor Loft--they have good sales, and the stuff I buy has been "vanity sized" so I can fool myself.

Petra, I've found some luck with tops that have an elastic bottom--the body of the shirt is usually a little more flowy, but the elastic at the bottom gives them a little more shape, and you can adjust it to hit at the most flattering point.

This. I really like the tops that are banded at the bottom, they really help disguise the loose belly flab. Depending on your budget, I have found Eileen Fisher to be really flattering postpartum. I'm also a fan of Nanette Lepore and Ralph Lauren.

I NEVER trust mirrors, I always take a photo of myself before committing to an outfit.

  • NY & Co has dress pants with stretchy elastic and is vanity sized. Target & Meijer have a good selection of casual clothes. Meijer has very cute casual ts that are dressier and hide your tummy.

  • Is vanity sizing a real thing? I've never heard of it, but I don't care much for the size of things, only the fit. I have two pair of J crew dress pants, same style, same cut and they fit quite differently. I haven't done any shopping for myself since O was born, but I'm big on nice staples and trendy accessories. I would recommend going to a high end department store or retail store and having them 'help' with the current styles that look best on your current body. You're sure to find something to buy for their time/assistance, but then take that knowledge/style to less expensive stores if you aren't looking for investment pieces.

  • I usually shop at GAP and Loft.  I have done 2 stitch fixes.  The first was awesome and I kept everything.  The second one was just okay.

  • I unexpectedly ended up with some time to kill yesterday and ran to TJ Maxx... I found a really nice fitting pair of black dress pants from The Limited. I'm hoping it wasn't a fluke and their sizes still run the same. Their pants NEVER used to fit me so I hadn't even tried. Im gonna give them a shot.

  • I need some new clothes too but seeing as I only have probably 3-4 months until I'm I'm mat clothes again I figured there is no point in getting too crazy.

  • I buy stuff from the Loft a lot because of their prices. The quality isn't great. If I'm looking for quality, I'll buy stuff from Boden. They have pretty  good sales too. I find that J Jill has some tops that are flowy so they hide the muffin top well, but I look a little frumpy. It's a trade off, I guess. Ugh....I need a tummy tuck
  • So can someone splain me vanity sizing?  I'm typically not one to pay attention to the number if it fits well, but this sounds depressing.

In the past, I have been a Loft shopper, but I have gone several times recently and been very disappointed.

  • I found Banana Republic and Ann Taylor both have some great more tunic style blouses in bright colors for spring. They always seem to have a 40%-50% off day once a week. I also have been buying my tops in size Tall if possible (usually online) I'm 5'7 which isn't that tall but the little extra length in like a size M or L looks much better than buying up to a L or XL which then looks sloppy. I attack our Gap outlet for their Gap body tanks and tops for around the house or to layer
  • Only tops I swear and only for work!
  • Nope the tall pants are all yours. I'm very fully average there!
  • I have good luck with Coldwater Creek.
