TTC after 35

Trying again? Need opinions, please.

I'm not quite 35, but I will be soon. I had my first last baby last October. He will be 6 months a month from now. I'm currently on birth control but I'm not sure I want to be. It took clomid and trigger shots to get me pregnant the first time (only did that twice). I eventually want another baby but I'm afraid if I wait and then it's not happening it will be to late. I have pcos and therefore it is harder for me to get pregnant anyway. Should I just forget birth control and just see what happens? I know your body needs time to heal from the first pregnancy. I have a Drs. appointment in April and will ask my doctor then, but I'm just interested in what other moms have experienced.

  • welcome to the board-  I have no advice for you but I am sure some of the ladies on here can chime in with their opinions/advice.  You might also ask over on the secondary IF board.  Many ladies over there have experience with PCOS.

    good luck!

  • I think following the advice of your doctor is a good idea but when asking be sure to bring up all your concerns because they are valid! Mine said wait 12 months, we waited 10 but I'm still not pregnant. Every body is different. Good luck!
  • I have no idea, but I'd guess you'll get different answers if you asked on a pregnancy board rather than a TTC board. You could ask your doctor next month if there is likely any difference in pregnancy success rate if you wait an extra couple of months in order to get to the >18 month spacing that doctors say is healthiest. Good luck!
  • Since my situation is different (over 35 but no KNOWN issues) I have no advice. I wanted to welcome you to the board and just chime in with seeing what your Dr. says.

  • My dr said at least a year anything sooner can cause 2nd baby to be low birth weight and or premature. I had my son at 34 weeks and even though I was 39 I still waited a yr to start trying...good luck...

  • My nurse practitioner suggested waiting 18 months from the birth to get pregnant in order to let the body get back into its old form, but I imagine that it would depend on how well your body dealt with your first pregnancy. Are you breastfeeding? I am BFing and I don't think that I have ovulated yet at 13 months.

  • My doctor gave me the OK at six months, because she said it might take a while.  I don't have any known issues other than a history of irregular periods, but I had DD at 39, so I wanted to get going without too much delay.  I can definitely see a lot of positives to waiting, though; it all depends on your body and your situation.  Good luck!

  • I saw my obgyn 7 months after we had our daughter last June and she gave me the green light to start trying again. That being said I had lost all my baby weight and then some, my blood pressure was good and my physical exam was good. I hope all goes well at your doctor visit and you get cleared. I didn't get on birth control after we had our DD either and I breastfed until she was almost 6 months old.
