15 weeks---is that baby or bagel in there?

I'm 15 weeks today and just feeling fat and gross. I don't look pregnant yet, I just look like I've really let myself go. I had a bit of a lower belly pre getting pregnant, so now I really can't tell if what I have a is a pregnancy bump or a food bump. In addition, I've gained weight in the tummy area above my belly button (an area that used to be mostly flat) So now I have a lovely roll above my belly button, then my stomach goes in and then a lovely tummy below. I look terrible and misshaped! Because I'm crazy, I tried looking online to see if I can find any pictures other women have posted where they look like this, but cannot :( Anyone else take on this lovely shape? When will it even out so I just have one bump instead of 2?

  • Yup this is me. It will all merge into one bump. Unfortunately I am not cute pregnant. I just sort of look huge all of a sudden.

  • I do have a pair of maternity jeans, but they don't help. They aren't the ones with the full panel, just a small elasticy waist band. Super comfy (I may never go back to regular jeans again! lol) but don't do anything to even out my belly.
  • Girl I am with you! I haven't really gained weight anywhere else--should be thankful for that I suppose, for now at least---but yea, I just look like I've got serious rolls going on in the middle region :(
  • Ya the full panel is what smooths it out.

  • I'm totally with you.  Even at a size 8 I always had a belly below the belly button and then it pokes out again above the belly button...so annoying.  I thought it would smooth out with the bump but it always kind of looked like that.  The good thing is, when you get the baby bump that is all people see.  Everyone commented that I just had a bump and didn't look like I gained any weight.  That wasn't the case but the bump is a beautiful disguise.  I bought some mama spanx yesterday to see if that might help keep everyting else in place while not putting pressure on my stomach which I can't stand now.  Even though I always had a bit of that indent where my belly button was, as I got bigger you couldn't tell even when I had tight tops on.  It will look great...this is just the rough patch :-)
  • This happens to me with my non-maternity workout pants.  I looked terrible at the gym yesterday with my many bumps.  I look a million times better (and actually pregnant) in full panel maternity pants.  I even fold the panel down halfway, so it's still over my belly button and not cutting me in half under my belly button.  This has helped a lot.  Try to find pants that don't have a band that cuts through your bump/blump and that should help.

  • I feel a little better knowing that I'm not alone out there! My friend told me its just a "fat" phase and everyone feels it. however, this friend didn't have the belly roll on top of her bump, sooo I take her words on this lightly LOL

Hmm, mama spanx. Maybe I'll look into that. I definitely need something to smooth out my lumpy situation!
  • Definitely try the full-panel pants. That made a huge difference for me. But I've actually noticed a change in the last week where the two bumps are melding together to make one big bump. I can feel that my uterus is right below my belly button now, so as it keeps inching up each week, I think it will be even less noticible that I have two bumps.

  • I definitely have the roll going on above my belly button, it's like all of my fat got pushed up there.  Too bad it didn't take away the little side rolls yet!  I have yet to take a bump picture because I feel like I just look strangely fat instead of actually pregnant.  I'm even still down 2 pounds from my BFP date, thanks to m/s.

Seriously. this quote thing is not working at all for some reason... So the "roll above your belly button" (or around it)- I was told by my doc that it's my intestines being pushed up by my uterus. It's not fat. I had a flat stomach before and this roll showed up about 2 weeks ago (13 weeks or so). it's definitely not baby bump and it's not cute at all. I'm just wearing clothing that conceals until my bump actually joins with that roll.
  • I'm with you! I have a roll under my belly button and I keep trying to feel for my uterus but can't feel anything through the fat. Eventually both bumps will merge but for now I wear loose flowing tops that only hug the top bump. (Which is getting really hard, what's that about?)

Totally there. My doc told me this is exactly what would happen though, so I guess at least she gave me a heads up. She said that I'll just feel "fat" for me until sometime between 16 & 20 weeks and then at 20 weeks it'll be undeniable and I'll realize it was all just the bump forming the whole time.
This makes me feel so much better, because this is exactly where I'm at. Lol
  • Love this post! I have gotten depressed over the same problem! I have a belly above my waistline, something of a "waist" and belly below! I look ridiculous.

It looks like my pants are too tight, but they aren't.

LMFAO, I though it was just me and also thought all my fat got pushed up under my boobs. I don't have anyone to commiserate with since my best friend who has had 2 babies has a crazy tall super model-esque figure..I now have a double fat stomach. Boo

Love that we are all having this problem..I feel less obese and icky now :-)

  • I have the same issue, ladies.  And WTF is with the top bump getting hard?  Oh well.  Guess I'll just chill and wait for week 20.

I noticed the hardness of the top bump last week when I crossed my arms.  I crossed them, looked down, recrossed them, and was like "huh, guess I have a small ledge already".

I am petite and had a flat stomach before pregnancy, but I have noticed that I definitely am thicker around my rib cage/ upper abdomen too, in addition to my little bump below. I did read that this is not fat, but a result of everything moving around in there as the baby grows, if that makes you feel better. I will agree with PPs that a full panel pant really helps it look smoother. My pre-pregnancy yoga pants still fit but look horrible in the stomach area.

  • Right there with ya. I actually just posted this a.m. about my lack of pregnancy belly. I just ate lunch and look like I'm 5 months pregnant, but when I'm not full, all I seem to have is a roll of fat above my belly button. It's frustrating because at this point with DS I was obviously pregnant and was actually heavier when I got pregnant with him than I was/am with this baby. Ugh.

  • You are preaching to the choir here! Can't wait for my 2 rolls to merge into a baby belly!
  • I'm sorry! I've gained weight in my face. So now I just look fat AND like I'm chipmunking food away for later.

  • I feel the exact same. Pre pregnancy had a pooch already and I'm 15 weeks and just look like I've been packing on a little extra winter weight. Can't wait to look pregnant!!!
  • I'm glad you are all feeling the same, but I'm glad I'm not alone here! Today I have on full panel dress pants from Motherhood Maternity and a tank top from Old Navy. While the pants are super comfy (like wearing sweatpants!) I still very obviously have my "B" belly :( I'm just going to try and stay positive that in the upcoming weeks I'll fill out around my waistline/bellybutton area as well so at least I look preggers and not just like a chunky monkey!
  • 18W and the B Belly is still going strong :( Any updates on whether or not anyone else's b belly has started to round out? Its getting very sad and frustrating hoping that I'll wake up one day and not feel terrible about the way I look. I still don't look pregnant. Just look like I have a big fat belly. Even with full panel pants AND a belly band.
