Short version:
Eli Lucas made his grand entrance at 10:31pm on March 1st, weighing in at 9lbs 1oz and 21 inches long!
Long version:
At 3:30pm I went to go pee and as I wiped there was a small gush that I knew definitely wasn't pee. I wiped again and there was more and when I stood up the trickle continued. I called my ob, we dropped DS off at my parents and headed to the hospital.
We got to the hospital about 4:30 and I wasn't really having any contractions, just an occasional one here and there. I was checked and at a 6. By 7pm I was at an 8 and contractions were so strong with hardly any break in between I asked for an epidural. I ended up with basically a spinal (not continuous meds) because I was moving so quickly that an actual epidural wasn't necessary.
I stalled at an 8 for about an hour after the spinal and pitocin was started to increase my contraction intensity to get me to 10 and there was some concern because my bleeding had increased indicating there could be placental issues.
After they started the pitocin I was quickly progressing again and hit 10 in no time. I started pushing with each contraction and was getting feeling back which I was happy about. Then Eli's heart rate started to drop to almost 70 after each contraction where I pushed. This indicated the placenta was not providing him with the oxygen he needed to recover from the pushing. After a few attempts to speed up his delivery his heart rate started to stay in the 70 range and not get back up to baseline.
It was then decided that a c-section would be the best option for everyone involved. I was prepped and given another spinal as my previous one had worn off.
Eli came out screaming and peeing! And pooped 4 times in the OR as he was being cleaned up and weighed. I had the shakes so bad it was not safe to have him on me immediately. We also learned that his head was on the larger side but nothing to be worried about, but his shoulders/chest was just shy of 15 inches in circumference and he would have had shoulder dystocia and most likely gotten stuck.
Both Eli and I are doing great and so far he has latched like a champ.
I am so in love with my rolly poly monkey. My rainbow.
