  • Bring the car seat and try to keep him awake at the airport and have him take his nap on the flight. As soon as we get on a plane my daughter falls right asleep, the white noise sounds are fantastic. I also bring the Ipad to let her watch a movie or play a game. Last flight I bought a few new toys from the dollar section at target so she would have something new to play with.

  • Im downloading Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on my ipad. I had a girlfriend tell me to give them a bottle or something to drink during take off to help with their ears popping. Im hoping he sleeps since its an early flight!!
  • Back pack that is small enough for them to wear. Put fun snacks and go to dollar section of target and get fun disposable toys to pull out every 20 minutes or so. Don't worry about the age recommendation on these toys you'll be right there and the forbiddiness of them will make them more fun.
These are two things that we got when dd was 20 months that we still bring on plane trips https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00006JBKT?cache=4785dabd41bfef9b6e0894d040d8ee6d#ref=mp_s_a_1_1&qid=1393776001&sr=8-1

Hey I just met you, and you're my baby. This is your family, we're kind of crazy...Lilypie Kids Birthday tickersLilypie - (tl9S)Lilypie - (zrx8)imageimageimage

  • @luvin20bball yes on the something to suck while taking off and landing. Drinking from a sippy cup or sucking on a pacifier are fine. If he is asleep for take off that is ok landing is more when it is more important for the pressure to equalized.

  • Bring lots of new snacks--we brought annie's cheddar bunnies, teddy grahams, plum organics fiddlesticks...they helped a lot! ALso, new books with lots of flaps are great. We bought a pair of toddler headphones and he listened to his favorite music on DH's phone for like 2 hours (napped for 1 of them!).

  • @RVASC811 we got these: https://www.amazon.com/Kidz-Gear-Wired-Headphones-Kids/dp/B00AXE9B6M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1393782156&sr=8-4&keywords=toddler+headphone

I was worried they'd be too big (LO has always been about 45th% for head circumference) but they fit fine!

we used these on the flight with DD, they worked great! We started using them before the flight though, to get her used to them.  lots of snacks.  stickers or tape, DD loves stickers- putting them on and taking them off.  Also it was the only time she's ever gotten juice (we left her mil in the stroller when we gate checked the bag d'oh).
  • Let him run around the Airport as much as you can.

Good point. The best is get an inflatable beach ball. Blow it up for airport and hotel fun and deflate for planes. You will usually get a couple kid friends to play with you while waiting as well. There parents will be happy too.

  • @navyandviolet great idea with the beach ball. Last time we flew another kid had a little key chain that she would throw and Emma and another kid would go fetch it it was hilarious and tired them all out before the flight! Also kept them all busy since we were delayed 3 hours.

  • Thank you for the tips!! We will definitely be using them!!!
  • We just got back from Florida (2 1/2 hour flight), I agree with the car seat, DS fell asleep as we were taxiing on the runway and woke up about 30 minutes before we landed.  He had a terrible time on the decent, so his pacifier came in handy.  We just made sure to bring new snacks, a new toy and a Nook with headphones.

Everyone was very helpful on the plane, the attendants did everything they could to help DS on the decent, brought him wings, gummy fruits and pretzels. none worked but overall it was a good flight.

If you can manage the car seat and a blanket saved us, he was comfortable and slept great!

    Good luck!

  • I am definitely going to use some of these ideas in April. Six hour flight!
