Pet owners help!

Not to be a AW, but I'm at my wits end and about to explode.  My dog got her... period... and is spotting all over everything.  Ive tried diapers (both doggie and baby) and they just fall off.  My DH even made some weird concoction out of old tshirts and hair ties he was calling a doggie-thong, that does nothing.  She has ruined our brand new bedsheets we just got from our wedding (any tips on getting blood out of sheets?) and Im worried this is going to go on for weeks.  I cant lock her in a room or outside, she'd go nuts because she has to be near us all the time (spoiled rotten) Anyone have any experience with something like this??!!

  • Do you have a crate? Also, oxy clean is good for stains
  • Okay, how big of a dog, ditto oxy clean and the crate

  • She's little, (pug mix) thats the problem with keeping the diapers on.  I called the doc about getting her spayed and cant till she's finished, 2-3 weeks.  Belly band or headband might work (thanks for the idea)  Sorry... I know this is gross.

Use a onesie with a tail hole cut in it-- over the diaper if needed

  • No problem. My girlfriend uses them on her male bischon who has cushings disease (he chews his skin all day) so I can't take credit lol

  • My puggle had that happen once. We used regular diapers (cut a tail hole) and a cut up pair of spanx to keep them on. She was a hot mess.

  • Hydrogen peroxide for the stains. Doggie bloomers over the diapers for the bleeding. Good luck!
Thanks! Im going to give the onsies a shot but if that doesn't work where do you buy doggie bloomers? Amazon? Ive looked at Target and PetsMart.

And Ill def try the hydrogen peroxide on the sheets.  They are white and I've use oxiclean to get out stains on my DHs white uniform to no avail, but was going to look for a concentrated stick or something...

Try soaking in hot water mixed with half a scoop of oxyclean over night, then wash with hot water and one scoop oxyclean (has to be added to the water in the machine before you add clothes). This works for me to get baby poop out and small amounts of blood.

  • I don't know if it's the same with dog menstrual blood, but if I ever stain my own undies I quick rinse in COLD water before it dries always does the trick.

I'm sorry we had this happen literally 2 days before our girls spaying appointment which made them push it out 2 weeks after she was "done" umm yea that was 2 weeks alone on her puppy period.

We used simple solution dog diapers (from amazon) and they worked great. We have a small dog (full grown 12 pounds)

You can also try boys underwear flipped around so her tail goes through the hole. And get her spayed when she's no longer in heat :)
This, and peroxide will get the blood out.  Good luck.

  • Perixide gets blood out.
Usually breeders will use doggy diapers.

Should get her spayed. Can have major health issues if you don't. Pyrometria ( infection, pus in the uterus emergency spay is needed, and mammary tumors later on. Have seen it. Very bad.

She will go into heat every 6 months if not spayed.

Oh good. Sorry did not see this before I posted. Yes they want to wait til she is out of heat so all the blood vessels ect is not so swollen. Harder spay when they are in heat.

    Good luck.

  • Be careful with her outside, at the dog park, even in the backyard. My sister is in the veterinary field and says male dogs will literally dig under fences, gates, etc. to get to a female in heat. Good luck! And definitely get her spayed as soon as possible!

  • I'm another vote for peroxide. It works best if its still wet, but will still get most of the stain out if dried.
  • peroxide is all we used at the animal hospital when we got blood on our clothes

  • I've used a child's pair of underwear with a pad inside and that seemed to work great.
