Infant swim?

Anyone sign up for infant swim classes? My gym offers them but I'm not sure I want to.

  • I took my big one when he was 6mo. It was more for me to socialize and do an activity together than he got anything out of it. And it was fun and I did meet other moms.

We just used a sposie swim diaper and folded it down.

  • I don't do the lessons since at this age it's pretty much just bobbing in the water with them. H and I do go to the public swim with her every so often and talk while bobbing around in the pool. She LOVES it.

We use a disposable swim diaper with a water proof diaper cover that the pool supplies. We also use a swimming suit because, let's face it, babies in swimming suits are freaking adorable.

  • We've been going swimming since getting the OK from her ped at her four-month appointment. She loves it. I usually take her to a midday open swim at our gym on one of the weekdays I don't work, so it's generally just us and maybe one or two other sets of parents and small children. We have a couple of Charlie Banana swim diapers. We don't usually stay in too long since I think it's not quite warm enough for her to swim for a long time -- probably about 20 minutes or so. It is so much fun for both of us. It usually takes her a minute or two to remember that she likes it, but once she does she relaxes and splashes. Last time she started learning how to hold on to a pool noodle. It's seriously the highlight of my week.

Yeah. I gushed a little there. Sorry.

  • Not sure about classes but the local pool has a children's splash-and-spray area that we will be taking LO to on Saturday.

This exactly for me as well. DS1 wasn't a fan of swimming back then. I may take D S2 to classes next year when big guy is in preschool.

I met one of my best mom pals in a mommy and me swim class 2 years ago. :)
     DS1 8/2011. DS2 8/2013.

  • We signed Emma up. She starts next sat. I'm so excited. We went to an open swim a couple weeks ago and she loved it.

We're on our third class but we also do open swim- I hold her as I walk the lazy river so I get some exercise too. She loves the water as long as she doesn't get water in her mouth. We just use a cloth diaper without the liner.

we've been going since Lexi was 10 weeks.  We started in splish splash class and just graduated to swim babies and have started dunking.  It is amazing to see the older kids diving down for toys and swimming underwater.

and by older, I mean like 18-24months.

splish splash was 2-6 months, swimbabies is 6-36mo, so same as yours.  It's a little weird being with such older kids, but I also like that she can watch them and learn.

  • we love it and have been doing since 10 weeks too... LO loves it now even tho he cried the entire half hour the first time, i even debated going the second time but he didnt cry at all the second time, usually the pool you end up going to has diaper prefrences, some like disposable others resuable and others both
  • We're going to definitely put DS in swimming classes (I need to okay it was his pedi at his 6 mo visit). He loves the water/bath time too much for us not to put him in lessons!

do you have a special circumstance that you need Dr.'s approval?  I didn't consult mine about it at all.

I think it's worth it! It's great experience for them and a wonderful parent baby bonding activity. We have a reusable iPlay swim diaper that I got at Target.

Late to the party but we've been going since 8 weeks and he loves it! We use regular swim diapers and trunks.

I would definitely recommend it. Right now they aren't learning to 'swim' but they're learning to be comfortable in the water.

  • We started at 4.5 months. It's just a fun activity to do. It's not so much about learning any type of skill. We use huggies swim diapers. Putting on a swim suit every week does remind me to keep cake out of my mouth - so that alone makes it worthwhile.
