How often? What products? Where? How long? Who does it? Does baby like it?

Re: Let's talk baths

  • Every 2-3 days. LOVES it. The key is, I think, making it nice and warm.

The nurse who bathed him in the hospital gave us that tip and it really does seem true. A lot of those baby thermometers tell you to make it lukewarm which is too cold and unpleasant for baby.

We put the baby bath seat right into our tub and fill it up so his legs are covered. Then an adult wash cloth over his whole body that we keep pouring water on to keep him warm. He is so calm and happy the entire time. We use Mustela baby wash as needed, or just water, then Cerave lotion after.

  • My Ped recommended no more than twice a week and DS doesn't love bathtime so that's what we stick to. I was gifted aveeno & burt's bees bath products and like both so I alternate. We usually tag team: I will bathe DS and then hang out while H bathes DD. She loves it so we let her splash around for a while, whereas with DS, I try to get him clean & dry pretty quickly.

  • How often? Every 2-3 days (DD is one month old today)

What products? We have some J&J and some Aveeno. So far she hasn't shown any sensitivities to anything, which is nice.

Where? I have been sitting in the tub and holding her. She likes that better than being in a tub by herself, or in the bath seat thing put in the big tub.

How long? Usually just long enough to get clean.

    Who does it? All me

Does baby like it? She doesn't seem to mind the bath itself, but she's not a fan of getting out and getting towelled off. She doesn't much like getting her clothes changed either so this isn't surprising. I try to keep part of her covered while I dry off and put lotion on other parts but she still isn't really a fan.

  • I love all things burts bees but didn't get gifted any..... Is the baby stuff scented??

  • We do bath night every 3-4 nights, with a wipe down with baby wipes and lotion up nightly where needed. (she spits up a lot). We use Johnson and Johnson products only so far since they were gifts and use her baby bath tub on the bathroom counter, it's a double counter with only one sink. Our baths aren't long, just enough to wash her body and hair thoroughly and rinse.

SO and I both do it together and have our own "jobs" (I wash hair, he does body. I take her to dry off, lotion, and get dressed, and he cleans up the mess) We enjoy doing it together and she loves it so it makes it that much better.
  • We love the Johnson and Johnson nighttime bath. It smells so good.

I just opened some shampoo that was gifted to us called Baby Magic and it smells like dog shampoo. It's awful.
  • I also got a buttload of baby magic... and I hate it.

  • I bathe every night because of spit up, peeing in his own face, etc. I normally do it because DH is afraid he will drop him in the tub (I told him it's time to get over it). I only use soap (J&J) every other day. He gets lotion afterwards each time though (also J&J). DS really loves being in the water. I have the summer infant seat for the bath tub and the bloomin bath for sink. I use whichever I'm closest to when it's time, because I friggin' hate the stairs. :)

  • We do it probably 3 times a week in a little bath tub we fill up all the way, inside our big bath tub. As long as it's pretty warm, DD loves it! She chills in there for a good 20 minutes, just relaxing. We use Earths Best Lavender Soothing Wash and it smells so good! It takes both DH and I to do it.

  • @mindybadger1 omfg those bath toys!!!!!! How did I not know they existed????? DS turns 5 next month and will love them!

  • We bathe every three days. She is pretty happy during but gets cold during changing so screams her head off. We do it in a small infant tub with a hammock. Use Johnson head to toe and then nighttime lotion after. I don't know if it's a load of crap but the nights we do the Johnson and Johnson night time lotion she gets in a deeper sleep faster.

  • I do a pretty warm bath in baby tub each night. We have it set up on bathroom counter and she likes to sit there and look around. She loves the water. I use J&J (shower gifts) soap every other day and lotion daily. I would bathe with her as I love baths myself but I can only stand scorching hot water.

  • DD gets a bath every two to three days. I clean her neck daily with a wet washcloth or baby wipe though.

I usually bathe her but DH brings her to me. Our bathroom is kind of small so it's not comfortable for both of us to be in there.  We have the 4 Moms tub that we just put in the bathtub.

We use California Baby and some J&J products. I also use Mustela shampoo every other bath for her cradle cap.

She seems pretty calm in the bath but doesn't really smile about it. She gets old man face instead.
    imageimageimage
  • We have to shower him because he hates baths. We both take turns and he gets a shower once or twice a week. In between he gets spot cleaned with a warm wash cloth. We use Burt's bees or Aveeno creamy wash.

    What products? J & J
Where? In a baby tub in the big bath tub.
How long? 5-10 min at most
Who does it? I give baths. That will probably change once I go back to work in just over a week.
Does baby like it? Most times. But she screams when I take her out.

  • Biggest waste of money so far: blooming bath. Tried it once, epic fail. Maybe when he's bigger.

I bathe LO every 2-3 days, in a full tub (DH says I waste water), with me in it. Sometimes I keep a bra on. DH won't do it, but he'll "help" by bringing him to me and catching him in a towel and drying him off. Baby LOVES baths. I float him just supporting his head and he'll be content for like 20-30 minutes kicking around. I use a baby-shaped sponge to hold him in my lap sometimes, other times just hold him.

We use J&J shampoo and head to toe. I like J&J lotion scent, but LO's skin prefers aveeno.

And Amazon shopping porn of products I love:
imageturtle meter-- perfect temp every time. ;)

imagethese  bitchin' star wars bath toys my stepmom bought for $30.... Of course haven't been used yet. Can't wait though, can't wait. ;)

I really wanted to get the Blooming Bath....what don't you like about it/what doesn't work right?

Of course I'm going on amazon right now for the turtle thermometer! I think LO gates bath time because I keep it too cold.

  • How often? Every three days What products? Wash with Cetaphil and shampoo with Burt's Bees Where? Whale tub placed in the big tub How long? 5 minutes Who does it? Usually me while DH bathes DS1 in the tub Does baby like it? Yes, or at least I think so
  • Every other to every two days

I use California baby products. I recently bought mustela baby shampoo because lo has cradle cap, seems to help.

We put the baby bath tub in the kitchen sink. It's very convenient and doesn't hurt our backs. I bathe abd dh assists. Its a team effort. Lol

Dd seems to like it, most of the time. After we wash her body I wrap her up in a towel and wash her hair under the faucet. She LOVES it! I massage her scalp as I do it and her face it priceless.

  • @mrsw062610
It was awkward to hold him in. I think it will be great when he can sit on his own.... it Might even be better now that he has head control, I need to try.

And its too big for my bath sink, so I have to take everything downstairs to the kitchen which is a hassle

  • Dd gets a bath every night- she loves it and she's constantly getting soaked with 'booby juice' as DH calls it. We're using the J&J we were gifted and that seems to be working well.

Her baths are usually about fifteen to twenty minutes long. Either hubsters or I bathe with her; it's just more relaxing for all of us to have her play in the tub rather than stand by the sink. The only part she doesn't like is right when we take get out of the water before she gets wrapped up in a towel.

  • We have a bath every night. It begins our nightly routine which has made a huge difference in how our nights go. We have a baby tub set up on bathroom counter, perfect height for me. LO loves baths and I agree with @ababymaybe that it makes a huge difference if the water is warm enough for their comfort. DH gave LO his first couple baths and he hates them, I checked the water and it was luke warm. I made his next few baths a little warmer and didn't fuss once, not even when we got out! We used J&J Baby Bedtime Wash (purple bottle) from head to toe, and the matching lotion following our bath. If I have to bath him during the day I use J&J vanilla oatmeal wash. I only wash his hair every 2-3 days, other days just rinse with water. I got a homemade towel wrap for my shower that lady made me and it is the bed thing ever. It has a strap to wear like an apron and you wear the towel side out to wrap baby up when your done. Keeps me dry and the towel at reach. If I could sew I would make them for everyone who has a baby!!

over priced, but awesome. One of my favorite gifts, even if I have to wait years to use them.

  • @mindybadger1 you are awesome! Thank you for the link! His birthday is in a few weeks and it would be awesome!!
  • 2x a week.
We use Burt's bees shampoo & wash. Smells so yummy, and doesn't dry out his skin. Use the Burt's bees lavender baby lotion after bath
We have a baby bath tub that fits in our tub. He LOVES bath time! He gets so mad when we take him out. :) usually about 10 minutes in the bath.
DH and I switch who does it each time. There isn't enough room in our bathroom for both of us to be in there together. :(

  • Usually twice a week, with Johnson&Johnson or generic baby wash. I usually hop in with him or DH does, and the other stays to help get baby out of the tub. He doesn't really react except for a shocked face.

  • Every 3 days using J&J products we got as gifts. Usually DH does it while I shower. I get everything out for after. I then feed and read to him. I did it last night because DH fell asleep!
  • We bathe DS every 2-3 days with his sister. DD won't get in unless she knows baby is coming too :)

We use a bath seat. DD gets in first, then we put LO in the seat (think bouncy seat without the bounce), and put a wash cloth over his body. DD uses her watering can to sprinkle water over him to keep him warm (it's really cute). DH bathes him, passes him to me, and then bathes DD while I put LO to bed. Bath time is the best!
  • What do you guys do about poop and pee if you take them in the bath with you? My kid does one or the other or both every single time.
  • Pee = water to me. I'm so used to getting sprayed it doesnt phase me. LO has only pooped in the tub once, really small, and on the baby shaped body sponge so I just moved it away. Guess if it was big and in the water bath time would be cut short or I'd redraw the water.

  • How often? Once a week
What products? J&j baby wash Where? Baby tub in kitchen
    How long? Short as possible
    Who does it? Me
    Does baby like it? Yes
  • What do you guys do about poop and pee if you take them in the bath with you? My kid does one or the other or both every single time.
That would be tough. DD peed in the water once but I think it was a fluke - we ended up just getting out and I rinsed us off. She also peed all over DH once after he undressed her and was going to hand her to me in the bath. If she made a habit of peeing or pooping in the bath every time, I would probably just not bathe with her and do some tummy time or something outside of the bath to get skin to skin.

  • How often? Every few days

What products? We use Aveeno. Seems to work, no skin reactions so far, and it smells yummy.

Where? We've used a baby tub with an infant hammock or the blooming bath inside. So far I'm not loving either option; he just doesn't seem overly comfortable.

How long? Pretty quick. LO seems cold. I think I need to invest in that thermometer!

Who does it? Tag team, quick and dirty. (haha - not so dirty after)

Does baby like it? Eh. He gets really quiet and stares at us like we're nuts. He does seem to love his super-soft bear towel after. I rub him down and smother kisses on his neck. I probably like it a lot more than he does. ;)

  • DD gets a bath twice a week [every 3-4 days]. We use J&J Head to Toe [we have pre-soaped washcloths we use] and Aveeno lotion. She isn't a fan of the bath, so she's in and out as quickly as possible. I'm using a bath tub we had with DS for now [I fill it in my bath tub and bathe her that way], but I don't really like it - the infant seat is crap. I'm buying a new tub this weekend.

  • DS gets a bath twice a week, in a half full tub with me or FI. He really enjoys it, as long as the water is warm enough. We made the same mistake with the wrong temp in the beginning and he hated it, but now he likes to kick and float. We use burts bees or J&J, whichever I grab.

@Peanutmuse neither of us is fazed by the pee, it's usually such a small amount. And we try to do the bath after a poopy diaper to avoid it in the tub. It's worked so far, but if he did I think we would rinse off and start over.

  • My MIL gives DD a bath every morning with her whale tub. I can do it, but I'm exhausted by 9:00 so I pass her off to MIL and she happily does it. DD loves taking a bath (her name means delicate water..so yeah haha) Her bath water we soak a tea bag and squeeze calamansi in it to give DD smooth skin. We are using J&J from the baby shower and after that we are switching to organic soap.

@sarahmarie2 and @mindybadger1 -- my kid must poop differently than yours because when he has done it in the tub, it immediately goes everywhere. And a poopy diaper doesn't mean that he won't poop again 5 minutes later. Even if we waited a decent amount of time to make sure he's done. He poops a LOT. He is very well hydrated and his stools are very loose. It would literally turn the water yellow and be all over the place. We have to rinse and refill his entire tub. I have been thinking about getting some swim diapers to try it out though.
  • @peanutmuse my kid is a pooper.
This Has happened a few times. Each time was right as we started. We took her out dumped and rinsed out the tub and started over without a problem. If she doesn't poop in the tub, its normally in the towel when we dry her off. I can never win! ;)
