I get annoyed when people have no qualms about eating chickens, cows, or pigs, but they say they could never eat a horse, cat, or dog (or many other species) because they're cute or because that would be mean/cruel. If you don't care for puffin or deer because of the taste or texture, fine.. but don't argue that you can't eat X because it is too cute or because you can't handle the thought of cruelty toward dogs, cats, etc.
I totally understand you. It reminded of my SIL. She does not eat beef but totally eats chicken and she says she can eat chicken because they are smaller animals!?! WTF!
UO (according to my ILs). No, I don't plan on giving LO baby Benadryl just so I can get some sleep.
UO. I don't understand not wanting to name your child something "popular" or "trendy". A friend of mine was discussing names. She told me some names she liked but couldn't use because it's "trendy". Really? If you like it, what does it matter?
As one of 10 girls that share my name in my graduating class of 80, I tried to avoid trendy names and absolutely understand the reasoning behind doing so.
I am totally on the opposite side of this. I have a unique name and all I ever wanted growing up was to be "Jennifer" or "Kristie" or whatever "normal" names all the other girls had.
But I didn't go with trendy names for my boys. I went with classic names. I was trying to think about how their name would look on a resume or how it would sound to be Mr. John Smith, CEO.
I don't understand why anyone would spend $200+ on a purebred dog or cat when there are animals dying in shelters.
I don't understand going through a breeder either.
My two boys (yes they are my kiddos) were both adopted through a rescue, no kill shelter and there was a $325 adoption fee associated. This was because they had their shots up to date.
Ha, have you heard the Jim Gaffigan joke about this? He says something like, "I think even the dogs are like, 'Geez Sarah, that's a little heavy handed, don't you think? We're just dogs!'"
I choose to eat meat because it does taste good and I think it's an important part of my diet.
The slaughter houses have made tremendous strides lately to ensure the end-of-life process is as humane and stress-free as possible and continue to change their processes for the better.
Wild animal populations, like deer for example, need to be kept under control or there will direct consequences to humans. Ever hit a deer going 75 mph on the interstate? You'd be lucky to live through that. Diseases will also spread like wildfire when overpopulation occurs. If states didn't have hunting seasons and tags, snipers will be sent out to shoot the animals and leave them where they fall. Nearly every person I know that hunts, uses the meat to feed their family or donates it to homeless shelters.
I choose my meat from local farmers and friends, directly supplementing their income and supporting their families. There are ways to be responsible about consumption, regardless of your desire to consume animals.
Hunting and raising livestock are two very, very different things.
I would like to see even 10% of people who eat meat have the balls/stomach to go out and hunt their own food. Most people just want to buy a nice little package from the grocery store and never think about where it came from. I have a lot of respect for people who hunt their own food, even though I would never do it. Sport hunters can fuck off, though.
Also, there is a big difference between small, local, organic farms and large-scale factory farms which is where most people get the meat they consume. Factory farms are producing a product that isn't good for animals or humans. You don't have to look much further than the issue of antibiotic resistant diseases to see the negative impact.
I am obviously not much of a pet person. I think it stems from a traumatizing experience that I had with 2 cats that I loved when I was 8 or 9 years old.I
If people really love their pets like family, then that's cool. I just can't develop those feelings for an animal, even if I try. So I just don't understand it.

I think it is fantastic to be able to hunt and feed your family for those who want to do that. But those animals have great lives until they are killed. There is also laws protecting the young ones. They get their mothers and their mothers milk. They get to grow up in a natural environment not locked up in a stall. Comparing hunting to animals being raised to send to a slaughter house is really not the same thing.
I personally wouldn't be able to shoot a deer or any other animal so I don't want someone to do it for me just for my taste preferences.
ETA: I think that is super wonderful you seek out local meat. They are usually treated much better and have better lives. The farmers are usually more connected with the animals as well.
I think Madonna is old and should dress more her age like a grandma even Though she's not a grandma- she's still too x to be prancing around like a teenie bobber
I think it's weird when people act like their pets are actual members of their families. I mean, I get that you love you dog, but it is still a dog. Not a human.
I think these feelings are surfacing, because a friend of mine just got a new puppy. She has posted about 50 pictures on FB of him in a week. She is talking about how hard crate training him is and posts stuff like "my dog >>>>> your dog." Annoying.
Edited because I just noticed my greater than sign was a less than sign.
I have a friend that does it with her horses. She has 2 horses and she posts like 10 pictures a day of them just standing there. She talks about them like she gave birth to them. She always says, "they are my whole life" or "without them I am nothing." Sad that your horses are the only thing that bring you joy in your life.
My UO: I hate hashtags. Especially when people use them on Facebook. I can understand Instagram but what is the point of using them on Facebook?
Edit: The horse thing sounded really bitchy. So I apologize.
I don't understand why so many people go nuts with princess stuff and little girls. I've never been into princesses, and when people refer to my daughter as a princess or ask when we're going to get her item X or Y (related to princess stuff), I roll my eyes on the inside.
If LO discovers princess stuff and develops a preference for it, that's fine, but until then, we live in a princess-free home.

When we found out we were having a boy, I was immediately greatful that I wouldn't be gifted a crap ton of pink frilly things. I'm cool with 90% of boy stuff, but all that frilly princess stuff is not for me.
Like you, if I have a girl one day and she's into it on her own accord, that's fine, but I'm not shoving it on her.

I am guilty of this. I didn't want to name him a really popular name. I have a unique name and it sucks because no one could pronounce it but I never grew up with another Shaina. I was really leaning towards naming Alec Aiden because I've always loved that name, but then like 3 girls I knew had a kid named Aiden and I was like um...I'll think of something else.
More of a FFFC but going along with this...a good friend of mine had identical twin girls and named them Emma and Olivia. I love both those names but they are the 2 most popular names so I kind of side eyed her.
Oh another UO: I don't understand giving your child your middle name. All three of my friends gave their daughters their middle names. It doesn't make sense to me.
I gave my daughter my middle name because I had a hard enough time picking her first name. By having a fixed variable it helped me in her name choices.

What do you mean you dont understand them passing on their middle name? Like it doesn't mean as much since it is the second name?
My son is Desmond Lee. He got my dads middle name.
I don't like dogs. :-/ They jump on me and lick me and I just can't...
I don't think people should be able to to sell things on Facebook simply because it irritates me that my feed is full of people selling skinny wraps and fiber lashes.

Not going to lie, I strongly prefer cats to dogs. And I dislike probably 95% of other people's dogs. I hate when a dog licks me, I hate when they chew on themselves, I hate how they smell. I'm excited to get Caleb a dog eventually, because I think it's good for boys to have a dog to run around with (and DH wants one for hiking), but my dog-free life is a happy one right now.

My daughter has my middle name, and I have my mom's. I like the tradition.

This is us. I have my moms middle name and my oldest has mine.
Alexis has my grandmother and my husbands grandmothers names as her middle name
DS has H's middle name, it's also his grandfather's name. I eat meat and have tried many different and unconventional types. My father grew up on a farm and became a chef. He raised me and my sister to respect all the food we eat. He also made us learn how to properly break down an animal and made us try all the parts. I think it was important and made me want to learn to cook because if something died for me to thrive I want to honor it by making it tasty. I was a vegetarian for a few years because of allergies to hormones in chicken and meat. I now try to eat better meats. When LO is older I would like him to have the same experience as me and decide for himself on the whole meat thing.
My UO is there have always been herbivores, carnivorous and omnivorous in the food chain. We can thrive with or without meat, it's a personal decision. I don't get why people feel the need to pressure people to eat or not to eat meat. (Not talking about anyone who posted here, I think it was interesting to see everyone's point of view and reason for being pro meat or pro veggie)
@HBirdie - here is my Pandora bracelet. It has charms for my kids, their initials, and their birthstones.
As far as middle names, Son has husband's middle name, and daughter has my middle name. We even went so far that son's name has the same number of syllables as husbands name, and daughter's name has the same number of syllables as mine AND the names even end the same (son's name ends the same as H, daughters the same as mine). Whatever. We like it.
The only red meat we have in my house is venison. Husband hunts it every year and that's what we eat *unless we have guests who don't like it, then we buy beef. I don't NOT buy the beef for any specific reason, except that we don't need it because we have enough meat to sustain us off the deer and moose hunts (and turkey) that husband gets.
Pets as people drive me bonkers. My aunt sent out wedding invitations to her wedding FROM HER DOG - and then her dog bit my dad at that wedding. My SIL now compares her cat to my kids - as in my kid(s) will do something cute and she will make a comment like "Oh, Twilight rolls over too!" For real.
My UO - I never liked Seinfeld (the show, not just the guy). I never thought it was funny.

I like your bracelet. I got my mom and mil each one for Christmas from DS. They loved it and now DS can get them charms to go on it for holidays for awhile.
Well I guess passing on your middle name is more common than I thought! I just had never heard of people doing it until my friends all did it. My sons middle name is my dad's first name. I didn't mean anything bad by it. I just never knew people did it as much.
