Daycare called while I was out walking the dog to tell me that DS got his hand caught in a door. He's doing okay, but I have to pick him up now and take him to get his hand x-rayed.

I was SO looking forward to having a nice leisurely lunch today. And getting some work done on the rocking horse I've been finishing for him. Boo.

Ok, yeah. I'm concerned about his hand too.
  • We have a doorway jumper. She loves it.

Maybe I'll try it then. We are trying out her Merlin sleep suit tonight. I'm holding a big pink marshmallow baby right now.
The sleep suit is a miracle!! How did it work?

  • I really don't get the microwave thing. I never said there's some conspiracy and microwaves will kill us all and I don't even own one. I said I read some things that made me feel bad when I use one.

We didn't have one for a while... I didn't mind it, but DH begged and begged for one. And now I use it too. Too darn convinent sometimes.

When I didn't have one, I had a George Forman mini-oven thing. I love using it over microwave, but it takes up too much counterspace whereas the microwave is conveniently located over the stove in our house now.

I've been crazy busy lately. Our studio had our first dance competition of the season last weekend. L is on our Demi Dolls team this year. I was so proud of her. She did so well, and her team placed 1st overall.
Bad Mom Moment- after getting her ready I had to warm up and prep my other dances. I didn't even get a picture with her.

@freezorburn I hope his hand is okay! Ouch!!
Thanks ... yeah, we spent a few hours at the ER and finally got his hand x-rayed. They didn't see a fracture, but they also said the scan will be reviewed by a couple more experts in the next few days, in case the techs missed something. In the meantime the hand is swollen and you can see a line across his fingers where the door caught him. Those fingers are going to be tender for a few days. But he's in good spirits and otherwise seems unaffected.
  • I love you @mapleme, but the thought of you smearing things with mold is making me want to vom.

I, on the other hand, am really excited about the smearing of the mold.  Because cheese.  Teach me your ways...
  • Well of course you're going to disagree with me @stoneycakes. It's about food.

If it makes you feel any better, the mold is a fine powder. Kind of looks like powdered cheese. It's rehydrating as we speak though. This mold is the kind that makes muenster orange. The mold that was growing wildly in my wine fridge was "common" blue mold that smelled kind of like musty socks. And it made the cheese furry. DH would call the cheese wheel "a giant Aleve." Once a week I would wash it off and the cheese would look like those clay pots that are fired in an actual fire and are a strange combo of different colors. I'm sure all of this is making you feel much better TJ! But it all tasted really good. Kind of a cross between cheddar and jack. And no cheese growing mold can grow toxins (even if that same mold can grow toxins on other surfaces), so the mold is never bad for you :)@stoneycakes have you ever tried the mozzarella cheese kit from New England Cheese Making? It's an awesome cheese to start with and you have yummy mozzarella in about 45 minutes. Chèvre and ricotta are even easier, but there is something awe inspiring about making a firm cheese from liquid milk.
I want to.  I've been making pizza like a madman.  I should totally make mozzarella!  I want to make cream cheese and sour cream, too.  Now that I can eat dairy again, I really need to investigate this more.

Where do you store your cheese wheels?
  • @Mapleme - is that Ricki Carroll's company? I so want to plan a trip east for the sole purpose of taking her workshop.
