Questions to ask naturopath pediatrician?

Hey ladies,

Not sure if any of you also see a naturopath for primary care, but I do and am having an introductory meeting tomorrow morning with a new naturopath that specializes in pediatric care. I assume many of the questions I'd want to ask a regular pediatrician would be the same for a naturopath, but do you have any input either way on what I should focus on asking tomorrow? This is my first meeting with a medical professional that will oversee my baby's health once he's born. I know either way to trust my gut instinct about this new doc, but any advice on good questions to ask would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

Re: Questions to ask naturopath pediatrician?

  • We see a naturopath also. I had a long list of questions that were similar to what I asked other pediatricians that we interviewed. Off the top of my head:

When do you work? Who will my child see of you aren't in office? What do we do if we have a question after hours?

When will you want to see the baby after it is born?

Where do we go in case of emergency?

What kinds of vaccines do you offer in-office and what kind of schedule do you recommend? Will you honor our request to alter this schedule? (in our case, we were looking for something a little closer to the CDC's recommendations than what this office traditionally recommends.)

Who do we see if we have a problem that is outside your scope of care?

What is your check-up schedule? What sorts of milestones do you look for at each appointment?

Can you prescribe pharmaceuticals if necessary, ie antibiotics?

Do you know how to properly care for an intact penis, ie no retraction for any reason in appointments?

These are just some off the top of my head. It was really important that we find someone who was a good balance between traditional medicine and alternative medicine. I wanted to be able to trust that they would not just give us herbs if DS had a serious problem or infection. I also needed to know that they would transfer us if something was wrong that was outside their scope of care. I have definitely found that with our doctor and have been very happy with our experiences thus far.
