AW. Harper Alexis Lane's Birth Story (PIP)

Harper Alexis Lane, 6lbs 9oz and 19 inches of pure perfection, made her appearance at 2:14 a.m. this morning. She's the most beautiful baby I've ever laid my eyes upon and my greatest accomplishment thus far. We are so in love! Now for the birth story.

I woke up around midnight on the 24 from dreaming about labor to my water breaking. I took a shower and waited for my contractions to get stronger and closer together. We checked into the hospital around 2:00 a.m. when my contractions were around 5 minutes apart.

I was only at a 2 and 40% effaced so they inserted Cervadil, which didn't work. Around noon I started Pitocin and I was given an epidural around 2:00 p.m. (best invention ever). By 5:00 p.m I was at a 6, but my IV was infiltrated and they had to turn off the Pitocin. They couldn't find a good vein so I didn't get a new IV until 7. I didn't progress very quickly and baby was sunny side up so they had me try multiple positions to get cervix to dilate and baby to turn. Finally, at 1:30 a.m this morning, it was time to push. I pushed for around 30 minutes and, after 26 long hours of labor, Harper was born! We did skin to skin for an hour and she nursed right away.

It has been such a whirlwind of emotions. A year ago, I didn't know if I would ever have the chance to be a mom and now I'm staring at this tiny human and my heart is overflowing.
