My MW won't let me go much past 40 weeks as the rates of still birth rise after 40. I think they'll start the stretch and sweep next week at 39 weeks and go from there.

I've never heard that. I feel like if that were true it would be common practice, but it seems most will let you go 41-42 weeks before discussing an induction.

  • I just want to say just because you puked the entire pregnancy doesn't mean you're not a unicorn. With DS I had HG worse than I did with this kid and his pregnancy was perfect. Chinchilla here is trying to kill me.
Fair enough.  Bad example on my part.

I'm jealous. My hospital is super induction happy. Everyone I know gets induced between 38-39 weeks.

I would be totally against this. You aren't even full term until 39 weeks. What's the rush?

Eek! That is terrifying! First time moms who are induced are three times more likely to end up with a c/s than those who go into labor on their own. This is very much against the ACOG policies, assuming you have no medical need to be induced. I know you're not asking for advice here, but this is very scary and if you haven't already, you may want to think about this. It is 100% your decision, not your doctor's!

Sorry to go MIA this weekend. BUT, I don't want to be induced ahead of time. (Before EDD) But a lot of women in my community DO get induced that early. I'm not claiming to know all of their medical histories, but its not uncommon to hear of women being induced, for no other reason than they're "done" being pregnant. It's enough that if I even say the words "I wish this baby would come at 38-39 weeks" my mom JUMPS down my throat "reminding" me of how terrible it is to get induced that early (without medical necessity). Because my Mom knows that Dr's here will induce that early. No Mom, I'm not saying I want to be induced, I'm just saying I'd be okay with my baby heading out a week before she's due! "Naturally!"

  • I haven't talked to my midwife about this yet (I am due late March), but the thought of going another 7 or 8 weeks instead of 5 sounds exhausting! I have no desire to be induced so if it happens it happens... But holy cow... Anyone who manages to go 43 weeks without losing their mind is up for pregnancy sainthood.

My sister's friend from high school (who also has had home births) went past 43 weeks with her third or fourth child...can't remember and still had the baby at home!  I've been to 41 weeks and that was quite enough for me, I can't imagine going that much longer.

  • Our clinic won't let you go more than 10 days past your due date. So 41 weeks and 3 days is the absolute longest that I could be pregnant - woo!

I'm really hoping to go a lot earlier this time as I'm hoping for a VBAC.  My doctor has said that the earlier I labor, the better chances I have of a successful VBAC.  That said, I'd rather have my labor start on its own than get induced early (FWIW, he hasn't talked about inducing early, just said that statistically, VBACs are more successful if they happen earlier rather than later.  We'll see...).
Another VBAC attempter over here...My Dr said she was comfortable with me going to 42 weeks (with BPPs every few days) if things were cool.  As @Natty13umppo (I hope I got that right!) said a VBAC is more likely to be successful if it happens on its own and it is earlier than 40 weeks.  So I've elected to have a repeat section if I go past 41 weeks.  I've also elected to not be induced as that really drops VBAC success rates.  I'm hoping the fact that there is already some cervix action (that I will refrain from discussing on here LOL) at 36 weeks is a good omen!  :)
@kcanuck - fellow VBACer!  That's an interesting thought though to schedule a RCS for past 41 weeks.  I'll have to talk to my OB about that next week...part of me would like to try a VBAC no matter what - even if it's at 42 weeks!  But if the odds are less in my favor by then, I don't know if I want to go thru another 20 hours of labor and still end up with a C/S.  Argh.  Hmmmmmm....

I'd love to hear how your L&D go!  My fingers will be crossed that you can have a VBAC, too.
