clearing out the baby gear question

how old was your kid when you finally cleared out/got rid of some of their big items like:

-swing
-jumparoo/exersaucer
- ergo/carrier
- crib!!!!!

I had no problem getting rid of the swing (it didn't help her calm down), the jumparoo and other toys, and she still actually asks for the ergo sometimes.

but I cannot get around to gettingridof the crib!!

Re: clearing out the baby gear question

  • When my nephew was born which was 4 years after.
  • Loading the player...
  • Our crib converts to a twin bed, so it won't really come up.

Most of the other stuff we gave to friends who had a baby a year later.

  • I put the Jumperoo in consignment last week. The crib converts, so DD sleeps in it. The rest makes me cry to get rid of so I'm waiting a bit more. Tough part is we're moving and it's more stuff to move. Wish it were easier.

  • A friend's sone is two years younger than ds. We gave them all of the big items. The crib is converted to a toddler bed. He should be in it for another year b

DS hated the swing, so that was gone when a friend was expecting, ds was maybe 5 months old. The exersaucer stayed around until he was a little over a year, and even then I just took the toys off and let him keep playing with them. The whole thing got put into the donate pile when he was 2.

Our crib also converts, so that's with him for life, lol. Clothes I donate as he grows out of them -- or rather, I store away until that season comes around again, and then I purge.

I would keep the carriers until you aren't going to use them anymore. I have a mei tai that I still (very rarely) use. And a sling that has a lot of sentimental attachment, so that's probably not going anywhere!

    ETA: DS is 3 :)

We also got rid of her swing really quickly, she was 5.5 months old when we moved and we didn't bring it with us because she didn't like the thing. Our crib becomes a toddler bed so she'll have it for quite a while still.

I've set 4 as my age. If we're not actively trying by the time she's 4 I'd like us to commit to being OAD and get rid of everything.

ETA - I gave about half her clothes away already. If we have another one it's only a 50% chance it would be a girl and we had too much for DD so we'd still be pretty much set.
  • I still have all of our stuff except for our walker. I loaned that out to a friend. I am still on the fence so i didn't want to get rid of everything and then need it again.
