So Far Away...

My mother is driving the 3 hours to come and see me tomorrow and I can't wait. Realizing that the distance that separates us is not monumental, I still wish she was so much closer so that I could share the day-to-day joys and troubles of my first pregnancy with her.

This made me wonder about the rest of the group. Is there someone who is far away from you this pregnancy that you wish you had near? What experiences in particuliar who you like to share with them?

Kind of a melancholy topic, but I'm in a mood...

My entire family (including hubs family) is 900+ miles away (14 hr drive). My sister visited for the first time earlier this month and my MIL is coming at the end if March and when the baby is born. I wish we lived closer to home. My family only gets to experience anything via phone calls, texts, and FB. I miss them a lot.

I'm so sorry @BrightEyes112 ...

My husband lost his father a year ago, and when we first saw the baby on the ultrasound my husband cried (I was shocked, totally out of character for him). When we left the office he told me that as soon as he saw the baby he missed his dad more than he ever had before.

My family is about 85 miles away and I hate it. I can't imagine being hundreds of miles away. Hugs to you ladies who are.

I'm about 11-12 hours away from my parents, it blows. My inlaws are about an hour away, and that's nice.

Mom and dad are an hour and a half away, just too far to make it easy. My extended family is still in England and I wish I could see them all more, especially my aunt.

My family is back in New Zealand, I haven't seen them since last July. It's really hard but thank goodness for Skype. They are coming to visit for a month once LO is born, cannot wait!

I'm lucky that my family is all within 45-60 minutes of me. I have really been missing my grandmother who passed away last January today. I wish I would have had the opportunity to at least tell her I was expecting.

I hear ya.... my family is in California. I'm in Maryland. About as far apart as you can be without leaving the continental US.

I see my mother MAYBE once a year.

We are a military family, and both sides of our family are a 12 hour drive away. Last pregnancy was rough because both of my sisters and I had babies the same year. This pregnancy, my SIL is due 6 weeks after me, and one of my sisters is due in September. I wish so badly we could be closer to hang out pregnant together.

My mom isn't herself since a few brain aneurysms in 2011, along with a stroke and doesn't know who I am anymore but in 2012 my dad, mom, sister, bil, brother and nephew moved 650 miles away, (10 hours) and being pregnant makes me miss them more than normal, especially my mom and when she was actually herself... ugh... yeah 10hrs is too far..... luckily I have my ILs around here. But I miss my mom more than anything...

Right now we are about 30-2 1/2 hours from most of our family. We are moving back up to NorCal in March so we will at least be 9 hours away. I'm pretty sure my family will visit me once the baby is born... maybe twice if we're lucky this year.

We have no family in the state. There are upsides to that, as I don't want them around all that much, but my mother is going to be 6 hours away from her only grandchild. That, I hate. My family lives in a very isolated area and has suffered a lot of loss and sadness. I wish I could share this baby more easily.

Sending hugs to all you ladies, I'm right there with you. My parents, along with pretty much my entire extended family, live 12 hours away. They all get together every Sunday at my grandma's house and it breaks my heart thinking my daughter won't get to experience that....those get togethers make up some of the happiest memories of my life.

My entire family is in New York, I'm in Illinois. Thankfully they fly out quite a bit, but it's hard not to be able to share the day to day normal stuff. My sister just had her first baby, and we FaceTime all the time but it's not the same. I was actually scared she wouldn't recognize me the last time I saw her. It's hard. My mom passed away several years ago, very unexpectedly. Instead of hot sex pregnancy dreams I have vivid dreams about being abandoned by her. There are so many things you want to ask your mom when you're pregnant! My BFFs live 8 hours away and in Hong Kong. Most of my family live in other states.

I wish my parents were closer (14 hours). I always wish that though. I just love spending time with them and we tried to cram so many things into my mom's visit last weekend that I wish we could share all those things without feeling so rushed.

I also wish my two best friends were closer- one is finally in the same time zone, which is wonderful, but the other lives half a world away and even scheduling a phone date is a challenge.

In all cases though, we're lucky to have the technology we have. FaceTime, phone calls, texts, etc will never replace having those people here in person but I'm grateful that we can use those things to make it seem like the physical distance isn't so far.

My Whole family is in Arizona and California, as well as all of my close friends.... I am in Iowa so I really get home sick a lot and miss having my own family around me not just DH's.

we live in so cal and my parents live in mass. it is really hard being away from them while pregnant. i try to not make it a big deal while on the phone or face time with them, but it IS a big deal! thankfully they are going to be out for a month when baby boy is born. it will be really special to have them here with us and to help too. my mom is already thinking of food she wants to make while DH and i are trying to juggle LO haha

All my of my family members are 17 hours away. I live in Southeast Texas, while they all live in Colorado (around the Denver area). Luckily we are going to visit them in less than two weeks, but it's been over 8 months since I've seen them. And after this trip who knows when I'll see them next.

My parents passed away - it will be 9 years in June without them. I miss them every moment of every day, but it's especially hard with pregnancy, miscarriage, and raising Lucia. I know how much a part of everything they would have been (I always talked to my mom several times a day, even when we lived in different states).

My sister(and best friend) lives in Maine, and my college BFF lives in Florida, so both of them are a far distance from San Diego.

My hubby. This is our first so I really wish he was here to share everything. It's exciting for him to hear updates and what not, but I know it doesn't compare to getting to feel the kicks and see my belly move.

My dad's deployed too and my momma is thousands of miles away, so it's just me and the pups. But I'm hoping to take the baby to see my parents during my dads R&R! And until then the dogs love cuddling with my belly!

This thread made me tear up. I thought I had it tough. I live a good 20+ hour plane ride away from my family. I like my independence but it's hard when you don't get to share the joy of pregnancy with them. I know both my MIL and mom would love to feel the baby kick. At least they are in good health and relatively young. Both are planning on coming for visits once the baby is born. We are also planning on going there for some extended visits.

Most everyone I love is far away! My sister and her family is 4 hrs away, my brother and his family is 2 hrs away. Both of my very best friends are far away and my dad is retiring this year and moving 2 hrs away. My mom passed away over 8 years ago...so yep, I get it. It's basically just my little family all alone. I really hate it. Hugs to everyone!

My mom is the same distance and I hate it. I see her at least once a week, but we are really close and that is not nearly enough for me! We are hoping to move soon, I really want to close that distance a bit.

My family is all very close but hubby is applying for a new job that would take us an 1-1.5 hrs away from them. I should not complain as that's totally doable, it will just change the ability for us to see them as often and easily.

My in-laws live 14 hours away and it's rough.I know realistically the only chance they'll have to see the babies (other than birth maybe) is when we go out to see them. Seeing as we'll have two little kids here soon I don't know how feasible that is going to be. It's hard on hubby since MIL is starting to favor BIL's GF's kids and talk about them all the time. I know he wishes we lived closer so that our kids would have a good solid relationship with his mom.

We don't live near any family. My MIL is the closest to us at 7 hrs away but DH doesn't get along with his mom so we see her like once a year for Christmas. My family is a 24 hr drive. Sometimes I wish we lived closer to my family but as long as DH is in the military that will never happen.

My mom, dad, brother, and one of my sisters all live about 4 hours away. My other sister lives 5 hours away. I miss them all so much all the time. In another month or so, I will be moving closer to most of the family- an hour from my mom, dad, and the one sister, 2 hours from my brother. My mom is willing to make the trip multiple times per week to help out once I've had the baby. Unfortunately, that will put me 6 hours away from the other sister

I just wish I could have them all together, all the time.

ETA: Hugs to all the ladies that have lost family members. H's mother passed away when we were around 16- less than a year after we started dating. I am lucky enough that I had the chance to meet her, but I know things would be much different if she was still around. I wish that she had been around to know that we weren't just a high school fling, to see us get married and now meet her granddaughter.

My best friend lives 7 hours away in New York, where I grew up. She and I have been friends for over 17 years now and her son (my godson) is growing so much and I hate that we miss out on so much of his life because of this distance. Now that I am having my first pregnancy, it would be nice to be able to share more of it with her.

My mom is 40 miles away. Somedays it feels much farther and others it's not far enough. I see my mom once a week though when I get my progesterone shot

My MIL/FIL are 5hrs away. Dh is really close with his parents, and we both miss them very much. It is really hard not to see them very often.
We used to live 2hrs from them, which was hard enough. Moving to where we live now was not an easy decision since it meant moving that much farther away.
Thankfully SIL moved so she is now 3hrs away and is a great middle ground for all of us to meet up.

My mom is 2.5 hrs away, ILs are 5 hrs away, my dad and step mom are an hour away...kind of stinks since there's no one close if we need someone in a pinch

All of my family & friends are 11 hours away. It breaks my heart that my little one won't grow up around them but I'm praying that I I'll build more and more relationships where we've moved so we'll have a good support system and loving group of friends for our little man.
