AW: Ran a 5K today!

This morning I ran the Chinatown Firecracker 5K in Los Angeles. I look forward to it every year. My finishing time is nothing to brag about. It was just great to get back out there running 2 weeks postpartum. It's been a long time since I exercised since dr put me on pelvic rest during pregnancy. Running felt great! I'm happy to say that I lost a lot of the 45 lbs gained and I feel like my old self already. I don't remember bouncing back this fast after giving birth to my 17 month old. I'm thrilled! I ran the race with my husband wearing a horse mask. So hilarious! It's the year of the horse. Thanks for letting me AW.

Wow just wow. This is all I want to do, but its cold, and I'm sore, and I can't sleep. This made me ugly cry.

    Hugs.

It's much, much smarter and much, much healthier to wait to work out.

Once you're cleared at 6 or 8 weeks you can start moving more and that first 5k will feel amazing. Promise. For now, listen to your body and heal and know you're doing the right thing.
Yep. I'm a distance runner and am itching to break out my Garmin and go for a run, but I'll be waiting my OB's mandatory 6 week healing period. I've already torn out all my episiotomy stitches from overdoing it :(

    Better safe than sorry.

ETA: Overdoing it = lifting/chasing a toddler around the house. Definitely not running or exercising yet.

  • How do you lose almost 45 pounds in 2 weeks? Maybe if your baby was 18 pounds at birth but I doubt you would be running a 5K at 2 weeks pp.

While it's great that you're up moving around. No one here wants to hear about how you lost all your baby weight in two weeks. I for one don't care, and I'm pretty sure the ladies here don't want to hear about it either.

Edited because mobile bump, and spelling is hard!

At the risk of winding you all up with a weight loss response I've lost all but 8lb of what I put on....but that's cos I forgot to compensate for additional calories required to BF and express. Plus think the majority was water weight as lost at least an inch of each cankle :)
On a serious note, I didn't put 45 on, so losing most isn't that dramatic....and strongly suspect the last few's gonna be a bitch to lose! OP must've been in training in the L&D ward I reckon

  • Wow so sensitive here!

To answer some Qs: I'm a STM, 36 yrs old, and had a baby boy 6 lbs 9 oz two weeks ago. My due date was actually tomorrow 2/24. I gained 45 lbs during this pregnancy, started at 115 and topped off at 160 lbs. I now weigh about 130 lbs. I was really underweight at the start of the pregnancy, so I only want to loose about 10 more lbs.

I think I bounced back so fast because I did not tear or need any stitches from the birth. Baby wasn't that big, so delivery wasn't bad. I'm not bleeding anymore. I feel great down there. I wouldn't have run the 5K today if I wasn't feeling well. I took it easy and ran some and walked some today.

I realize weight issues are too much for this board so I'll get off my high horse. I apologize.
  • This has to be a joke.

  • I highly suggest taking a look at your wall and following the advice that was posted there. Nobody wants to talk about, hear about or think about weight. Period.
  • Well, I've already lost half my pregnancy weight too. I haven't even had my baby yet. I wanted to get a head start, and I've only got 10lbs to go, soooooo.....

Well, based on your pictures 36 certainly makes more sense than the 16 you sound like.

  • Hey op, come post your weight over on M14. Ensure you use the title "pp weight loss & 5 k follow up" and include AAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL the details. We want to know exactly (to the ounce) how much you weighed the day you got your BFP, a chart of weight gain for your pregnancy, please be sure to include how much you weighed when you went into the hospital to give birth and when you got home. Belly shot 5 min and 18 hours out of birth.. AND your weight now.

Entertain me. Please. I'm bored, and really pregnant, and we haven't had any good trolls in a week or so.

(Edit: and I promise... We will be wicked "supportive" over there *winkwink*)

You don't need all this, just a simple link to the blog "The Art of Making a Baby" should suffice.
Bahahaha. That blog is terrible. I used to follow it just to get my fill of humble brag, but had to stop because it was too much.

How does someone have time to prepare for and run a 5k with a 2 week old baby? My baby is almost a month old and it's an accomplishment if I shower everyday. So I guess congrats you've lost most of your baby weight? (:|
