Re: water for baby

  • I was giving bottled but he refused to drink it, today I tried with tap (dr. recommendation) and he loved it. I was wondering what your LOs prefer.

Filtered through the fridge in a sippy cup, tap from the sink for bottles.

  • Tap, so she gets some fluoride.

  • No water for LO yet but we pretty much all drink filtered out of the fridge.

  • Tap with bottles and sippy cup. I gave up bottled water, too.
  • Bottled. I don't drink tap.
  • You do tap (well water) through our Brita filter for both sippy and formula when we supplement.

  • DD has yet to have water. I am fine with tap, but we buy bottled because I drink more water if it's super easy to get to. If I have to pour it in a cup, I never drink it. I'm weird.

because it didn't fucking snow enough for me to build my own
  • I use bottle because water in Vegas taste awful

  • No one in this house drinks tap bc it's well water and tested high in some mineral that makes it taste gross. I guess it's safe, just icky (dh tests water as part of his job and would never let it be if it wasn't safe).

  • Most purified bottled water is glorified tap water. Buy a filter (Brita/Pur) or get it from your fridge filter. Same and cheaper.

Does it smell like eggs? BILs well water smells like rotten eggs.

If by "give them water" you mean "allow baby to take water into mouth so that he can open his jaw and let it all run out down the front of his bib", then yes, we offer water. Filtered fridge water. I was told fluoride isn't good for babies, hence not giving straight from the tap for now.

No, not eggs, more like dirt. Just... minerally

  • Filtered, we have a lot of limestone in our water.
  • Yay! So I'm now crazy for offering tap water! (Mom and MIL side-eyed me...)

We give bottled water. Just a few sips with meals to cleanse her palate.

  • I haven't given DD any water yet.  I did buy some baby water a while back in case I decided too but just haven't yet.  If we do tho I'll use the baby water first then probably do filtered.

  • @rondosa Who told you that?? Fluoride is important for babies too! It helps their teeth just like it does for grownups. I did some googling and found that if you EFF you might want to do some bottled/non-fluoridated water because drinking so much fluoridated water can cause 'dental fluoridosis' (I probably spelled that wrong) which is just tiny white spots on the teeth that aren't really harmful. But that's because if you're EFF that's a LOT of tap water through the day We basically only offer LO water right now because the fluoride is good! She's happy to just drink BM. Not eating a big volume of solids though so we don't need water to move her poo along.

I guess it's because of the warnings about flouride toothpaste for infants and not overdoing fluoride, so I just assumed the same goes for water they are drinking. But I'll ask my pedi to be sure. I know Health Canada doesn't recommend fluoride toothpaste unless they are at risk for decay. Here's one article about it but I'll be sure to do more research https://www.babycenter.ca/a554806/caring-for-your-babys-teeth
  • @somerandomchick, thanks that's good info I hadn't heard before!
