April 2014 Moms

Baby's going home outfit....

I still haven't found or can't decide on a going home outfit for my baby girl. In fact I don't even know how the weather will be. I live in so cal and our weather has been acting strange. It kind of feels like we skipped winter this year. I'm having her on April 11th.
Have you picked out a cute out fit for your little one yet? :)

  • I live in so cal also. It has definitely been warm! I just bought a matching cotton shirt and pants with a hat. It's long sleeve but thin so it should work no matter the weather.

  • We will probably just do a onesie or kimono top with pants and a hoodie if it's cold out.   But depending on how big he is, it might just be footed PJs.  Nothing really special or sentimental.   The weather plays a big factor...it could be snowing, or it could be mid 60s here, so we're trying to just be flexible.

  • My husband chose an outfit. Of course it has I love daddy on it lol but its cute so whatever. Its a pink and navy Carter's outfit: leggings, onesie, light jacket.
  • I have a couple options, one is a little sleeper, the other is an outfit with onesie, pants and a jacket. They were both on sale, but super cute and looked like they would be comfortable for LO. I didn't want anything fussy, but wanted something new for her (not hand me downs from ds)

  • IL's gave us a cute sleeper for Christmas and my mom is knitting a sweater, so that will probably be the outfit.

  • I have been looking for a going home outfit but none are living up to my expectations. :(

  • I bought a cute 0-3 month terrycloth sleeper @ Kohls the other day, it's green and white striped, and has a cute pink bird on the left shoulder, and a big pink bird on her butt.  Birds are kind of the theme in her room/world lol.  We have also been given two newborn outfits, and will keep them in the diaper bag in case we need them.  DH & I were both small babies, so we'll see :) We are getting so excited!!!

  • DH gets to pick it out once he gets home.

  • We have several sleepers / gowns that are a bit more "special" than our typical stuff (but still no where near fancy)... We'll pack a few of those and see which fits the best. I'm sentimental, but not terribly so about this particular aspect.

  • Honestly going home outfits are just not a big deal for me. It's such a rushed blur, lol. But I would like her and the kids to have a nice Easter outfit! Just for pictures. I am big into holidays though.

Mind you I got her some nice hairbows to wear and hairbands!

  • I'm a buzzkill, but it'll probably just be a sleeper we already own. DH and I aren't really into a special outfit to come home in.
  • I didn't pick anything fancy. Personally I put one of 2 NB size outfits in my bag and a 0-3mo size in the bag. Cap, Swaddle blanket, and will have an extra blanket in case it's cold out. I'm not too into a fancy going home outfit, simply because it's just me and DH...as long as baby is dressed, I'll be happy!

  • An owl onesie with green pants, probably. But I forget if that's a 0-3 or a NB onesie, so potentially something in whatever the other size is since I have no idea how big this baby plans on being.

  • Kind of expecting him to be huge, seeing how large myself and hubby were as newborns. This is a 3-6mo outfit with a 6-9mo identical one on standby just in case haha
  • I saw this on Pinterest and I'm OBSESSED, even though it's ridiculously expensive.  Whatevs.  It's my last baby - he can have something overpriced for his coming home outfit!  :-)

  • This is her going home outfit. It is long sleeved but thin, it is usually in the high 60's low 70's here in Georgia. I am also due on the 11th.

  • We have 5 different outfits packed for him. On our little Maine island, March and April can bring blizzards, torrential rain, or 80 degree sunshine. Our diaper bag is filled to the zipper with short-sleeved onesies, a long-sleeved thermal onesie, fleece pants with matching sweater, lightweight frog and ducky jammies with matching hat, fleece fox jammies, and footed whale jammies, and footed elephant jammies. The clothes are also a mix of newborn size and 0-3 months. His bag is pretty full...

  • DS was 9 lbs, so NB size didn't fit him, which is what we had.  We had bigger onesies, so he wore one of those.  This time around, I have a 0-3 month outfit and still need to buy a NB, just in case.  I haven't really bought too many NB outfits.  The 0-3 month is a dress with tights and I am rethinking it, honestly.  I think it's a little too dressy.

  • My mom got her outfit. DH and I weren't super picky and my mom was super into it. So she picked the outfit.

I live in So Cal too... Orange County. The weather has been strange, but I think it'd be safe to say in April it won't be under 70 degrees. We have a hat and white blanket to wrap her in as well. Just get something not too bundled and you can add socks/hat/blanket to keep warm.
  • Probably just some kind of sleeper.

My DS wasn't even into 6-9 month clothes until he was almost a year old.. I can't imagine having a newborn that would fit into them.     Good luck if that's the case.

As for our outfit- DH will go buy one once baby is born.  He went to Target when DS was born and came back with three super cute outfits in newborn (we would have packed 0-3 and it would have been huge!) and I got to pick which one I wanted to use.  We will do the same this time.

  • Both my girls wore something that was cute, yet practical and weather appropriate. Even though most of my baby clothes have been used between both girls and again with my third little girl, I made sure they had something to wear home that wasn't previously worn by the other.
They were both born in cold weather, being November and December. So with my first baby I dressed her in an adorable fleece outfit that included red fleece pants, a long sleeve pink & red onsie with a snowman on it, and then a fleece hoodie that was pink and red stripes.
With DD2 she wore fleece footie pajamas that were pink with hearts and owls on it.
I have yet to get an outfit for DD3, being April in Illinois it really could be either cold or warm, so I'll have to wait until it's closer.

How does everyone feel about outfits with pants? Does it aggravate the umbilical cord stump? So far my options to pick from are just sleepers. As far as gowns, I read somewhere to make sure you have a blanket to cover their legs, because the gown will have to be pulled up for the harness piece to go between their legs when they are in the car seat.  Thoughts?
I took DS1 home in pants and it was fine.  Just make sure the elastic on the pants sits below the belly button.  I was also going to mention the issue with gowns and the car seat harness.
  • I am putting a couple things in the bag. A simple onesie with a matching hat and another one piece with sleeves and legs. I figure the weather won't really be an issue cause we will have blankets anyways and of course have the car warm for her.
  • I love newborns in white.. so I got this simple set from Carter's in the newborn size (although I will not be using the bib... one of my "pet peeves" is baby stuff with phrases like "I love Mommy" on it). In case he's huge, I also have these in 0-3m that I will bring to the hospital.

  • I'm scheduled 5/1 but have a feeling I'm having this baby in April. I am also team green (gender unknown) and thinking I may bring one boy and one girl outfit. I am also curious about size... I've heard newborn size only fits up to 8lbs and DH was 9lbs... Dr says my baby is meas big, so not sure what to buy for baby to come home in :/

Uhhhhhhhhh, 6-9mo clothes usually start around 15 lbs. If your baby is 15lbs, you're going to have bigger problems than not having the right sized going home outfit. I would swap that 6-9mo one out for a 0-3mo size.

Also, I was nearly 9lbs at birth and DH was 10lbs... DD was 7lbs 13oz and was only 7lbs when we left the hospital. Genetics don't necessarily dictate birth weight.

Do it! I just ordered it and I refuse to feel guilty. ;) It only comes in Newborn, unfortunately, so it probably won't get much use, but at least the blanket and the hat can be used for awhile.
  • My first DS was 8lbs, 9 oz and 21 inches long. My MIL had to go get preemie clothes for him because he was swimming in everything newborn and 0-3.

I highly suggest you also get a 0-3 month outfit. Just because you and your DH were huge doesnt necessarily mean you're going to push out a toddler. I was over 9lbs and DH was almost 9lbs when we were born, but DS was only 8lbs3oz...had I gone by "well we were both really big" when choosing his outfit, he would've looked like we dressed him in DHs clothes to go home. He wore NB size until he was 2 1/2 months. Just sayin.
