Help with swaddling

So my baby will be 8weeks on the 23rd and were just starting to swaddle, but I need some help! Do you put the baby in Jammie's still or just a onesie? Do you put a blanket over baby in swaddle? We haven't been but do they get cold? Should we still give him a binkie? My fear(baby has reflux) is that he won't be able to spit it out to barf. With that being said he sleeps on an incline, so do you lay them flat or on their side? So many questions! Thanks in advance!!

Re: Help with swaddling

  • Yeah I would do a onsie and a blanket for swaddling but that's it. Our DS is 5.5 weeks old and wears a long sleeve tshirt onsie with a sleep sack on--there the best things for sleeping at night. I highly recommend them. During the day he just naps in is outfit onesie. They sell the heavy ones and the thinner material ones for summer. U could still have them on an incline while sleeping but only on their back no side sleeping.

  • Depends on the temperature in your house. It's cooler in ours at night, so we put DD in a footed PJ.

A paci is fine, I'm sure your LO turns his head from side to side while sleeping. Lay him on his back.

  • I was always told the general rule is baby should be wearing what you're wearing, plus one layer. For example, if your house is cold enough that you are still in pants or long sleeves, they should be in jammies plus a swaddle blanket. If you want to do a swaddle PLUS another blanket for sleeping, cut back to a onesie underneath instead of the warmer jammies. Usually if you just keep checking on them frequently, you can tell if they feel too hot or cold.

  • We use the Halo Sleepsack Swaddle...a heavier version as opposed to the summer version  (LOVE IT!) as we can never swaddle tight enough on our own with a blanket.  We keep our house about 70 which leaves his room at about 68.  We put a sleeper under the swaddle sack. We give him a pacifier but he tends to spit it out once he falls asleep.  My little guy is a spitter upper as well (constantly)  After his first few days he's learned to project it a little further when on his back.  GL!
  • LO wears her pj's, swaddled.  No blanket over top.  The swaddle me goes right above her shoulders.  She takes a paci and is able to spit it out if she needs too.  We put her down on her back, but she naturally rolls to her side, we leave her like that.  HTH!

  • Jammies, no extra blanket, back is best.

We use Swaddle Me.  Cheaper than halo and not as thick.  And you get two for the price of one.  We just put it over a onesie.
