What do you do?

I'm curious what do you ladies do when you LO is in a carrier. Do you also carry a diaper bag or bring the stroller too?

I want to buy a ergobaby carrier. I'm wondering how am I going to hold my purse or daiper bag while carrying LO

And do any of you ladies hike carrying you LO?

Re: What do you do?

  • I would just keep the diaper bag in the car. In most cases. Usually I'm not to far away from my car.

  • Im confused.

But if we go out with LO I always bring the diaper bag and just throw a wristlet in. Is wristlet really not a word?  If we go to the grocery store we usually take the stroller because it has a compartment underneath that holds a crap ton of stuff.  I recently bought a woven wrap and I used it the other day and 'twas wonderful.

    I don't hike.

  • I usually have LO in front and the diaper bag on my back or over my shoulder.

  • I put two diapers and a small pack of wipes in my purse, which is small and easy to carry. I leave everything else in the car.

    No hiking here.

This. If I'm further away, I'll bring my backpack/diaper bag.

  • Sometimes I'll bring the stroller just to put shopping bags, etc. in, sometimes I have MH carry it. We haven't gone hiking yet (midwest winter) but when it's warmer we'll hike and MH will have a backpack we'll have diaper stuff/extra clothes in.

  • I missed the hiking part of the question-- yes, I've hiked with my kiddos. I have used both my MT carrier and ergo. H carries the backpack, I carry the kids. A few weeks ago I hiked with my toddler in my ergo on my back and my 3mo in MT in front.

  • Depends where we are going. If it's just the grocery store the diaper bag stays in the car. The mall.. Both the stroller n diaper bag come in

  • I haven't really hiked with LO yet since it is so cold and snowy- we did a couple quick trips when she was a few weeks old- nothing strenuous so I had her in a woven on my front.

I've done a lot of hiking with DS.  There is a bagpack that attaches to the Ergo that I've used that can hold some diapers, food, and a water bottle.

  • If we go to the mall or bigger places I will bring the stroller and diaper bag because the stroller will hold everything. If it's just the grocery store or somewhere small and quick I leave the stroller. I carry the diaper bag everywhere and I just put my wallet and everything for me in it.
  • We love hiking with carriers. I did several long (5+ hour) hikes in the Rockies with an 8 month old in the infantino balance (similar to an ergo) on my back and it was really comfortable the whole time. On that trip, my husband had the backpack on his back with lunch/diapers/etc.

We are going back to the Rocky Mountains this summer for a week of hiking and this time my husband is going to carry our two year old in our ergo and I will carry our 9 month old in the infantino balance. I will probably pack a small backpack with the essentials and carry it on front. If everything is secured right, it doesn't really feel like much more weight.
  • Usually I'm just running in somewhere and don't need his diaper bag. If I do need it I'll have DH grab it or I'll toss it in the cart.

  • It depends on where we are.  Grocery store if I'm wearing the baby I carry my diaper bag as well.  If we're somewhere for longer like the zoo we usually bring the stroller too and I hang my bag on the stroller and can switch baby back and forth between stroller and carrier.

I have hiked with DS1 when he was younger, it was $&#*#@& hard and hot but we were also in Costa Rica, it was 10,000 degrees and humid, DS was 15 months and heavy. Oh and we were hiking up a volcano.  (In my defense, I'm not straight up crazy, we were misinformed about the length and difficulty of this particular trail, DH and I had planned to trade off carrying DS but he ended up having to help his mother so I carried DS almost the entire way.) I would only be game to do shorter/easier hikes now.

  • I hike with LO in the carrier, yes. I switched from 4 hr hikes pre-baby to 1-2 hr hikes now. If it's under an hour, I don't bring diapers or a diaper bag. I figure, we aren't ever too far from the cat. If it's a longer hike, either DH or I carry a small backpack with baby items and water. The Boba we have has a strap on each shoulder to secure a diaper bag or purse but I haven't used it yet (DH has and likes it).

  • I only carry one bag with me at a time. No separate purse and diaper bag.

If I am wearing the ergo, I just use my purse for quick trips or a cute backpack I have for longer trips. However I am also wrangling two other kids. I always carry a diaper and wipes on my person because running back to the car can be impossible with all of the kids.

We hike with our kids. Depending on weight and size we use the ergo on the front or back. We also have a kelty kid carrier (framed) and it has a backpack and ther storage compartments. If I do wear DD on the front in the ergo I always use polls because I feel like my balance is not as good with her on my back.

If I have the baby in the ergo that is usually a sign it is not a good place for the stroller.

  • Generally I'll just throw my phone, wallet and a spare diaper/thin pack of wipes in the pocket on my ergo. Nothing to carry. I also have diapers/wipes in my purse so sometimes I'll carry that with me.

  • Definitely depends where I'm going but often times with the ergo I just grab my purse and throw in a burp rag and diaper. If I have the ergo I don't take the stroller. For long walks I just put my keys and whatever else in the front pocket of the ergo, so handy!

I've done a few hikes with LO in the ergo, very comfortable for half day hikes so far and LO loves it. I am a big fan of my ergo, LO is actually sound asleep in it right now, I prepped dinner wearing her and now DH is cooking. It's helped a lot with her evening melt downs.

This is pretty cool. Made me think of a super hero carrying a pile of people out of a burning building
