Does your laptop sit on your belly?

Stupid and random Question. Do you put your laptop on your belly at all? I used to do this pregnancy a ton, but now more cautious. Just wondering if any of you are noticing it's harder to just sit with your laptop?

Re: Does your laptop sit on your belly?

  • I either keep it on the end table next to the couch or just put it on my thighs...I don't think I ever put it on my belly.
  • Loading the player...
  • I don't. I don't have any scientific reasoning/facts to justify this - I just feel like it can't be great for LO. My computer gets really hot. I usually put a throw pillow in my lap and set my computer on top of that.

  • Yes! It's actually sitting on my belly right now. But, sometimes I get paranoid. Like I'm giving baby cancer or something. (You know since EVERYTHING causes cancer ;) ) And he always moves around at night when I lay flat on my back with the laptop on my tummy. I'm guessing he either likes the warmth or he's telling me to get that thing off!

  • I've been wondering about this too!  I've started consciously making sure the laptop is just on my legs or sitting at my desk or a table more... No scientific evidence or anything but my laptop gets pretty hot on the bottom too (and I have no idea about the wifi signals and whatnot.  I swear I'm not super crazy but I've been keeping my laptop, phone and ipad further away from me when I'm not actually using them).

I have one of those unnaturally enormous laptops. I get made fun of often because of its size haha but damnit, I can see the screen perfectly. That being said, putting it on top of my also large belly doesn't seem like a good idea. Plus, the bottom of my lap overheats sometimes. That's no good.

Fortunately, I have a work desk in my room so I can just sit there :)
  • I have one of the nifty lap top holders for my lap. Its like a desk on top, but bean bag on bottom, so it doesn't have to burn my belly or thighs.

Any chance you are in CA?  We recently moved here and the Prop 65 warnings are making me crazy!  I now know that my coffee at starbucks, food, house, furniture, and just about everything else is going to give me cancer and cause birth defects.

And to stay on topic :p I put my laptop on a pillow on my lap.

I'm in CA and DH and I always joke about how everything in CA is known to cause cancer ;-)   I've never bothered to look up how Prop 65 came about, but I definitely think it's had a "little boy who cried wolf" effect in practice.  How can I worry about anything when EVERYTHING here says it is known to cause cancer?

Not in CA, I just spend entirely way too much time reading ridiculous articles online. haha

I am so glad I am not the only one to notice how crazy it is, and I can totally relate to reading too much on-line :)

  • I sit with my feet propped up and put my laptop almost on my knees, as far from my belly as I can.  It runs pretty warm.  I get paranoid about it.

  • I currently have mine on my belly.....oops?!

I didn't even think about the heat aspect, I think I will try to avoid it from now on.

  • There's no room - my belly is usually occupied by many pounds of Labrador retriever. :-) lap top either sits on the dog or on my legs.
  • Lap desk on my thighs. The bigger issue is how I sit on the couch while using it, started having back pain from the way I sit.

  • Well my laptop has been broken for nearly four years... :p I do have an iPad though, and it usually sits on the couch or my boobs. It's currently on boobs.

  • I usually put it on my lap or next to me, not on my actually belly.  I used it a lot with my other kids and they don't have three eyes, so hopefully we're good.

Boobs are the best stand for the iPad!!!

  • Pre pregnancy I was convinced that if I kept my laptop on my belly I would be sterile. I also convinced my husband of the same thing. So I got in a habit of putting a pillow between or putting it on the couch or table next to me. There is no reasoning for this or proof I read anywhere, needless to say with LO in my belly there has been no belly laptop time, basically out of habit or paranoia. FYI typing this out makes me feel a little crazier.
  • I usually rest my tablet on my belly...sometimes my books, my plate of food or bowl of ice cream, the remote control, etc. It's really a subconscious act, and I know I probably shouldn't. But I can't help it, my belly makes such a nice shelf now.
  • I used to but find it VERY uncomfortable now. I have to place it on my legs and enlarge the screen because I'm uber blind.

  • Mine is usually on my thighs. I used to worry about all the wifi signals zooming through the air, but I guess there are whether the laptop is on my lap or not.

  • Thanks so much for all your input. I am glad I am not the only one who thinks about this crazy stuff.

  • I never even thought of it not being safe. I really thought you were asking if it was still physically possible for us. I do it until it's tilted so far forward I can't see.

  • Sometimes I will put it on my belly just to feel her kick. :) But I don't leave it on there long. Mine gets kind of hot after using it a while. :(

  • i've been just trying to avoid any type of pressure on the belly

the heat is certainly another factor to consider
  • I have a MacBook Air, so my laptop is super light. Yes, I rest it on my belly. It feels like nothing. My cats are heavier in my lap than my computer.
