2nd, 3rd or more time moms...

Re: 2nd, 3rd or more time moms...

  • I plan to start cloth diapers sooner - I waited until 3 months last time, I'll start as soon as they fit this time. I also would like to buy a few more - I have a very small stash, just enough to get by.

I hope I can BF this time as well, and I hope to try harder to maintain my supply. I had one dip in supply and it went downhill from there.

I also hope we can be a little more relaxed - it's easier to believe 'this too shall pass' from the other side of the hard days!

    Great post, thanks!

  • I had a bad experience with the OB office and hospital the first time around. So we switched. Smaller OB office and a friendlier hospital.
I'm trying to eat better and exercise more this time, but nausea and exhaustion are currently holding me back.
After LO is born, I'm going to try to be more flexible. With DD, there were things I tried to force and when I just let DD do her thing, we were much happier.

  • I will transition to the crib sooner. We are still having issues with that over here and DD is 13 months. Other than that, I don't think I'll do anything else differently.

4 losses- MC in 2006, MMC in February 2012 at 12 weeks and MMC (twins) August 2016 at 12 weeks. Pregnant again- 11/7/16. Another loss on December 28, 2016.

BFP April 23, 2017.  Our triple rainbow baby! EDD: January 2, 2018. It's a boy!
  • We are skipping the bassinet this time. Just going to have a crib in our room and I will try not to co-sleep as much although let's face it, I'm super lazy in the night and will do whatever it takes to get back to sleep faster. But at least we will avoid the transition from bassinet to crib. Hoping to encourage baby to self sooth without crying it out. Laying baby down drowsy but awake etc

Also want to pump more and introduce a bottle of breastmilk sooner so I can have more freedom to take time to myself.

Also trying to minimize the amount of baby gear we bring into the house. We don't have a lot of space and I hate clutter, so trying to keep just the bare essentials this time.

I want to get an arm's reach cosleeper and nurse lying down at night instead of getting to sit in a rocking chair in the MOTN for 22 freakin' months like I did w/#1.  What was I thinking?
Side lying nursing has saved my life. My DD still doesn't sttn so I feel like I would die if I didn't figure this out when she was about 5 months old!

  • I'm going to BF longer this time. I made it to around 5 months with DS, but I had NO support or guidance. Pumping wasn't successful for very long either. I'll speak up more and try to support other BF moms.
Also offer the pacifier less, and breast more.
  • I don't know what i would do differently as far as parenting. B is a super chill baby, which has helped and if #2 is similar we will probably do more of the same. But I will manage my hospital stay differently this time around. I felt like i couldn't say no to my husband's extended family who all came to the hospital right after B was born. I got no rest and not a lot of solo bonding time. This time i dont mind putting my foot downand saying NO!

  • I'd accept more help right off the bat. I felt like I took a lot of EVERYTHING on in the beginning with my first. This time, I'm going to be a lot more receptive to help and getting out when I need to.

  • I plan to bf longer! My dd stopped bfing for me at 4 1/2 months so I ep until 6 months. I didn't know as much as I know now and plan to work much harder this time. I also will be wearing this baby much earlier! As well as the BF plans to be wearing this baby too. He wasn't so sure with our DD but I think he now feels that he missed out. Everything else we may do the same! We shall see =)

  • I discovered the Baby Whisperer routine and sleep solution after DS was about 8 months. I will implement the routine early on.

Also, I'm hopeful for a VBAC.

  • I'm not sure that there's anything I'll do differently. I guess it will depend on the baby. I imagine he/she won't be exactly like baby #1, so I'm just gonna roll with the punches.

  • Probably not much different than #2. I'd like to be team green, but DH is less then thrilled about that. Otherwise, I'm a crunchy mama lol. Bed sharing, baby wearing, cloth diapering, bf momma.

I plan on putting lo in his/her crib right away like I did with DD. Unfortunately, my DD is still waking up throughout the night so I plan on being stricter with feeding during the night when LO is able to physically STTN.

@AggieBeth06 I hope to have a VBAC too! Fx for us!

I totally agree about the gear! That is the one thing making me feel anxious right now...where are we going to fit all of this stuff?!

  • I will go on maternity leave earlier. Last time I tried to work as long as possible and didn't give myself much time to get things ready for the baby. I ended up super stressed and building a changing table alone at 3am, 4 days before she was born (I could have waited for DH to do it but I got the panic in the middle of the night).

This time, I will take a few weeks off before my due date and get the room all ready. And try not to freak out.

  • I will probably have a repeat C-section. But this time I want to be the first possible person to see my baby. Last time, I was the last person to see her. I saw a picture of her before I saw her face to face. And I want to do more skin to skin this time. I really just want to enjoy the newborn and infant phase altogether. Me and my toddler DD are totally in love with each other, but we did not have that instant bond.

Me: PCOS, Hashimotos, Blocked Left Tube
BFP #1: Maya my little miracle was born 10/22/11
BFP #2: After multiple failed rounds of Clomid, Femara, Injectables, and 2 IUIs, we are cautiously expecting twins(!!) on 10/15/14 thanks to IVF #1.

  • I will do mostly what I did with #3 - move them in bed with me faster instead of attempting the crib first.  I just get better sleep that way since we'll be nursing.  With #3, I didn't stress much about anything and it made my experience with a newborn so much happier.

I'm a paci pusher, but we used the Soothies this last time, and I have a feeling they're making my son's top teeth come out slower.  We generally don't ditch the paci until it feels like the right time, but I think I may have to get rid of his for his teeth's sake.  It's our first time using this kind.  I think I'll go back to the MaM pacifiers.  :)

And last but not least, since my labors are pretty short (and hopefully shorter this time, too!) I think I may go natural this time.  I probably could've done it last time and I pretty much did it with DD2.  So I may forgo the epidural this time.  I tend to have prodromal labor for 6-8wks before I deliver and I'm usually exhausted and SO FREAKING TIRED of contracting by then...so I may change my mind.  :)
