Hey ladies, trying to figure out an outfit for G's cake smash photo session and was wondering about popular opinion, which do you like the best for cake smash sessions?
This is unisex, but I probably will have him in shorts (in a girls case, maybe just a tutu) or maybe undies that are the same color theme and have him go to town on the cake and put a giant "1" in icing on his chest.
All these poor baby girls when they get older looking back at the topless tutu pics. I voted dress, but really any full outfit that's not a lace romper.
This is my dilema! I think because ahe is a girl she needs a shirt with her tutu. But then I see everyone else does topless. Idk what ill end up doing.
I can't help but think this whole post was brought up due to the pictures I posted. I know this is a common trend, some may think it's stupid, but I hardly believe a grown adult is going to look back at her one year photos and be totally appalled that I put her in a tutu and no top. For the love of god....she's ONE.

Oh your pictures are adorable!! I love the idea of a cake smash session. And have commented on it with my mom and I also plan on having her wear a tutu but then she said "shirtless??" And it just stuck in my head. I know,I know I should not care what others think. I will probably do the same thing you did tutu's and pearl necklace super fun
@jordynleighx3 I thought your pics were adorable...which is actually causing my dilemma!! I was going to put her in a dress...but the tutu pics were cute. The photographer offered up a lace romper which sometimes I think is cute (aka Sol's Jaz!) but sometimes I think they look like mini cancan dancers;) So I was just wondering what others think. I thought MH would have an issue with her being topless...but he doesn't seem to care, so just wondering about public opinion given I will likely be using one of the photos for her thank you cards.
The topless thing doesn't bother me much, it's just personal preference. The lace rompers aren't my style, I think Anna will be in ruffle butt bloomers and a tank top or tshirt.
This. Although I do not have a girl. It doesn't bother me, but there are some people who are more conservative when it comes to these types of things and I think that is okay too.
I am going to come out of lurking to rant for a minute, because I have a huge beef with this subject (no offense to the OP, I understand this is obviously a personal preference thing and we all have our own tastes).
I REALLY dislike seeing little girls in tutus and pearls with no shirt. I think it's really tacky, inappropriate even. The outfit doesn't make any logical sense, and as a result looks so over-the-top. I have a DS, but if I had a DD and was doing a cake smash I would put her in a cute dress with tights and Mary Janes. I prefer seeing babies dressed as babies, not like scantily clad women. I cannot for the life of me understand this trend!! End rant.

You are entitled to your opinion and everything, but I do not get the sentence in bold. Why exactly is 'dressed like a baby?' to me, dressed like a baby can be from just wearing a diaper to wearing a full on footed one piece.
Also, they aren't scantily clad women, because they are babies...

When else can you wear a tutu and pearls..I don't think a grown woman can pull off a tutu and pearls unless you are a clown
As far as topless I guess it is a personal preference but I think its cute either way
@clandestinex the exception would be this...now this is where i draw the line;) And yes, I think that this is actually horrible...but in no way compares to tutus and no top.

Amen sister.

Well of course lol. Though that outfit is specifically meant to look like a grown woman. I think tutus, jewelry, and being topless don't take away from 'baby-ness'.
@clandestineX: Pearls aren't something a baby would normally wear. They are an adult accessory designed to glamorize. I wouldn't imagine most babies wear tutus around the house on a daily basis either. It's like how some women dress up their daughters for pageants- dressing them and making them over to look like women 4 times their age.
ETA: Also don't understand why there would be no shirt with the tutu... you wouldn't have your daughter like that on a daily basis either, and that with the pearls, headbands and tutu seems skeevy to me.

Well pageants are kinda a different thing because they are usually older and have to do poses that are quiet questionable.
Pearls might not be an every day thing, but some people do put their kids in necklaces and other jewelry on them. As for the other comment, I wouldn't know what other people put their kids in during the day. I do know that when it is hot, I had my son in just a diaper. I know if I had a girl, she would be in just a diaper too. I am not particularly fond of tutus either, but when I look at them, I associate tutus to babies and ballet dancers only.. nothing else, especially scantily clad women.
Also, for the record, I completely agree that this comic shows what is wrong with some people.
To me the problem with baby girls with no shirt on in their photos isn't the baby; it's the creepers out there who might see it. Unfortunately they exist

Though there are creepers for babies of both genders, for any amount of skin.

I suppose, but I don't think baby boy chests have quite the same effect... Who knows though - I'd rather not get into their heads to find out.

...looks down at tutu... So, I'm not dressed appropriately for business casual?
I am not a huge fan of topless babies after newborn shots. Just a personal preference thing. I like the idea of a plain onesie for cake smashes, for ease of laundry!
...looks down at tutu... So, I'm not dressed appropriately for business casual?
You put the 'casual' in Casual Fridays, on Monday.
I've actually legit did that once. Luckily I worked in a cubical so it didn't make a difference, but I worked like 5 days straight and they had the whole casual friday thing, well I guess I forgot what day it was because I did casual tuesday.

For a second I thought you meant you wore a tutu to work...

I read it and still left the discussion thinking she wore a tutu, haha!
This may seem weird...but I would really like to do a smash cake session, to use pictures for invitations or maybe just to have at the party. BUT LO has obviously never eaten cake, and I kinda wanted the first time she does to be on her birthday...is that silly?? Sometimes I over think things

Not silly at all, I have felt the same way. I decided to do a session before because I want the pictures. I think doing the smash session before the party will make the cake eating at her party that much better because she will know what it is
Good lord.
Hope my nipple bearing, pearl and tutu wearing, scantily clad, stupid smashing cake babies didn't "offend" anybody.
If it didn't offend you, than it doesn't matter. They're your kids and you can do what you want! Even though I think its silly doesn't mean that you can't do it and love it. The pictures of the girls are very cute because they're cute, not because of what they're wearing (or not wearing).

Come now, she didn't call your babies stupid or anything. Stop taking it personal.
For real. I didn't even realize you'd posted pictures until you wrote this and I went looking down the board. This has been my UO for ages. I think bows, jewelry, and tutus are silly on babies. That's not new.

Being that I'm the only one here, to my knowledge, whose posted a picture of my cake smash session with the girls wearing what this poster just said to be "skeevy" please tell me how you wouldn't take that personal.
I realize this is the Internet, and in all honesty I know the girls are cute regardless...but really, who calls a baby skeevy. Babies are the only ones I know who can wear a tutu and pearls and get away with it.

Yeah, well I was just talking about OSC's post, not that poster.
Oh goodness, don't put words in our mouths, jordyn and letranger. Jordyn, your babies are adorable and so are any pics of them. Post them wherever you want- they're your kids. My only comment was that there are creepers out there who would like those pics for other reasons than that you make adorable babies. And yes, letranger, I'm of the opinion that those creepers would be more interested in a topless baby girl than they would a boy, but like I said, far be it from me to get into their minds to know if my hunch is right on that one.

IMO, moderate nudity @ 12mo and under is totally acceptable.
