***Feb 18 update.
After weeks of stress my doctor confirmed today, it was a FALSE POSITIVE. Neither myself or my fiancé have or had syphilis.
Frankly I didn't think this post would be made a joke of... Very unsupportive and cruel to my feelings that my little nudger might have a problem. thank you to a few of the nice words posted.
I won't participate in this birth club anymore, it's put a bad taste in my mouth. Good luck bumpies.

Original message
I'm 15 weeks tomorrow, my first round on bloodwork in December showed a positive for syphillis. The second set of tests, again, positive. I've received 2 penicillin injections a week for the last 3 weeks.. My fiancé is waiting on his bloodwork still. I am confused and don't want to believe it's positive because I've never shown any symptoms, my fiancé and I are extremely close- the only instance I can think of is I must have gotten it at least 3 years ago before our relationship... Potentially having it that long terrifies me. I saw my new OB today who terrified us with all the possible baby complications that could happen. We have 2 ultrasounds booked to check the baby out.... But I'm just... Beside myself, don't know how to act or think normally... We're both , having a terrible 2014 so far, so depressed.

  • Why is the first post a high five? Kick me when I'm down already thanks
  • I'm sure everything will be okay. STD's suck, but they happen, and most are curable. It sucks because lots of times you or your partner have no symptoms.

FWIW - I've had HPV before, I got in in a monog relationship (more than likely my BF at the time had it, didn't know it, passed it on to me). So, there was no infidelity issues. I only knew I had it because of an abnormal pap. I had to have pre cancerous lesions removed, and thankfully I've had normal paps for years and years now.

  • I'm really sorry you're dealing with this, but like ghostof5letters said, I'm glad they caught this now so they can give you and your baby the best possible treatment.

  • Hoping you are staying clear of your man until he gets his tests back :) don't want to be passing it back and forth!

It isn't the end of the world, get it dealt with and get your focus back on the fun of being pregnant.
  • Everything will be ok. Just try and stay positive. Remember your little miracle and maybe plan something fun! Like decorating the nursery! It will get better:0)

  • Eesh that sucks. At least there are treatments for it and a small chance of harm for the baby.

Hopefully you and your SO can have an honest convo about this... It's a pretty serious matter.

  • Here's the good part of syphilis: it is one of the most treatable STDs. And you're treating it. It's susceptible to penicillin. You know how crazy that is? Almost no other infection can still be treated with penicillin because of resistance!

It's very curable, unlike HPV which sort of just hangs around and has the potential to eventually cause cancer (and most people never know they have HPV unless it shows up on a PAP smear).
  • Sorry you're going through this. I ditto PPs, it's great that you know so you can receive treatment and it is important that you have an honest discussion with your SO, even if you don't suspect anything. *hugs*

Love how quick ppl are to assume infidelity on my fiances part. He's the best human being I know.
  • Um, I hate to ask, but is it possible your fiance knew he had it and has been taking meds already?

  • OP, it may seem like people are assuming you got this STD from your fiance but it's a 50% chance it came from him, so it's the logical assumption, especially if you said you have had no symptoms and the last opportunity it could have been received on your end was 3 years ago. Even the best human beings make the worst mistakes, but from your update it seems as though he was not the cause. I hope your doctors are able to treat this and there are no risks to your LO.. good luck!

  • It's also super difficult for a man to catch an STD from a woman, if memory serves.

I mean, you could have gotten really drunk and accidentally fell on a dick one night... that would make sense how he's the faithful and best human being in the world *and* you've tested positive.

    It's happened to me before.

    Alyssa, omg. Hahaha.

  • Or the 3D porn did it. I mean that's viable too, right?
    I thought 3D porn = lapdance, or you're a creepy roommate?
  • Was he on penicillin recently? Doesn't really make sense. Either way I would be grateful that this was discovered early and hopefully will not do harm to the LO. You are better off knowing, that way the best choices can be made from here on out! Good luck!

There is always the good ole 'dirty toilet seat'
    theory.

That happened to my cousin's best friend's sister's boyfriend.

One time in 1993, two years before I went to high school they totally shut down the girls bathroom for a crabs outbreak on the toilet seats. Totes true.

    Those are bugs though...

  • I would also ask the doctor if a retest for you fiancé makes sense. You wouldn't want him to go undiagnosed or even worse he could reinfect you...
