  Little people, blocks, step stools, books. We have these small foam tiles (about 8x8 each) that you'd use as a play mat, but we made them in to cubes. DD loved stacking them and knocking them over. It seriously used to entertain her all afternoon! She also use to love an empty wipe container stuffed with fabric scraps or socks so she could pull them all out.

  I second the stacking blocks and shape sorters.  DS also has a wooden ride on toy that he LOVES.  At first he just sat on it, but now he is actually pushing himself along.  We also got him Rody (which I believe is actually for older kids, but DS would not get off of it at my sisters, so we got him one for himself).  He will bounce on it for hours (I think he is a daredevil at heart).

  Harrison loves cleaning stuff. We got him a kid's broom, vacuum, and a shopping cart. Sounds weird, but he just loves to drag that stuff around.   I know it's girly but the Leapfrog picnic basket was a hit, even with my 4 year old DS. DD loves playing with the toy food and utensils that comes with it.

  Agreed on stacking and sorting and filling and dumping! DD loves ring stackers and things like that... we have a couple from Melissa & Doug that I found at OUAC and she also has a train that has pegs for stacking blocks and circles on it, too, that she got for Christmas from Toys R Us. And push toys! Even now that she's walking her block cart is still really fun for her.
