Baby wearing

Who is still wearing their baby?
I haven't for awhile but I'm thinking I need to start again since Ty is going through a "I need to be held all the time" stage. I have a moby and ring sling. Do I put them on the same way or is the hold different? Maybe I'll YouTube it because I'm a sight learner.

  • I have put dd in the ktan facing out recently. She loves the bjorn while shopping vs the cart, facing out oe belly to belly.

This. So quick and easy when we are out. I've started using a wrap, too. It's nice around the house, but I'm not comfortable enough with it to use it while we are out and about.

  • Mostly the ergo hip or belly to belly carry.
  • I wear in the ergo and I will until he hates it. And I will cry when I can no longer wear him. He's well on his way to 8 months and 15lbs so the belly to belly hold isn't bad. I'll switch to the back when he's one, 20lbs or hates belly to belly.

  • Still use our Boba everyday, he loves it and its great for mornings getting things done. Haven't tried back carry yet. Makes me nervous and he likes belly to belly for now.
  • We use the Ergo maybe a few times a week. He only enjoys it if we keep moving. We also have a Moby, but I no longer find it comfortable. Was great when he was smaller!
  • I can only have her in it for very short periods. She's over 25 lb now and I just can't get her very comfy in the ergo or ring sling.

  • I am-- though I get scolded for doing so by my orthopedic.

  • Still wearing here but only in the hip carry position in the ergo. She doesn't like the belly to belly anymore but loves the hip carry.
  • I hate baby wearing! Every time I tried it my boys threw up right down my shirt. I just sold me beco for $50 today. It was liberating since I only used it twice and bought it originally for $40.

I manage without doing it just fine. When I'm at home Nico sits in the high chair, walker, or swing while I get stuff done. Yo gabba gabba is my secret weapon for keeping him busy or he can just watch me. In public I use my stroller the bucket clicks into and he will sit in the cart and high chair at restaurants really soon! Ty is such a good sitter that I bet he could do all of that now.

  • I had no idea there was an Ergo hip carry! So excited to try it!
  • I'm going to have to try the ergo hip carry too, I still use the ergo and she's happy still...would like to try the back carry too......

  • We do the Ergo a few times a week - mostly when grocery shopping or I'm someplace with both guys.

  • I haven't quite figured out the ergo back carry. She sits too low so her face is smooshed in my back.
  • The ergo was a life saver on our trip last week. So much easier to wear LO through the airport and even walking around and at the wedding we went to.

DH also was just wearing him in it around the house about an hour ago when he was being fussy and it calmed him down. We wear him belly to belly and he's already 20.5 lbs and it's still comfortable (can't outward face in the Ergo and I don't feel comfortable with him on my back yet. Plus he likes seeing us).

I was also still wearing DD belly to belly when I was first pregnant with DS, so she was 20+ mo old at the time and around 25 lbs. We occasionally back wore but she preferred belly to belly.

  • Just started wearing Isaac again because he's at separation anxiety phase. Nothing makes him happy unless he's with me. I have a love hate relationship with this phase. :) I'm using the ergo and k' tan still front carry with both, belly to belly. Isaac is 22? Lbs.

@jemasa33, your boys are so chill in person.I love it!
  • Still using the ergo belly to belly when the opportunity presents itself. I so rarely have just one that it doesn't happen very often.

  • I do with the front (forward facing) or hip or in my baba sling. I wish my carrier did front (facing out). I saw an awesome one yesterday but it said only till 9 mo and I can't justify it.
  • We are loving the Tula I got for Christmas. We go between belly to belly and back carry. I had him outside the other day, shoveling my car out of the snow! He has always been carried so as long as he still enjoys it, I'm going to keep carrying.
  • I'm going to try the hip carry in the ring sling tomorrow. Ty is around 17/18lbs so not too heavy. It would just be nice to have 2 free hands.

I do a hip carry with the ktan. Wish I had the ktan breeze though since I'm in south fla and it's hot.

  • Hmm, maybe I should start again. I kinda forgot about baby wearing. I need to learn the bigger baby holds.

This. We use the Ergo a few hours every day. DD loves to hang out and nap/nurse/peoplewatch while I do stuff around the house, take walks, or shop. We'll probably continue to babywear DD until she hits the weight limit or no longer tolerates it.
  • the baby bijorn is probably the baby item we've gotten the most use out of.  i wear her in it literally every day and she will be happy for hours is she is facing out and i am shopping or doing chores around the house. she loves it so much she gets excited and smiles/kicks her legs when i get it out.  she loves to see everything i'm doing and is not as happy watching from her bouncy chair or jumper.  the only problem is my back is really starting to hurt. i think i've messed it up for life trying to keep this girl happy.  i have a moby and i might try the hip carry there... but i have had hip problems in the past and don't want to mess those up too.  i'm not sure what the best solution is for continuing to wear her/ saving my back.  the bijorn is supposed to distribute the weight well but my lower back is definitely complaining.
  • I love our Ergo.

No one said you can't survive without babywearing. But a lot of us have babies who would rather be held and babywearing sure as hell makes life a lot easier for us. Yay for you for not needing to do it.

I for one like having my baby close to me as much as possible.
I wasn't knocking baby wearing. I was just saying there are ways to get by without it if you choose to. I know I'm in the minority since pretty much everyone baby wears.

What kind of Bjorn do you have?

  • @2012ames thanks! Nico is a strange one. He's so happy and mellow. Enzo was a screamer as a baby though so I know what the flip side is like!
  • I'm wearing. We have a didytai and I just bought a custom mei tai off someone on the FB Babywearing Swap. I'm also awaiting my WCMT from Anaira Creations. My chunk is at least 20 lbs and nearly 30 inches long. And he's still a snuggle butt.

That might be why it is uncomfortable. The original Bjorn is not very ergonomic. I would recommend getting a different carrier. Mei tais are really easy to use, and I have heard good things about the infantino one, if you aren't looking to spend a lot on one you may or may not like. Or ou could try an ergo.

Eta: if you are wanting to forward face, I think Beco makes a carrier that you can use forward facing, otherwise you can always do back carries.

  • I have the ergo, which she LOVED to be in. But lately she's not been very into it. I think she'd rather face out because she wants to see everything.

  • I used the Bjorne A LOT at the beginning and have just transitioned over to the ergo. I've had to watch a ton of YouTube videos to figure out how to snap it in the back by yourself, but I'm getting the hang of it and my little guy just melts when he's in it (belly to belly). It's really the only way I can get stuff done around the house!
  • We still use our Beco Gemini all the time.  L loves it.
