My husband and I are about to "pull the trigger" on making Molly Josephine the official name of our little girl, due in May.

I love the name. I think it is adorable for a little girl... but, I keep coming back to "Can a grown, professional, career-minded woman have this name and be respected?"

Also, does it flow well with big brothers Elias and Samuel? They both have obvious nicknames, but she wouldn't.

Thoughts?

I love Molly as a NN and I think it absolutley works for a grown woman.

That said, I don't like is as a stand alone name. To me, it's like being named Jenny.

I like Molly, but I understand your concerns. FWIW I've met 3 baby Mollys in the past couple of months, so apparently people think it works just fine for a fn

I adore Josephin, Molly is just ok and I do feel it's kind of cutesy. Is switching an option? Josephine Molly?

I just don't love Josephine as a first name. It's a family name on both sides and has family significance, which is why we are using it in the middle name position - but, I just dont love it as a first name.

I might be in the minority, but I like the name Molly as a standalone name. It probably helps that my college roommate had this name, though.

Would you consider Margaret Josephine, nn Molly?

Are you open to using Molly as a nn for another name? Amalia? Mary? Molly's definitely not side-eye worthy, just throwing out more formal options.

@ESBG - I have a Josephine, and if I am being completely honest, I didn't love it at first either. I was also a family name for us and we were going to middle name it, but it totally grew on me.

We call our Josephine Josie-- but I like all of the NN's (Joey, Jo Jo, Posey) and I love the formailty of her full name and the flexability I think it will give her as she grows.

Just my .02 though!

I know adults named Molly and I never considered their name incomplete. Go for it. It's a great name!

I feel the opposite as you do, I picture a grown woman when I think of Molly, not a baby or child. I do like it, though, and think it would work for all stages of life.

I think it would age just fine. But if you're worried, Margaret Josephine, nn Molly, is gorgeous.

There was a partner at the big NY law firm I worked at named Molly. She went on to be the attorney general of the Department of Justice. So, I'd say her career worked out just fine for her!

I love Molly, so I say go for it!

Molly can absolutely be professional/respected. Off the top of my head I know a lawyer and a doctor with the name.

i like Molly as a standalone fn. i know a Molly who is a stylish, adorable, humorous person (as well as professional) so perhaps that's why i like it so much. i don't like josephine. sorry $:\$

I would do Josephine Molly because I concur with you that Molly does not sound like a grown woman, least of all a professional such as a CEO, attorney, etc. Her brothers both have beautiful, mature names.

Love Molly and see no problem with it being a standalone or for an adult. I'd use it if DH would let me. It was my #1!

I like the name Molly, but lately I think of drugs when I hear it since it's the popular name for a street drug. But I work in a field where that stands out to me so I don't think it's the norm lol
