3rd Trimester

If anyone is planning to order the medela pump from Edgepark here is some info

So 3 weeks ago edgepark had a nice medela PISA with cooler set but they changed pumps at end of january and now only have a medela advanced portable double... with little info

I did some research and actually found out the deal... its a starter set now not the full kit. I included the link to Medelas site about the one Edgepark is offering.

  • Thanks for sharing. I was having trouble finding any specifics about this pump, which is offered by my insurance (United) through Edgepark. The person I spoke to on the phone said the Medela double portable pump doesn't have the 2-phase expression that normal Medelas have. Because of that, I ended up choosing the Hygeia instead.

  • After attempting to deal with Edgepark and several phone calls between my insurance companies I called a local medical supply store and decided to go with them. They are local & so much easier to deal with and you can get whatever pump you want but may have to pay the diff depending on how much your plan pays. I encourage everyone to check with places locally vs over the phone. It's nice to talk to someone face to face.

  • @Klafountain- well that sucks. Have you checked to see if there are anymore supply places close to you. I know I had a issue with Edgepark. They would only let me order the Ameda because I have united healthcare where as when I went local I could order whatever I wanted and just pay difference of what insurance max is. Hope you can find a supplier where you can get what you want.
  • Just a heads up...I ordered from Edgepark and they filed my paper work wrong with my insurance company (BCBS). When I checked online to see the claim it said I was 100% responsible for the cost. I had to call BCBS and they called Edgepark and straightened everything out for me thankfully.
  • @-Emgomez13- Thanks I will keep an eye on that. I already had an issue with Edgepark. Wed order placed for Medela then Thursday I got pump (amazed it came in one day) and it was Ameda. I called right away because i know they don't do returns to make them fix it and thankfully they agreed

  • I had trouble with Edgepark, so went with Sunmed, they sent the pump the next day, four months before my due date. I got the Medela Freestyle, and just paid the difference to upgrade to this one ($150).
  • This is who I used and got my breastpump about 2.5 months before due date.

  • My insurance (BCBS) told me that I can order from Edgepark or Yummy Mummy.
I was going to order Madela, but I'm confused because I'm not sure what the starter set is exactly... Will I need to purchase other items on my own?

Not really anything to add about Edgepark, but I live in FL and have BCBS and am going through Caresentrics.  They said I qualify for a manual pump and can't even file for it until 39 weeks.  Considering I am a RCS and they are going to do it at 39 weeks, I am a little concerned about it getting here in time.  I am also bummed I do not qualify for an electric one.  :(

The starter set is the pump (with bag for motor), the shields, tubing and two bottles. Basically what they did was take away the coolor and big medela bag (which you can buy separately). I plan to use either a bag i already have or purchase a bigger bag & cooler separately because the medela one if $99.

  • @Klafountain OK thanks for clarifying that & for the bag suggestion.
  • @teresa1896 I called medela directly and spoke to a representative that told me the motor is the exact same as the Medela PISA and that it DID have the 2 phase expression. I had a representative from a medical supply store tell me that it didnt as well. I had him check and double check on that feature because it was really important to me.

  • Other DME suppliers have switched to this Medela also...it seems to be the new Medela insurance model.  I just ordered from Byram and this is what they have now also.  It also looks to be on the Medela website the only "insurance" pump they supply now if you click on the link in the OP.  For me, it's not a big deal because I have  PISA from my first, so I'll just switch the new motor into the old PISA bag, but it is kind of a bummer for people who this is their first pump.

I agree... Its a way for them to cut cost basically. I got the new medela that edgepark offers and it looks great. i was amazed at how small the motor bag was and am thinking it will take up less space than the whole set

  • What kind of bag and cooler is everyone getting to hold everything? I haven't been able to find one online yet that I like.
