Gabriel (Gabe) Frank Ednyfed was born on Thursday at 12.58pm, weighing 8lb 6oz. He is having a bit of trouble establishing feeding but we are otherwise doing well! We are so in love with our little man!
His birth story:
I went into early labour Monday afternoonwith contractions coming about every 7 mins. They increased in intensity but did not get closer together throughout Tuesday and I could not sleep through the pain. On Wednesday evening I got out of the bath and suddenly they were coming every couple of minutes and we decided to go into the hospital. Fortunately it was only 15mins away! When I was examined I was only at 2 cm and they wanted to send me home, but I must have had at least 10 contractions getting back to the car and just couldn't face the journey. Thankfully it was quiet in L&Dvso they let me sit invthe bath for an hour and re-examined me after. I was at 3.5 and they pushed the rules to admit me as I was clearly progressing now.
Originally I was booked into the midwife unit hoping for a water birth , but the pool was in use so they put me in a normal room, and after 3 days of labour and no sleep I was open to pain releaf! They would only give me pethadine ( which did nothin) as I was not at 4cm and wanted to wait 4hrs to reexamine. We had to really fightt to bring the examination forward. I wasbthen at 7cm and in do much pain, but then they gave me gas & air which made it more manageable. At this stage u really wanted an epidural and had to fight for it but after that was in ( about 5pm Thurs) I felt so much better!
My main problem was that by now I had not slept since Sunday night and when it came to pushing I was too exhausted. He was twisting around in all directions instead of coming down and had the cord around his neck holding him back. I ended up needing forceps delivery. Thank god for my epidural!
I have to say that the midwives were amazing and at no point did I feel worried in what could have been a terrifying experience. Postnatal care has been good and we are hoping to discharge this morning if all goes well!
Sorry this was so long. Now a pic!
