Going Crazy...

So this all started about a two months ago when DH's wedding ring went missing.  He keeps it in my jewelry box when at work and only takes it off at home to do dishes or shower.  We have a little holder at each place to put our rings when doing those things.  We searched and cannot find it.

Then for weeks I kept telling him that things weren't where they were supposed to be.  It seemed like little things just were moved around, but I chalked it up to being exhausted and not remember moving them.

Then crazier stuff starts happening.  We lost a bottle and looked all over our room and it wasn't there.  Two days later I dropped something and the bottle was right under the bed when I specifically checked there earlier.  I had a candy bar on the cabinet and it went missing.  DH and DS both swore they didn't eat it.  I know I didn't.  Then, DS had snack packs for school.  There were 5 of them.  He had one for a snack and the next morning there were only 3 left.  He swore he didn't eat another.  I was so annoyed I searched all of the rooms and trash cans for evidence that the ate it.  Nothing.  I told DH I swear someone comes in our house and moves shit around to annoy me.  Like those weird posts about people breaking in and putting the water on.  He thinks I"m silly.

Then yesterday I came home from picking up DS1 from school and he goes to use the bathroom and the door is shut and locked! WTF?  I sure didn't lock the door nor do I recall even shutting it before I left to get him.

I'm starting to think I'm losing my damn mind!

  • We are in a two bedroom apartment and LO is in our room so we don't have monitors.  DS1 woke up the other night and said he heard someone saying his name.  I just chalked it up to a bad dream.  I'm a scaredy cat so I would rather be losing my mind than it be a ghost! I've lived here for 2 1/2 years with no issues until about two months ago.

  • Or a pack rat they steal things. Does not explain the door though. That one is a head scratcher.

  • No telling, honestly, but with that much going on, I'd be looking into a camera monitoring system or something to just ease my mind.

  • Could be a ghost. In an apartment you would be likely that other tenants are experiencing things too. If you know some of them good enough ask around. I seriously grew up in a haunted home where stuff went missing all the time. My cousins Christmas gift went missing from my Grandma's closet. After we moved we thoroughly checked everywhere and never found a single missing item. I am still perplexed to this day. I am part of a paranormal group that does investigations.

  •  I told DH that I wanted cameras but then I'm afraid of what I'd find.  I've been thinking on all of the possibilities.  Maybe DS1 ate the food but he couldn't have done the ring and the door.  I thought maybe a rodent but I never see one and the snack pack was in the fridge and then the door happened.  I thought DH was screwing with me after the candy bar incident but he wasn't home when the door thing happened.  No evidence of anyone breaking in and we live on the 3rd floor.  The only thing else I could think of was the maintenance crew that has keys to the apartments and has been working on the buildings below but it seems weird that they would still random snacks and lock my doors.

  • Perhaps someone is sleep walking?

  • The only ones that have keys are DH and maintenance crew.

DS1 is 11 and will usually tell me if he takes something to eat but swears he didn't.  I thought about the sleep walking with him because I had an incident when he was a toddler sleepwalking but haven't had one since.  I will have to watch closely.  Hell maybe it is me! lol When DS1 was 3 I woke up to hear him screaming and realized he was outside on the front porch in the dark at 3 a.m.  He had unlocked the door, went outside, and couldn't get the door back open.  When he woke up he was alone in the dark and started screaming.  It was terrifying.  We put a chain lock on the door the next morning.

  • I thought you were going to say somebody was in the bathroom & locked the door so you wouldn't see them. That's what I would've thought if it happened to me. That's all freaky stuff though!
  • Damn. Wish I didn't read this thread.

  • Please get a camera and please update. Really I bet it is just your son going through puberty type things and he is sleep walking.
  • That would freak me out SO bad! This post made me remember that when I was about ten my parents tore our house down to remodel, and in the attic they found that rats (Huge ones!) had been stealing my Barbie clothes and toys and adding them to their nest! Creepy that they were coming into my room most likely at night!
  • Should not have read this during a MOTN feeding.

I would set up a camera of some type to check it out.

  • Yikes. So glad I didn't read that in the motn when I opened it. I'm totally a believer. My ss swears there is something in our old farmhouse we're in now. I've only had one issue of seeing someone walk from the living room to my room, but I brushed it off as the dog. Dd smiles at something behind me when she's on the changing table. I always ask if she's smiling at her grandma. My mom passed 24 years ago when I was 11, but I like to think she's been with me since giving birth. As long as it's nothing mean and it isn't moving stuff, I'm ok. The moving stuff/missing items is what makes me think yours is a ghost.

K, now I'm not sleeping again. Rats living with me are the stuff my nightmares are made of. Bring on the ghosties!

I wish it was him tricking me, but he works away from home 6 days at a time so he isn't here half the time things happen!!
