  • I don't have any new pics this morning, but here's an old one of Ringo, just for fun.  My mom put a doily on his head, and he looks like a little girl posing for a First Communion picture:

    I'm going to call the vet for him today, because he's been coughing a lot since his surgery. Hoping his trachea is just irritated and dry still, but I'm a little worried about his heart, due to his murmur.

    @nutmegs8 - your baby had surgery, too! Any updates?

    @lizardbreath14
    Aww it is probably irritated. Since he had a tube put in his mouth. If it is real bad they might give you something to help the cough. How bad is his heart murmur? My dog has one 4/6 we go to the specialist next month. Then will see if he can have a dental. Needs one bad.
    Keep us posted.

  • @dragonfly711 I think last time doc listened he said it was between a 3 and a 4.  He always calls it a "moderate" murmur.  I'm probably overreacting, but he kept me up two nights in a row coughing, so I, of course, started googling. Dr. Google freaked me out, saying canine coughs that are worse at night may be heart related. But it's probably just that the furnace is on and it's so dry, combined with the irritation from the tube.  I'm going to call just to be safe. I will update. And yeah, definitely get those little teeth cleaned! I wish I did Ringo's 2 years ago -- he wouldn't have lost so many teeth!

    @lizardbreath14

    Yeah. It is hard. Always feel bad for them. I have worked at an animal hospital for 16 yrs. I used to do the dentals all the time. I hate having his teeth so bad. One year he had two dentals his teeth are so bad. So far 10 teeth out. But need to check his heart first.
    When did yours have surgery? What was the surgery for?

    It was dental. He just had it Wednesday, and the took 10 teeth.  I started sobbing. (This was being discussed on the last special snowflake thread that started Tuesday, including pics of his face before and after.)  He lost most of his cute smiley teeth in front and I didn't take it well. LOL. Poor vet -- he has no children and goes into veterinary medicine because he probably prefers animals to people, and here he is with this pregnant woman sobbing about her dog's teeth!  Anyway, I just called him -- he's going to give me cough tablets. He said if it's not better after the weekend to bring him in.

    @lizardbreath14
    Aww. I don't know how I missed that post. But I am always mobile so that might be how.

    Dogs so great w no teeth. My jack lost his k 9 tooth. It was dead. I know when I get his dental done he will lose more.

    My cat is having his dental in March. He has a dental yearly and always has teeth taken out. This time it will be the only 3 teeth he has left. You would never know he doesn't have teeth left.

    Just know you are doing the right thing. Dental disease in animals is bad. My guy too has a change in how his face looks.
    Glad he is giving you something for the cough. It does happen sometimes after surgery. It should make him feel better.
    Any time you need to chat let me know.

  • The other fur babies are occupied. Gretal is too but it involves smothering me. She hates the snow so no snow bunny Gretal shots today. Only snuggles!
  • Penelope about to brave the blizzard we had!

    Thank you so much! Your jack is adorable, btw!  My grandfather has a jack named Jack. LOL. He's very overweight and was a large jack to begin with. My grandfather feeds him cookies and meatballs, and you can't tell an old Italian man that more food does not equal more love. Grandfathers, dogs, and children can all be very alike (stubborn) sometimes!
    ETA: Your golden is gorgeous, too!

    @lizardbreath14
    Oh wow. Your grandfather!!! Lol. My jacks name is Bentley. He doesn't act like a jack. So lazy. Doesn't bark much at all. Stubborn oh yes he can be. Especially when it is cold out he refuses to go outside. I have to put hi out. Lol

    The golden is happy to lucky and loves Bentley. They are great with each other. Bentley however is my spoiled one. Always on my lap. Hogan will sit in the morning and wait for me to brush his teeth. It is so funny to watch!!
    Well keep me posted on your little one. :)

    oh man I so wish it was 80 here.  Just got 2 ft of snow dumped on us yesterday into this morning.  Work has been canceled the past 2 days ( teacher)  it is 40 degrees here today, this is like a heat wave. Usually it is around 0 - 10 degrees.

  • We don't have any snow right now, but here's a picture of Aspen playing in it two Christmases ago. She loves it! She looks like a little piggy in this picture.
  • @colllydon, so cute! She looks like a mix of my two girls.

    My shorthair can't handle the snow and cold. We have a system now that after she goes to the bathroom, she runs to me paws at my leg and I pick her up and snuggle her to keep her warm (she's 6 lbs). The other one is 13 lbs and long hair and is beefy!

    She's pee pad trained too incase there is too much snow. If she goes out she has little coats, but she hates them and runs away if she see them. She will just squat real quick and dart back inside. 6 lbs!? That's amazing! Holly was 2.5 when we got her but she's a hefty 11.5 now.
