work

How long are you planning on working?  I know unexpected factors can influence what happens... just curious.

Last time I went off a few weeks earlier than I expected due to swelling/back pain - 32 weeks.  This time I'm feeling better so far so am hoping to work until Easter break starts - 36 weeks.

Re: work

  • I'm planning on working until mid April, when I'll be about 38 weeks. I hope I can make it that long. I'm already checked out...

  • Barring medical complications, I'm hoping to make it to 38 weeks.  I did with my son (took a week off before our scheduled cesarean), and it was fine.

This. I'll start working from home around 37 weeks then will work until I go into labor. If that doesn't happen before my due date, I'll probably stop working at that point. But dd was 4 days early so we'll see.

  • I was gonna go for 38w but I decided to do 37. I'm an optometrist so I don't get any maternity leave anyways (I'm in Canada) but I wanted to have a few weeks to myself to just relax an enjoy before baby arrives!!!

Like the above... Somedays I feel like I've already checked out! April can't come fast enough!!!

  • Hopefully working up until I deliver. I would like to take more time, but I want to save my PTO. Last time, I worked through Friday (39 weeks), missed the following Monday because I was so swollen I couldn't get any of my shoes on, then went into labor Tuesday.. So almost to the very end. This time I work from home, so it should be easier.

  • I'll stop working at about 35 weeks. And I won't be going back :-)
    image
  • I plan on starting my leave on my due date. As much as I would love a couple weeks off before the baby gets here, I don't want to use up any precious mat leave on non-baby time. I s'pose I could've asked for 14 weeks altogether...coulda woulda shoulda!

  • My maternity leave AKA vacation time starts at 39 weeks.  I do not want to deliver before then because it could mean a delay in graduation from residency.  Unless I am physically unable and my OB forbids it, I will be there working my butt off.  Fingers crossed!

  • With DS I worked until I went into labor (I was 38 w 3 days and he was over 8 lbs). I was very uncomfortable, but have my own business. This time i'll aim for a RCS at 39 weeks and have scheduled to work until 38 weeks...but I'm not sure I will make it. Super uncomfortable back pain. May need to stop at 36-37 weeks.

I'm a FTM but I'm planning to work until I can't work any more - whether that's bed rest per the OB or labor!

(She says at 25 weeks, not knowing what 35 or god forbid 38 weeks feels like...)

  • I worked until the Friday before my scheduled induction (which was on a Wednesday at 39+1). If I am scheduled again I will probably take a couple of days before. If not, I plan to work until I go into labor. I don't want to risk wasting 2 weeks of my sick time before baby is even born.

Ditto. My due date is on a Monday, so I set my last day at work for the Friday before. Of course, I recognize that baby comes when he wants to, so we'll see how long we actually make it.

  • I plan on working until 39 weeks. However, I am a teacher and if we keep getting snow days I may have to work a few extra days to make up for the time. I don't want to use all my sick time if I don't have to!

  • I'm probably going to stop at 32w. I'm already struggling to get through my 6 hours a day. So if I make it another 4 weeks I'm done at 32. My back/hips/pelvis can't handle sitting so long anymore.

  • Im planning on working til May 1st (due the 5th). I will have PTO til the end of the month. Then my mom will be in town, which will allow me to go in and pack up my classroom and go to any end of the school year meetings.

  • With DS I worked until the day I went into labor at 38w6d. Waiting until 39 wks to decide whether I will try to VBAC or schedule a csec. Hopefully I can last that long again.

This is me too.  I will hopefully work up until the day I deliver.  Plus, it is tax season and I need to make it through the whole season!  I don't want to use any PTO before he is born.
  • I'm planning to work until I go into labor too. I don't want any of my precious time off before baby is here.
  • Well my first plan is to go until I deliver. With my DD I was going to take the last two weeks off of school but she decided to come 3 days before my scheduled off date......

This time I've made plans for a sub anytime after May 1, and he'd just be on call when I needed him.

  • As long as I can handle it, I'm planning to go until my due date. At that point, I think I'll probably go off and just wait out at home. Realistically, I may stop taking supply calls a week or two before my due date. I already come home after a full day with my feet and back hurting, which I don't see improving with time.

  • With DD I had a scheduled csection MOnday morning. I was at work until 2am Saturday night (ie Sunday morning). This time I'm unemployed

This. Mentally, I'm done and could leave any day. Come on, lotto numbers!

  • Goal is until 39 weeks (5/9 would be my last day). DS was born at 36w4d. Because of Winter Break, I stopped at 35 weeks.

  • I'm hoping I can work all the way until I go into labor. I have the potential to work from home and just have to go into the office like 2 days a week. I'm hoping LO behaves and we make it to our due date May 22!

  • I can use 20 sick days before (4 weeks) but was worried about her coming late and also wanted to have some days left when I go back to work. I'll be taking 3 weeks, so I'm out at 37w1d.

  • I worked until the day my doc sent me to hospital to be induced at 37 weeks for pre-e. I would have worked up until 39 weeks, if I could have. The only thing that was too much was the commute in the dead heat of the summer (I had DD first week of September)... Hoping it is similar this go around although I am far more exhausted this go around.
  • I just put all my paperwork in this week, I'll be working until about 35-36 weeks, then taking some vacation before starting my actual mat leave at 38ish weeks, RCS is scheduled for 39w 2d.

  • I worked until my due date/when I went into labor last time. I would have gone stir crazy being at home any sooner. I only work PT now, but I'm planning on working as long as I'm comfortable again.

  • I sit at a desk all day so I have no excuse not to work until delivery. That said, I think I might start mat leave at 39 weeks so I can spend some time with my older son before the baby comes, just the two of us. I will definitely have the baby shortly after my due date if I don't go into labor early (will have a RCS) so it's not like there's a chance of stopping work too early and then waiting around until baby comes at 42 weeks or something. If I wasn't sure of baby's eviction deadline, I would keep working as long as possible so I didn't waste mat leave.

I'm working until 37w1day. Hopeful little guy will give me some time at home before making his appearance :)

Edited to mention that the extra 3ish weeks or so will be PTO before my leave kicks in.

    Baby #2 due 4/26/16!

  • I'm hoping to work until she gets here. I'm a teacher and my husband works at the same school, so we joke that at least we would be together if I started going in to labor at school. (We teach middle school, so the thought of our students being gathered around is terrifying and could make me take off before my due date.)
  • With DD, I took the semester off of school, but kept working both or my jobs. At the daycare, I worked my normal week through Friday. At sonic, I worked my normal week. My boss told me on Sunday (the last day of the week) that he wasn't going to put me on the schedule until after the baby was born, bc he didn't want to clean up if anything happened there. I actually worked until 4 that day, then went to the hospital about 2am the next morning.

Long story short, I worked up until 10 hours before going into the hospital. This time, I have a big girl job, so I will start my leave on my due date. (May 2nd)

I would LOVE to get to be out at 37 or 38 weeks (or now at almost 28 weeks)! As of now the plan is to work till Friday May 2nd (the date I've told my boss and HR). Then Monday the 5th is my preop appointment and Tuesday the 6th at 7:30am my LO will be on its way via c-section. Some days I honestly feel like I can't even make it through the day, let alone another 2 and a half months...
    Edited for misplaced wording

I know a teacher whose water broke in class (high school).  She waited until the bell rang for lunch a few minutes later, wrapped a coat around her waist, told the office she needed a sub for the afternoon and went to the hospital!  I definitely don't want to be working until that point!

I had DD at 38 weeks... started induction process (gel etc) at 37 weeks 4 days... so I'm hoping to make it until 36 weeks.  I think if I had waited longer last time my BP may have gone high earlier...I have a 3 hour round trip commute, which doesn't help... but my job used to be Kindergarten... which was more physically demanding than my special needs position now.  I can sit a lot more than I used to be able to.

  • I only work one 12 hour shift per week as is. I will try to work until my due date - although with DD I started partial shifts at 35 weeks and was out completely at 37. She was born at 38. I might try to work two six hour shifts rather than my one long shift if I get too uncomfortable.

  • Until all hell breaks loose. In other words, when I go into labor.

Last time, I finished my work week, went in to the obgyn and told them I was done and that this kid had to get out. Mind you, it was W41D4 (or something...maybe D3 or D5, can't remember) when I was induced and I was tired of working 45+ hours per week standing on my feet for 12 hours daily.

I plan on doing the same.

Biggest issue I have is that I have an inventory that needs to be done on May 1 (or April 30 after we close). So I can't go into labor before that nor can I take any time off that week.

However, for some reason, I'm feeling this kid is going to be late too. So much for a 5/8 due date.

  • This baby will be born sometime between 5/21-28, and I plan to start maternity leave sometime between 5/1 and 5/15, depending on how I feel. I'd like to take some time off to get the house ready and spend time alone with DS without having any deadlines hanging over my head. I'm self-employed, so it'll depend on how long we feel like we can go without my income.

Last time, I went ten days late and my work had a plan in place of who I should call if I couldn't come to work because of childbirth, and then my official last day was the Friday before my scheduled induction.  Barring unforeseen complications, I want to do that again.  It was awesome when the patrons to asked when I'm due to be able to say "last week" and watch their eyes get big.  Also, it makes me feel tough to do my (super easy) job when my coworkers are impressed that I'm still checking the book drops and shelving even the books on the bottom shelves.  :)
