Completely upset to tears :((

Just noticed I have varicose veins forming in my right inner thigh. I know it's from pregnancy, but it's completely frustrating because I am a healthy weight and I still excersise. I'm even still running!! Finally got comfortable in shorts again after my son and now this :((( having a hormonal meltdown...don't mind me. Has anyone gotten them and they went away after baby? I'm not sure how exactly they work. I know my mom has them she has also been pretty over weight most of her life so I'm not sure if its gentic or not.

Re: Completely upset to tears :((

  • I had them before I was pregnant, then they got a lot worse during pregnancy. They never changed back post pregnancy. I don't think it has anything to do with being overweight. I've been at a healthy weight my whole life, my sister too and we both have them.

  • I think being overweight can make them worse but the women in my family are all normal weight and we all have vericose veins. :( I've had them since college. They are heinous, but there's not much to do about them.

  • I've never had them :( even with my first son they never popped up :(. I'm just super upset because my stomachs already deformed to the point ill need plastic surgery to even get it remotely normal. FINALLY get down to a weight and toned up to the point I was comfortable in shorts etc and now this :((. I have always be super subconscious about my body, in particular my legs :((

  • I don't have those but I had my emotional breakdown today from my horrible stretch marks so I feel your pain! I know there are laser treatments for them. Just remember. It's worth it :)
  • I know there are treatments, but tricare won't cover for anything cosmetic. Even though my stomach is a hernia waiting to happen. They won't even do anything for that until the hernia forms :((.

  • As to how woman get away with getting boobs ill never know :((
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker
  • A lot of woman on tricare have gotten away with getting breast implants "due to physiological reasons" not being comfortable with smaller boobs/sagging boobs. -.-

  • I'm right there with you.  I've always been a healthy weight, but I've had some spider veins since high school.  A few more small ones cropped up during my first pregnancy, but this time--wow.  The inside of my left ankle is just one giant starburst of dark veins, and there are others in many other places.  I'm trying to be hopeful that they will at least fade a bit once I give birth (I've heard they can!), but I don't know.  My mom has always had lots of spider and varicose veins, so I won't be terribly surprised if they stick around for the long haul.  Boo.  :/

Huh, interesting. Tricare is an Insurance company I'm assuming? I had laser therapy for some spider veins on my legs a couple years ago and it cost about $500. They are completely gone and totally worth the money. Also, the veins may not be permanent once your blood volume decreases after baby is born. Get a set of good compression stockings in the meantime. I have the ones that go up to my thighs and love them.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Correct tricare is military insurance, I have to get permission to even go to the er unless its life limb or eyesight. To be seen by an ob I have to prove I'm pregnant and be referred too by a general practitioner. While pregnant with my son in my third trimester it took me almost 4 weeks to be seen because I had to take blood work to be on file I was pregnant. Even though you could totally tell!! Wait to see a dr...wait for the referral to get approved THEN see the ob. Most places this ob included wont even get you on the books until you have this referral.

  • Oh they are talking about finally approving breast pumps as well....finally lol but it won't be in time for this one :-/. At least it will be there for other moms down the road maybe 2+ years from now >.<

  • My mom and her sister both have them and they are stick thin.  I think they're genetic and praying I don't get them.  Kudos to you for still running btw!  I'm out of breath just walking out to get the mail.
  • Thanks it's not eas, but I'm trying haha. I feel great on run days and the rest of the week compared to my first son when I did little to no excersise. So I want to continue for as long as possible.

I am on Tricare and haven't had these experiences.

If I have to go to the ER, I just go. Try to go to a hospital on a base if I can, but if not, so be it. Tricare likes to be notified within 24 hrs.

Why would you have such a lapse in appts? Even PCSing clear across the country during this pregnancy my care was seamless. I brought a copy of my OB records with me during the move and TriNorth confirmed things with TriWest.

Honestly, even though there are hoops to jump through that are sometimes a PITA, our coverage is pretty good for comparatively little money.

  • I have them in the same spot, I find by the end of the day my legs are achy and I get a burning sensation, I had them a bit with DS2, and they just seem to be getting worse.
A friend of mine is a NICU nurse, said the main artery that supplies blood to the legs runs behind the uterus, so they are likely to get worse toward the end.

  • You're very lucky then. I've had all these issues as well as having to pay out of pocket for prenatal care with my son due to never getting a referral. I tried to appeal it and they still wouldn't cover it. I've almost had to pay for taking my son for a very high fever when he was a baby. I notified within 24 hours etc I had to appeal it after having to pay for it. I know I've never had issue with tricare west, but north and south had been horrible for us. I completely agree the coverage is good, but the system needs to be improved.

My mom got the laser treatment done too. She said it was painful but for her it was worth it. I also have them (thanks genetics!) but I'm not overly bothered by them because they are tiny.

Unless its some form of reconstruction from cancer or injury, this is enraging.

Usually, irrational mental breaks aren't something I air on the interwebs. Cause really, you just look Cray. Could have been your FFFC, but instead you felt this needed a whole post so you could get some "omg I know, I'm totes ruined too" responses.

  • That's not the point I'm making....I'm sure I'm not. It's just frustrating is all to work so hard at something anything, and a bump in the road appears. Sorry for venting I guess? *raises eyebrows*
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker
  • I have 'em. I'm not crying. If you saw my mom and grandmother you'd cringe for me knowing what's to come... We all want to look like we're still 23, but it's not happening. Getting old sucks. Nobody said pregnancy was pretty.
  • Well one my son is too young to even care so it's w/e there. I'm already dealing with a deformed stomach to the point a hernia is just waiting to happen, water can't even touch it in the shower. So I'm a little insecure when I have another issue pop up. Like I said sorry to offend everyone, didn't think venting would get everyone's panties in a bunch. Guess people have nothing better to do, but troll on people who felt the need to vent. I've never thought an imperfect body is junk I've always had imperfections my entire life stretch marks for puberty, stretch marks from my son, deformed divet on my stomach, a scar on my face. Soooooo EXCUSEEEEE me for venting. I won't say I'm sorry for doing it. Sorry to those who it offends etc. not trying to belittle anyone else's situation just venting on mine, but if people feel the need to be all high and mighty go for it. The bump in the road is working my ass off for over a year to loose weight to not over indulge to get my lazy pregnant ass up in the morning continue working out, and something that CAN be prevented with excersise I got anyway. I understand it is what it is....won't vent ever again. This board is suppose to be a support is it not, and an issue of body image is serious for some people. You shouldn't be little someone ones personal issue, I can handle it it's w/e just hope a person that is mentally unable never has to deal with this hate storm.
Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker BabyFruit Ticker
  • The divet is a fisher (think of a little belly button and then a huge one above it), I received it after my first son from over active scar tissue. My abs separating again is forming a space for the hernia to form. The skin being soooo thinned out,and becoming even thinner is making the opportunity even easier. My ob says ill have to get seen right after the baby to make sure one does not form.

I'm an emotional venter always have been. I was a very emotional girl when I was younger would cry while doing my own hair. So I guess I'm being punished for the way I'm venting...roger that.

  • I have never said anything like that infront of my son that is why I say he is too young. I HIGHLY doubt he will go around saying I have varicose veins. I had supported ld posts I just haven't comment on the post themselves...sorry. Lol I have been here long enough and I have support small and large. I was raised that everyone has their own issues and never should belittle anyone's issue. That is why I said that. Yes I knew getting pregnant again would mean weight gain, it would mean more stretch marks, and it would mean working from the bottom with my fitness. I'm not naive varicose veins were something I was unaware of. Never received them from my son.

  • There are several people here who are recovering from eating disorders. Me included.. Several of us have body issues. The fact that our bodies change during pregnancy sucks. But that's what happens and we knew it when we started this journey. I knew that I would gain weight. Did I know I'd be up 30lbs at this point-fuck no! Am I bummed? Yeah-kinda. But now I have an excuse to go for walks with my LO in gorgeous spring weather.

And the fact that your son is 3 makes no difference. I have heard a 5 year old refuse to get on the scale "because she is fat". Kids learn very early on.
AND FFS! You've been here long enough-do NOT pull the "we're all here for support" bs. Support some of the ladies who have made trips to L&D if that is what you're here for...because you haven't yet.
The bolded is exactly what I was thinking!

My friends daughter at 5 refused to wear her puffy jacket to school because it made her look "fat." Kids catch on to this stuff way earlier then people think. It's extremely sad.

  • Vericose veins are nothing to cry over. They suck but if thats as bad as it gets I'd count yourself lucky. There are a lot of women had more than a year to get pregnant and many here who are dealing with complications. I know I was recently in LD for preterm labor scared me at only 27 wks.

. I take it you are Tricare Prime? The MTF or your civilian doctor shouldve had you take à pg test. When it came up + then they would contact Tricare to get you under global so you can get pg coverage and for you to see an OB/MW. I was Prime at the start of my sons pg and that was how it worked. I am standard now so I can go where i want, it just is on me to make sure they are in-network.

I get the headaches with referrals, my DS is Prime and I have spent part of the morning on the phone with TriNorth dealing with that, but I have found that once you learn what hoops are there to be jumped through it isnt bad insurance.

Andplusalso, I agree with the other ladies on a whole thread about a normal pregnancy ailment to be a bit much. An EDD buddy of mine on PgAL had her water break and is on hospital bedrest. She is only 28 weeks. Perspective.

  • What I see in those pics are a few scars over 6 pack abs, which you should be very proud of.  But seriously...varicose veins are nothing at all to get upset about.  I got my first when I was in the 5th grade and the only person who ever noticed was me.  I can't even tell you how many I have now and my grandma's legs were like a road map so i definitely know what's in store down the road.  If you take care of yourself and are healthy, which it sounds like you are, then that is what you should be worried about.  Be proud of you battle scars because you earned them though carrying a child!

Again...definitely not something to be upset crying about.  Especially when there are ladies on this board who wish that a few varicose veins where all they had to worry about with their pregnancies.
  • I'm sorry for your scare. Hope you and baby are doing much better. Honesty at this point it's like talking to a brick wall. I've repeated an repeated, if people don't understand so be it. The ones who do understand thank you.
