Are you honestly proposing that just anyone should be able to own a gun?
Any responsible, non-mentally ill adult? Yes.
Well, how do you propose we weed those people out without issuing permits?
Background check at time of sale. AZ (where I live) does not require a permit.
A background check proves you have no criminal record, not that you're responsible and non-mentally ill.
background checks also include whether or not an individual has been committed.
Adam Lanza had never been committed. Had he waited the requisite 14 days for a background check, he would have been able to purchase guns on his own. He was obviously mentally ill.

It was clear that before he did what he did, he was in need of mental help. What we need is a mental healthcare reform.
I'm not trying to refute anyone's right to own guns. The 2nd amendment grants us that and no one's trying to take that right away. I'm just saying the issue is not as black and white as the pro-gun camp makes it out to be. There's more to the conversation than "don't tread on me".

To hell with the girl scout cookies. Give me cookie dough Oreos all day!
Are those worth blowing my calories for the day? I really wanna try them but afraid i wont be able to control myself.
Skip the marshmallow crisp ones, but spend all the grocery budget on the cookie dough!
I don't know, there's a guy from ign.com who does a YouTube show called "Oreo oration", and he said the marshmallow crisp Oreos gave him an oreogasm. I want to try them so bad...but they're not at our stores yet!
MO does a background check if you buy from a store but if you buy it privately, no background check required. No permits required, either. I love my guns. But I have a warning for intruders on my front porch, "This home is protected by the good Lord above and a Beretta. Come in uninvited and you'll meet them both." I always go back to the drunk driver comparison. How many people have been killed due to drunk drivers? Will we outlaw and permit cars and alcohol? How many people drive every day and are driving on a suspended or revoked? Regulations only hurt law abiding citizens. Oh and it bugs the shit out of me when people use the automatic weapon as an example for all guns... No shootings have involved an automatic machine gun - just automatic rifle or a standard pistol. Regulating automatic weapons is fruitless.
AlexJohnson840 LOVE your DD's look Here is my DD a few mins ago. I love that pattern of those baby leggings. Earlier today she had on a headband but when I dressed her for bed it didn't match so it went bye bye
Oh boy a hot topic item with the gun comments. The only thing I feel like I should add to the pro-gun side is living in Oklahoma we do have the Stand Your Ground Law and I fully support it. Let me explain to you why. Most of the people that have to use that as a defense are like the young mother from a nearby town that had to defend herself and her baby as the police could not get there in time to help her from the 2 men bent on breaking in.
Personally I feel very safe knowing that if by the small chance I have to defend myself, my child, and my home I know that 1. I am capable of doing so as I practice and know what I am doing and 2. I won't be charged with murder or any other like charges.
Wouldn't you be covered by self defense in a case where someone was breaking into your home?
Not always, if you wound them and don't kill them they can sue you in the states that don't have stand your ground. That's even if you shoot them in your living room. Also, if they fall outside the door and not in your house, you can't prove they were entering your home. There's has been a few these cases around here. Homeowner lost everytime. Total b.s.!if you ask me.
Um if someone one is in my home, unwelcomed (ie broke in) I promise you I will be aiming to kill them and they'll be dead before they hit the door. My husband, as ex-law enforcement still has a concealed carry permit, we have multiple guns in our home. They are all trigger locked and locked in large gun cases. If we had any suspicions that one of our children had some sort of mental illness the guns would be gone. I don't think that the stand your ground laws are necessary and I do believe they give people a bit too much leeway. I believe in 2nd amendment rights but I also agree that people DO NOT need high powered fully automatic or for that matter semi automatic weapons for "personal protection".

@Herc a person cannot drive a car into a school, college, movie theater, mall, etc and cause mass casualties. I am pro gun and people's right to bare arms but there is absolutely NO NEED for high powered weapons such as the AR-15.you can protect yourself and your home with a pistol or shotgun just fine.

I agree that that's part of the problem.
I think that's a huge piece of the puzzle.
THIS X 1 MILLION.
But Joe, I love my AR-15!
