Indigestion just started up for me and has since kicked into overdrive!

I know there are over the counter things I can take, but does anyone have any home remedies for it?

I have a history of GERD that has pretty much not bothered me and I haven't taken meds for it for a year. Now I just started struggling and I've never had it this bad. Help!!!

Re: Indigestion just started up for me and has since kicked into overdrive!

  • @savannah_girl thanks. Haven't tried that, but I'm suffering. It's actually a little painful. Hoping that it's not going to be an everyday thing.

  • Me tooooo!!! I feel like I have acid running down my throat! I tried tums (since it's just calcium) and that seemed to help. If that stops working Pepcid complete will be my best friend for the next 13 weeks :) good luck to you :)
  • @jlpegg good luck to you, too. Hoping it's not as bad as it has been all day today.
  • Yuck that sounds awful. I second pp- Altoids, ginger...

  • Peppermint candies, Tums or Ginger candies are what I use. Also don't lay down after eating, that helps a lot!
  • Mines been going no for a few weeks now. Tums helps and milk

    It's a BOY

  • Thanks everyone. I will try those things.
  • sorry this is late.

it tastes pretty nasty, but this works for me every time: mix 1 capful of apple cider vinegar in 8-12 oz of water. drink as fast as you can. vinegar is the best acid-neutralizer, so if you can get yourself to chug it down, relief comes quickly. i usually feel better within 5-10 mins.
  • DH has terrible acid reflex from a botched surgery when he was a baby (pyloric stenosis), he takes over the counter max-strength generic brand ranitidine (think the brand name is zantac, but for some reason that doesn't work for him). Best place to buy is Target, the Up & Up brand. He takes it once daily before dinner and it's the only thing that helps.
FTR ranitidine is a category B drug, so no risk in pregnancy.

  • Me too! I had mild heartburn with my first two, but late in pg when the baby was pressing on everything. This time it came back around 22 weeks and can be wicked.

Idiot confession time... I never have indigestion issues otherwise, but we had PeptoBismol in the house, so I took some here and there for the last few weeks. Of course come to find out it contains aspirin and should be avoided during pregnancy. Being the third time around I do not get overly worried about things but feel awful about this mistake. It's not like I chugges a whole bottle at once or even took it contantly over the last few weeks...  as long as I stay away from it from now on things should be okay. Right?

Feels like I am being ridiculous, but my brain is hyper focusing on it this morning...

  • @Jenn81 I'm sure you're fine, but I know how you feel. I would probably feel the same way.

@hhegyesi I just read about apple cider vinegar and was going to try it. Good to know.
I have to admit after I read that I had a few salt and vinegar potato chips to see if vinegar helps. They made me feel better, but the fact that they're fried shouldn't help.
  • @cbrust I can look into that. I should have mentioned that I had an issue with Prilosec and stopped taking it a year ago. I had all kinds of health issues going on and it wasn't until I went to the hospital that I found out my magnesium was depleted which us a side effect from that medication. It makes me nervous so I was trying any home remedy and if it doesn't work I will ask my dr about ranitidine. Thanks
