Hey ladies. I am asking for your support, advice, whatever you can give. My son had his 9 month appointment today and for the first time I heard his doctor say, "I am extremely concerned." When W jumps in his jumperoo or does the whole "supported standing" thing, he is often (mostly) on his tiptoes or the balls of his feet. He doesn't pull up on furniture or scoot along it. He isn't crawling but rolls everywhere.
His doctor said that she "hated to say it, but ..." then mentioned spasticity and the possibility of cerebral palsy. At that point I asked if I should be freaking out (because I was/am freaking out). She said that she "could see that [I] was thinking about wheelchairs and things like that" and shouldn't do that. She referred him to a specialist. I am now waiting for a phone call with a date/time for that appointment.
Has anyone gone through this? I don't even know how to frame what type of advice/thoughts/etc. I am looking for. I don't know what questions to ask, but if you've got any encouraging words/stories/etc., I could use them right about now. TIA.
2/17: The specialist had a cancellation today so we got to see him this afternoon. It was a good appointment. This is what we learned:
- W's gross motor skill development is delayed (not pulling up on things, not pulling himself up to sit, not crawling) but not to the point that the specialist was hearing alarm bells. He pointed out that all babies progress at different rates and W is progressing slowly.
- The doctor expects W to start walking late (18 months) based on where he is now.
- The doctor is having W start physical therapy to help him work on the things mentioned above.
- The doctor doesn't feel we need to be alarmed about cerebral palsy (big sigh of relief).
- W will go back to the specialist in 6 months to monitor his progress.
I am feeling very relieved and look forward to W starting PT soon. I will keep you posted on his progress.
Thank you all for your support. It means a lot to me. I don't know what I would do without our BMB (cheesy, I know, but true).
Re: Trying not to panic UPDATE
Ab is on her tip toes most of the time and doesn't pull to stand or crawl. She is 9mo3days. In the jumperoo they aren't supposed to be flat footed.
Eta I hope that it turns out well!
I know several babies who walked on their toes and all but one corrected themselves without intervention. One needed a quick surgery to correct it but that was when she was over 2 and still had issues..
It is better the doctor is checking things out to make sure all is well but it certainly would freak me out as well.
I'm sorry that your pedi is creating stress where there may be cause for none.
Err on the side of caution and see the specialist, but I'd hold off on freaking out.

I'm sure the specialist will let you know that everything is fine. Good luck!
My LO2 is just a couple of weeks younger than yours and she doesn't crawl really, she has sort of a crawl roll thing that she does. She also stands and jump(eroo)s on her toes and the balls of her feet, which is completely normal at this age.
Inform your pedi that crawling is not even a milestone and that many kids never do it and ask for your records and start looking for a new doc before the 12 month visit.
@caden1206- I do not know of any event that could have triggered CP. What are known triggers?
