Random GTKY Post

The body hair discussion in the UO thread had me thinking.  I have two really odd quirks that I can't explain or get over:

1) I am grossed out by body hair (on my own body) - and I mean I REALLY can't handle being stubbly or prickly.

2) I only like to drink using straws.  I'll drink something without a straw but I don't prefer it....except wine.  Wine does not get a straw :)

So I'm wondering what types of funny quirks you ladies have, if any, and hoping you'll share them!

  • This post thread could get interesting.

When I'm driving and traffic gets rough or it's raining really hard I can't have the radio on and I need people in the car to STFU.

I freaking HATE dry, dusty-feeling hands & feet. Like walking on the beach? Kind of torturous. I have a hard time concentrating on anything until I can get my feet wet & rehydrated. As a lass I cashiered at Home Depot & I could not work without a damp paper towel near me because touching dusty things like bags of cement made my skin crawl. If I accidentally touched a bag a certain way (like in a way that dragged over the dust) I would relive the feeling over and over. I also didn't like when my shoes scraped the dusty foam mats we stood on.

I absolutely love ice. I always have to have a ton of ice in my drinks. My favorite is the kind of ice at sonic.

Adults who don't know how to chew with their mouth close really piss me off

    It's a BOY

I have a legit phobia of baby wipes. They make me gag. I have to drop everything when I see one because my hands go all prickly. I'm freaked out by the fact that they're pre-moistened. Basically in 11 weeks time, I am fucked.
I have this, but with coupon books. Like the ones you get from BJ's or Sams Club.... I can't stand touching the pages I don't know what it is. That and things made of foam.

I don't eat the outer edges of anything. Bread, pancakes, waffles, English muffins..

I also HATE listening to people eat. I have actually had to eat in a separate room before because DH's chewing makes me want to scream. It's really really hard to deal with at work in the lunch room lol.

I guess my quirks are food related ;)
This 100%.  I'm terrified of having a hospital roommate because what if they're a loud chewer?  Or a slurper?  Or a gum smacker?  Omg I can't deal with it.

Wait, you have to have a hospital roommate? I'm not 100% sure, but I THINK my L&D rooms are private... and they freaking better be because I will hit someone that is an annoying chewer...

Get out of my head! My girlfriends laugh at me bc I shave every.single.time I shower. I also get grossed out if my husband tries to touch my legs or something and I haven't had a chance to shower yet. I am with you on the straws too, except I have to add beer to the "no-straw" list.

I only eat M&Ms, Skittles, and other multi-colored candies by color.
I first separate them and then eat the excess ones so they are all the same size, and then start with red and eat all the way to the end of the rainbow.... I think I have OCD.... hahaha

I also HATE it when I'm wearing a sweatshirt and the hood strings are uneven... and when my shoes are tied at different tightnesses... yep... pretty sure I'm OCD...
I eat my candies by same colored pair one for each side of my mouth but not in a particular order.

I hate the sound of cotton balls being pulled.

Just switched OBs which means we have to switch hospitals.  The new hospital is smaller and more personal and while they try to give everyone their own private room, it's not a guarantee.  That's making me more anxious than actual L&D.

They have been redoing their maternity ward and are still working on adding more private rooms. Just keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get one of them.

    I hate beer.  Lol.
  • I can't stand seeing people with dirty ears. Seriously, there is no reason in the world why an adult should have ear wax coming out of their ears. Yuck!

  • I only eat things in even numbers. If you try to give me 3 cookies, I will give you 1 back. I hate when anyone grabs my wrists when playing around - so I would not do well being arrested. I hate breathing on myself. I usually sleep face down but I have to have my shoulders covered so my breath doesn't blow on me. This is just to name a few - I have tons of them.

  • I can't stand the feeling of sand paper on my hands or using a nail file on my nails. I'm fine if I go get a manicure and someone else files my nails but I can't do it myself.
  • Yes to mouth sounds/chewing/smacking/sucking. UGHHHH. I actually have a physical, flight reaction to it.

Also, when people rub their bare feet together. I find it absolutely repulsive. I also hate when I can only hear faint music/bass noises. I'd rather just hear it blasting.

So, I guess I have a sound thing.

  • I don't sit on a toilet unless it is my own house.  Ever.

    I don't drink out of water fountains...gross.

I only eat one item on my plate at a time- in a clockwise order...

  • I have a thing with my neck. Do not put your hands anywhere near my neck, I can't handle it. Whenever my SO stands behind me and puts his arm around me (like just under my chin), I always hold onto his arm with my 2 hands!

You can have mine.  In restaurants I always ask for no ice in my water.  In someone's house, she was offering to get me a bottle of refrigerated water or a glass with ice and I said something like "tap water is fine; I like it tepid."  :)

Ha I do this too but only when I order juice or iced tea.  However, I ask for ice on the side.  Otherwise they fill the glass with mostly ice, hardly any drink, charge you $3 and then you have to keep getting it refilled which is annoying.
  • Super ditto to having my food touch, and people not using their turn signals!
I also get road rage when people are in front of me and need to turn and they come to a complete stop when there is no one coming in the opposite direction.
I can't leave my phone charger plugged in by the bed when I'm not using it.
I have an irrational fear that the bathtub is going to fall through the ceiling.
I always want to pay in exact change, and get flustered when I can't.
And everything OCD related definitely applies to me.

Jaywalkers are a huge peeve of mine, especially the people in front of my work who wait to jaywalk when there's a stop light with crosswalk one block away from them ON BOTH SIDES!

I have a problem with ambiguity.  By which I mean, if there's any wiggle room on what something means, then it's wiggling for me instead of being a definite "this is what this means" kind of statement.

If the walls are totally blank, I feel a bit lost, like the room has no actual shape.  I feel like a mole in a comfy nest or something if I've got the walls just covered in everything that catches my fancy.  (which drives DH nuts, so he designates areas that he's ok with me taping things up, and I try to restrain my impulses and only put up relatively a few things so it feels like home.  I actually have photos of the last room I had in college, and it was basically a 4-wall collage.)

If I'm close to finishing a book and don't already have another book started or at least picked out to start, that's a horrible feeling.  Also, I simply must read a series in order.  It doesn't matter if the books are 'stand alone' so you're not supposed to need to read the whole series.  I just have to read them in order.  Even when I'm rereading, I will usually reread the whole series in order.

That truly is annoying.  Really though I just like my drinks not so cold, and I don't want to deal with ice, especially ice without a straw.
  • I hate peas, raisins and olives to the point that I will pick every single one out of a dish before I eat it.  It is so ingrained that I actually did this on my first date with DH and didn't even realize it until there was a pile of peas on the side and I thought, he's going to think I'm some weirdo and never call again!  Luckily he did!

I hate traffic circles and yield signs, mostly because no one knows what to do at them and I've had many near misses.  There is a yield sign at a traffic circle near my house and people either go when they should yield or stop when they should go.

  • I can't stand to have my hair pulled. It makes me fighting mad...even if it's an accident.

Chewing, crunching ice, snapping gum puts me over the edge too.

I HATE sand and glitter....I don't like going to the beach and even though I'm a kindergarten teacher, we use as little glitter as possible. You can never get rid of either thing!
  • I thought of two more:

    1) I'm never 100% certain about things.  98% is the highest I'll go.  This is a side effect of taking philosophy classes in college.  (The people who say "question everything" have probably never actually tried that.  It's horrible.)

    2) In addition to being very ticklish in the normal way, some sounds also tickle.
  • I hate feet. I don't want to see your feet, have them anywhere near me, and when MH tries to jokingly touch me with his feet..no...I flip the fuck out, every time. Nasty.
  • I can't stand watching kids wiggle their loose teeth!

I am also not a fan of DH touching me with his feet. Gross.

When I eat, I eat one thing at a time. I don't go back and forth between items. So for example: first just corn then when I'm done with that I go to the next thing. I don't like mixing things.

When I go to restaurants, I always order the same thing every time.

These are both me! (Edited because my phone is freaking out and not "quoting correctly)
  • Here's a fun one for a mom to be...

I cannot stand having baby slobber on me. I can't really handle anyone slobbering- but babies/toddlers are the worst offenders (followed closely by dogs Ew). I follow them around with burp cloths and bibs to wipe off the drool and fully expect to live with a burp cloth permanently attached to my shoulder for the first year of baby's life. Yuck yuck yuck. Poop explosions are cake compared to teething baby drool.

  • I'm the same as @jennish11, I divide colored candies by color, then make sure they all have the same amount and then eat them in pairs.

I also hate odd numbers, my TV volume can never be on an odd number.

The sound of clipping finger/toe nails grosses me out.

I hate socks, shoes, slippers, etc. I would go bare foot year round if I could.
