I couldn't agree more! It makes me embarrassed to live in Florida.
I'm sick of all th posts making fun of the south for shutting down due to weather. I'll admit I used to roll my eyes about all their closings since I'm from New England and not much shuts us down. However, I have a lot more sympathy now after hearing about all those kids trapped at schools and people abandoning their cars during the last storm. Even a little snow and ice must be scary if you have no infrastructure to help you stay safe.

I'm from the south and the problem is, if people would be smarter about things and stay home like they are told there wouldn't be as many problems. You get these people who think "oh I have a big pick up with 4x4 I'm fine" and they go out and drive stupidly. If people would respect the fact that they can't drive the way they do when it's dry we'd have a lot less issues. So I make fun because a lot (not all) of the issues are avoidable by using your brain.
I always thought I would feel bad leaving LO and going to the gym or going to get my nails done, etc. BUT I DONT!! I'm happy to see him when I get home but I don't feel guilty and I don't really miss him that horribly. Probably helps that he is always left with family that I totally trust.

Agreed.
TBH I don't understand why so many people are passionate about 'the right to bear arms', unless of course they are talking about wearing a sleeveless top.
I think people have forgotten the purpose of the 2nd amendment. It's not for people to run around waving guns because they have the right to. The 2nd amendment was put into place so citizens would have the option and ability to stand up to a tyrannical government should it come to that. I am a gun owning citizen but I don't tote it around, advertise it, or keep it loaded. I would not stand for my right being taken away because guns don't kill people. Irresponsible people kill people and would with or without guns.

Here in AL during the last storm, it had nothing to do with people not being smart in the snow...it had to do with incredibly inaccurate forecasts, very late school closures with too little notice and half a million people heading home at the same time on roads that were already impassable at the time. Now add to all that, we had no sand/salt equipment bc it has been sent down south to help them {they got no snow!}, hills and mountains everywhere in our city and then the inexperience of most of the drivers and you have Snowpocalypse!

So I have a question for you...when your child grows up and is shown to have mental health issues, what do you plan to do with your guns? Because a responsible gun owner can raise irresponsible gun users as we've seen.
I think I'm going to get my LO 'a ears pierced at 3 months . Yep I never thought I would do it this early post pregnancy but I think we are going to do it .

If I had a child with mental health issues not only would I get them the needed help, but I would have my guns either locked up where they do not have access (in a safe) or I would get rid of them. That is part of being a responsible gun owner. But that is really not something that happens all the time. Out of all the gun owners in the US this is a small percentage. You just hear about it more because those are the people who end up on the news, not the people who use guns responsibly. It's not the governments job to tell me how to live and that is kind of the point.
I also believe people have a right to bare arms. I think you should have the right to protect yourself, family, home, etc. but there is absolutely no reason to have an automatic riffle that shoots a millions rounds per second (obvious exaggeration). I get that it's fun and people use them as hobbies but so is car racing and it's not legal to drive 100+ mph. Yes, people kill people not guns but unfortunately these people use guns to do their dirty work. There is no reason to allow them access to weapons that can do the maximum damage.

Oh boy a hot topic item with the gun comments. The only thing I feel like I should add to the pro-gun side is living in Oklahoma we do have the Stand Your Ground Law and I fully support it. Let me explain to you why. Most of the people that have to use that as a defense are like the young mother from a nearby town that had to defend herself and her baby as the police could not get there in time to help her from the 2 men bent on breaking in.
Personally I feel very safe knowing that if by the small chance I have to defend myself, my child, and my home I know that 1. I am capable of doing so as I practice and know what I am doing and 2. I won't be charged with murder or any other like charges.
Wouldn't you be covered by self defense in a case where someone was breaking into your home?

I really hope this is not unpopular. It will be a loooooong life if not. You should see how fast I run out the door when I have a chance to escape and get ME time! I wonder if it's possible to be in the negative when it comes to the amount of guilt I have

This. And I also want to add that my uncle who was an arms instructor says that a can of wasp and hornet spray is a far more effective weapon for home defense by untrained users; you can be far less accurate at a greater range, a can of it is cheap, and if you spray it in someone's eyes he isn't going to see until he gets some medical attention.

I have no problem with guns. Unless you're dumb as hell like my mil and just have them everywhere you look in her house. Oh the anxiety it gives me. You literally could open any drawer or cabinet and find a gun. She's a fucking idiot. And DH thinks we're going to send the kids down to fl for summers with her when they get a little older. Fuck. No. DH and I are gun owners, have our pistol permits and keep our guns not loaded in our safe at all times. It's really only for protection just in case anything actually did happen. I guess what I'm trying to say is I agree with the right to bear arms but not with dumb peoples irresponsibility with it.

Oh ok, that makes sense@sunshine. We don't have a SYG law here in CT so I'm not familiar with it.
@mmc0323 that is scary. We are going to have to have a talk with my father because he has guns hidden all over the house too (but not as bad as your mil). DH and I will also have to reevaluate our set up. It was ok when it was just the two of us but once DS gets more independent we have go secure things much better. Kids are crafty.

Using deadly force when someone is breaking into your home is not the same as refusing to retreat or evade in a public place, or a place where the "defendant" has the right to be. I think the castle doctrine refers to using force in your own home.
@lp0198. Kids are crafty!! And ds1 is so into everything that we have to have it that way! I found him hanging on his closet top shelf the other day. I'm guessing he climbed his dresser and jumped. He's fearless. It's terrifying. We actually used to not keep them in a safe as well, but once ds turned 2 we figured it was time.

I'm definitely with you. DS is so crafty that he can't be left unattended for even a second. We actually have a hidden huge gun safe behind a wall downstairs that the previous owners never told us about. Unfortunately it's not easily accessible (especially if we're asleep upstairs). DH was actually going to make it a toy storage closet for DS. We'll have to figure something out upstairs that works.

I'm scared of guns. Irrationally so probably. My dad had them hidden everywhere in our house but they will never be allowed in my home. He left an antique one that is so old you can't get bullets for it to my husband. Though he asked me first to make sure he wasn't going to end our marriage via his will.
My UO is I hate the 'strong is the new skinny' fitspo bullshit. Annoys the crap out of me. It would be one thing if the memes contained an actual strong girl like Holley Mangold but they always show girls that are still skinny just with a little more muscle than say Kate moss.

HOLLEY MANGOLD IS AMAZING. Popular opinion, I hope.
I totally disagree with the whole baby legging are ridiculous thing!! I actually ordered some of the boys ones. Brady is gonna rock the shit out of them. And as @cashingn2 said, it keeps them warm without the whole pants off, pants on ordeal.
My UO is I much prefer baby boys clothes! Everyone seems to think I should be so pumped to buy DD all these adorable clothes I couldn't buy DS, but the truth is I like the boys ones better! I was online shopping today and got so confused, what with the bubble shorts, leggings/tights/etc, and bloomers. I think dresses might be cute someday but seem so impractical right now. Anyway, boring UO, but I love my boy clothes!!!
I think baby leggings are ridiculous.
I also find it hard to respect people who smoke around children.
Baby leggings keep my baby warm and allow me to use the leg-less onesies she has. Otherwise, this winter, I'd be washing the same five footie pajamas every single day.
I KNOW this will be an unpopular opinion: I think big headbands and bows on babies is ridiculous. I KNOW, I KNOW YOU ALL LOVE THEM. My MIL and SIL think I'm a jerk for this reason, too (and probably because I hate pink and about 10,000 other reasons).
I'm not talking about little headbands. I'm talking more like this:

@northport - I adore Holley mangold, like want to stalk her until she agrees to be my BFF. Her true life episode was so good, I was on the edge of my seat watching her competition. And that was an mtv program lol
