What are you reading?

I'm an admitted book hoarder, if I didn't go to the library, book store or download anything for my kindle I could probably have enough reading material for at least 2 years already laying around my house. So really, I shouldn't be getting any ideas from anyone about what to read next, I have plenty ;) I just finished Labor Day last week (enjoyed it, though a little heavy and I won't be seeing the movie while pregnant) and am flying through Divergent now (totally love and want to see the movie).

What are you reading?

  • My friend just sent me Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. It's funny and the dirty truth about pregnancy and delivery.

  • I just finished Gone Girl. I liked it. It was an easy fast read. I read while on vacation and it helped pass the time on the plane. I like the authors writing style a lot.

My book club read gone girl last year... Holy crap that was one F-ed up book! Fun discussion book though.

  • @k&m9, I have I Know This Much Is True sitting on my nightstand to read next-is it good??

I am reading This Is Where I Leave You right now. It's pretty good and supposedly the movie comes out with Jason Bateman and Tina Fey later this year.

  • I'm in the middle of Dark Places by Gillian Flynn right now.  So far I'm liking it.  I just finished The Death of Bees and The Maze Runner.  The Death of Bees was pretty good and I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did.  The Maze Runner is teen fiction and a similar feel to the Divergent series.  I wanted to know the secrets, and once I did at the end of the book, I have no desire to read any more books in the series (should they come out... seems like it's set up for it).  Speaking of Divergent, I LOVED the first and second books of the series.  Even though I was warned not to, I read the third and was really disappointed.  I would advise you to skip it, but if you're anything like me you will ignore my advise anyway and read it to get closure.

  • I just started reading The Road, but I'm not enjoying it.  I may just give up.  I have a bunch of books on my To Read shelf on Goodreads, I just need to put them on my Kindle.

I recently finished Wool, which was pretty good.

The Divergent series is awesome!  I can't wait to see the movie.  However, I'm already annoyed because in the previews she's wearing too much makeup, I was so distracted by her clumpy mascara.

  • For a light read I recently enjoyed Where'd You Go Bernadette. I'm working through The Goldfinch now--I accidentally pre - ordered it in hard copy and had forgotten how inconvenient it is to read a large, heavy book instead of a kindle.
  • I loved the divergent series too!! @mdarmetko, without giving anything away to those who haven't read it yet, the third book wasn't my favorite, but I saw an interview with the author about book three and I appreciate it more now and understand her rationale. @blckroses- I am so excited for the movie too but she does have too much make up. I think the actor playing Four looks like a good fit though!

I just finished up from the grave and started the invention of wings. Gone girl was one of my favorite books of the past year all of flynns books are a great read.

  • I just finished the Divergent series. I thought it was pretty good. I knew Shailene Woodley was playing Tris so I pictured her as I read the books. For Tobias, in my mind, I just assumed he would be played by Alex Pettyfer. About halfway through book 2 I decided to look up the cast and I was irrationally irritated that he is not in the movie.

I am now reading the Harry Potter series out of boredom.

  • I started The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. I usually love Jodi's books but I just can't get into this one.

I'm also reading A Bend In The Road by Nicholas Sparks. It's a quick, easy read.

I know I'm the exception on this, but I absolutely hated Gone Girl. I don't know if there's a book I have ever hated more, although We Need to Talk About Kevin is pretty close.

  • I read Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. It was funny but kinda short. I am currently finishing Chicken Soup for the Expectant Mother's Soul. It's good, but prepare to cry sometimes. I also got a book from my clinic for pregnancy and it's a big week by week one! Non-pregnancy related, I just finished the entire Divergent series, I was happy with it overall but book one is definitely the best it gets. I also loved The Fault in Our Stars by John Greene I believe was his name.... and the Breathe series, but I don't remember the author's name :)

  • I'm slowly slogging through the 4th Song of Ice & Fire/Game of Thrones book. Can only seem to manage a chapter a night before I'm ready to sleep, so it's been a slow reading process. I have a bazillion books on my bookshelves that I still need to read so the fact that it takes me forever to read these books drives me crazy.

I had trouble reading them, but listening to them on my iPod was great.

I just finished reading The Bear, by Claire Cameron. It made quite an impression on me. It's told from the perspective of a six year old girl, who is left to take care of her little brother after her parents are killed by a bear during a camping trip. It takes a few pages to get used to the language, but I really enjoyed it.

Omg, The Road. I had to put the book down once I got to a part in the middle where things were looking up. I still have no idea how it ends, but it was taking such a toll on me, I just couldn't keep going. That's the problem with getting so emotionally involved in fictional novels, lol. DRAINING.
Honestly, I'm like 3 pages in and I just can't get into it.  I think I need something uplifting and then I can try it again.

I seriously cannot believe no one has mentioned this book yet.

Im reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

AH.MAZ.ING. I absolutely recommend it. (Im reading it for the TTGP book club haha). I just started it and Im already 25% into it an on Part II. I just cannot put it down.

I just finished The Storyteller, and am nearly done with Labor Day, but I just can't get into that one as easy as The Night Circus.

For a light read I recently enjoyed Where'd You Go Bernadette. I'm working through The Goldfinch now--I accidentally pre - ordered it in hard copy and had forgotten how inconvenient it is to read a large, heavy book instead of a kindle.
I'm also reading The Goldfinch- actually, listening to it on Audible.  What a sad but beautiful tale.  I also loved Where'd You Go Bernadette.

I also LOVED The Night Circus, probably my favorite book as of late. I didn't want it to end.  Beautiful.  I also really liked The Orchardist, by Amanda Coplin (although perhaps not the best read while pregnant).

(edited because I read the rest of the posts and there was Night Circus!).

Oh man. Agreed. I actually paid 17 dollars on Amazon for that monstrosity, and couldn't even sit all the way through it. Just God-awful.

My Mom always gives me books for Christmas (she knows me well :) ) This year she got me A Discovery of Witches trilogy, so I'm working my way through that. It's alright. After I finish that I am going to try to read Anna Karenina. I've been promising my Dad I'll read it for years. I try to read one piece of literature for each two or three "new" books that I read.
  • Also- if anyone wants a suggestion for my favorite book of all time: Exodus, by Leon Uris

This is going to sound weird, but I'm a HUGE nerd about WWII. I have always loved reading and learning about it. (Does that make me morbid?) Anyways, this book is about the history of Israel, fictionalized (although Uris always bases his characters on real people). It has just so much raw emotion, depth, and is just so beautifully written that I read it over and over again.

Another one of his books that I like is Mila 18, which is about the Warsaw Ghetto and the Jewish resistance (Headquartered at 18 Mila St)
