Graco child car seat recall/vent

In regards to the car seat recall...In an e-mailed statement, Graco said it "identified that food and dried liquids can make some harness buckles progressively more difficult to open over time or become stuck in the latched position." WELLLLL DUHHHHH.....prompt cleaning of your car seats might help if your kid spills food or drink all over it. This is just yet another reason to add to our list of 'why we don't let our kids eat in the car'. Keep your car seats clean people ::sigh:: I think it's so bogus...our child car seats were included in the recall but we never let him eat in our cars (besides SMALL snacks like cheerios or drink water) just for the fact the we don't want our cars getting ruined and our car seat has been completely fine. Sorry for venting...just seems like a stupid reason that people got sue happy over because their dirty carseats arent unlatching "properly". Of course if you let something get dirty enough it won't work properly.... What are your thoughts?? If you don't agree with me and want to flame... Flame away ;) but here's the full article. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/02/11/graco-recall/5396939/

  • I think anytime a products safety is compromised by normal activities, a recall is necessary. I don't think it's about a bunch of parents getting lawsuit fever and sueing. We pay good money for these products and I expect them to function as intended, especially when it comes to my child.

  • They are sending out replacement latches and advice on how to keep them clean...ehhh I was venting. We do pay good money for these products and that's reason enough to keep them clean in the first place. But like I said it was my 2 cents to the pile. No one has to agree with me :)
  • I honestly think blaming it on food or drink in the latch is a cop-out.  I think it's their way of glossing over a safety hazard and shaking off some of the responsibility.  So, yeah, keep your car seat clean... but to the companies: make stuff that's safe for normal child use, too.

  • I understand where the vent is coming from. There have been a few things that my sister had recomended to me because they were great for her fussy baby, but now I can't get it because of recalls. I can't remember what one of them was called exactly. It was a mattress that you set on the floor when you are around the baby and let them eat in it or just relax right after a meal to prevent gas and so forth. A lot of parents left their LO's unattended and a few ended up flipping over in it. Pay attention to your babies! Please!

  • I agree totally. The other thing is that if it was a sure dire issue to get the child out of the seat for the buckle being stuck use a knife. Everyone on my Facebook is blowing up about how upset they are that they can't drive until they receive the replacement. I've been a firm believer that you should ALWAYS have a punch out knife in the car at all times, which include a seat belt cutter and a knife. We leave on in the car and truck no matter what. So honestly I see the point of getting the new part but honestly it's not the BIGGEST issue. If it were the latch not staying fastened I'd be more worried.

EXACTLY!! We keep one in our car too. I could understand if everyone was in a tizzy over them NOT staying latched. The seats latch just fine. Just get stuck from being dirty. People just need to order the replacement part and move on. My newsfeed has BLOWN up about this...
