My husband had never until our daughter was born. I'm thankful that he took on the duties...I honestly can't stand to hear/read about the poor ladies with husbands who refuse to do certain things like change #2 diapers, etc.
My DH hasn't either so don't feel too nervous. It's sink or swim and I'm sure they will all swim (or at least- sink and then learn to swim eventually). My Dr. recommended that we do a birthing class that our hospital runs- we signed up. It's only $90 for 7 weeks- the first 5 weeks are lamaze and the last 2 are infant care. I've had some nay-sayers that say its a waste of money, but I figure even if DH or I learn just a little bit for L&D or baby care- it will be worth it. Anything that gives me some piece of mind at this point. Try looking into something like that if you're nervous!
I have never changed a diaper, and honestly, I don't even know if I have ever held a baby. Maybe they put my baby cousin on my lap when I was 10 years old or something... but in my adult life, no one I know has babies. I've been around tons of school-age children but none younger than 2.
DH, on the other hand, has found himself around enough babies over the years to be totally comfortable with all of it.
On a related note, I sometimes am in awe over just how unprepared I am to take a child home. I'm winging the whole pregnancy thing, too.
Mine has never changed a diaper, held a bottle or bathed anyone but himself. His first diaper and bath exposure what me making him being around as I changed and bathed my niece so he at least knew kind of what goes on. My sister also handed my niece to him when she was maybe 4 months old and he had to ask if he was doing it right.
I'm not worried about him, he will figure it out and is a hands on learner. He doesn't want to spend money on a class so I figure I'll be giving him a crash course with a baby doll towards the end of pregnancy lol. I'll be around, as will my parents so he can keep trying and ask questions until he understands everything.
Don't stress over it. Before dd, my husband had never held a baby or changed a diaper and he became a pro in about a day and a half. I gave him like a 10-15 minute run through on each before she came so he could feel slightly competent at the hospital, but he will catch right on and you will build so many memories!
Trigger Warning (LC and loss) --
Married May 2008
Beautiful daughter Alyssa born April 23, 2011
Precious son Isaac born at 34 weeks in April 27, 2014 with Potters Syndrome Type 4 and Down Syndrome - trusted into the arms of Jesus after 3 hours.
Pregnant again! Due August 8, 2015 please be healthy, little one!
(results on 2/4/15 showed no Down's and it's a girl!)
My H hasn't changed a ton of diapers. I watched him change his first one almost two years ago and since then I'd say we could count on our fingers how many times its happened. Diapering isn't that hard, he'll do fine!
Am I the only one who thinks its weird when people expect me to change their kid's diaper when I'm over visiting?
Wtf? That's definitely weird. I would never expect someone else to wipe my kid's butt when they were over!
Happens every time we visit family or my BFF. Apparently people a) think we need practice and b) think they deserve "a break" from doing it. Gag me.
Eta: My favorite is when someone looks at us and says "this is going to be a bad one- it's all yours!!!" with glee. I finally spoke up in December and told BIL that I have change more diapers than he has and have fun with that one, it's all yours. He then looked at H and I cut him off and reminded him that with two on the way we'd have more than enough diapers of our own.

We had zero experience. I skipped the child birth class and took the infant care one..might not have uncovered all these hidden gems of info but it definitely gave us a certain comfort level! Just small stuff..like car seat safety, umbilical cord care, etc..stuff I might have been able to look up but it was nice to get it first hand from someone!
My H hasn't either. He is pretty worried about poopy diapers but I have assured him he will get over it quickly. He HAS to. Haha.
He really doesn't have too much experience with babies in general. We were with some new friends the other day who have a 6 month old boy. DH held him and played with him to get some practice in. It was pretty cute.
The first - and probably last? - time I changed a diaper, I was 12, babysitting one of my cousins, and no one really showed me how to do it before hand. I'm fairly certain DH has never changed one, possibly never even watched someone change one. I figure diapers are pretty straightforward.
That said... I have a dog! Perhaps we should practice... Thanks for sharing the video @joules235! Hilarious!

DH has never changed a diaper or even held a baby. Hopefully they go over the basics of everything in one of our classes. He is willing though, and open to cloth, so that's a good start.
Before DD my DH was in the same boat. My SIL actually sent him an article from a magazine with a step-by-step on how to change a diaper, which I hung on my fridge and laughed at every time I saw it. He got the hang of it pretty quickly!
After 3 failed Clomid+TI cycles, DD was conceived with IUI#1
Well my hubby has changed many diapers. He is one of six ad the youngest so he has helped with his nieces and nephews.
Now the funny part me on the other hand. I so not remember ever changing a diaper. I was an only child til I was 17 and then off to college so was not around. I didn't have anyone that was very young around me.
So my hubby keeps saying he will be teaching me and I bet he will be. Lol. I held my hubby's nephews baby at 2 weeks old over a year ago. First time holding that young of a baby mmmm ever maybe!!
I just turned 40 so I am a few years ahead of your hubby.
Sad part is I have helped many puppies and some kittens after c sections. Worked on a puppy for 45 mins helping it survive. That I could do in my sleep.
Human baby not so much. I have a lot of learning to do.

DH never changed a diaper until the DS was born, it was while were were still in the hospital. He was so nervous. It's very easy, I think it's just that he thought DS was more fragile than glass. He only held a baby a couple of times before that too. Anytime anyone made him hold one, he looked so awkward. He isn't comfortable holding a baby unless it's his own.
