Are these stretch marks?

I'm attaching a photo of what may or may not be stretch marks. Someone please tell me if you have them too. In real life they feel smooth and almost look like there are veins under them. I only have them on the side muffin top area. Some days they look redder than others, and I've had them for about 5 weeks now. They don't seem to be getting any worse. My body puzzles me..

Re: Are these stretch marks?

  • I think so, but it is hard to tell from the pictures.

  • Unfortunately, those look exactly like the first ones I got.  Same placement, color, size everything.

  • Yup. Welcome to the club. Those are actually pretty tame. Mine are a super dark purple/red when they first appear.
  • Thanks ladies. I'm usually palmers and keeping them moisturized. Is there any wonderful or secret creams I should know about?
  • Using palmers I meant..
  • I think so. When mine first started I initially thought it was a bruise. Looked just like one, until it went from a single one to an entire railroad

  • @amberlowe08 just keep on keepin' on with your Palmers or any other heavily moisturizing lotion. I personally love pure almond oil.

  • I use a body mist by PureRomance.  It's used after your shower and it's got some oils in it that are fantastic, smell good, and helps with your skins elasticity.

I use Mederma to help with the appearance after they show up.

FYI:  Stretch marks are caused by stretching of the dermis which is the second layer of the skin. Creams cannot penetrate down to the dermis. The amount and degree of stretch marks depend on the speed of stretch and the genetics of the person (their own skin factors, as opposed to their family history).

  • That's where mine started with my first pregnancy and then just spread to the rest of my belly. I used stretch mark cream twice a day to no avail.

  • I've been using bio oil and palmers together! Its not preventing them but I definitely think it helps them soften their look. And the ones I already had are fading too.. Woohoo
  • Yep, looks like mine. I haven't gotten any new ones this time, but my first pregnancy gave me a ton. No magical solution, if you get them you get them. Mine did fade and shrink eventually. Welcome to the club!
  • Looks exactly like the ones I have on my sides. My inner and outer thighs are BAD! It's so depressing but I know it's worth it. I've been using palmers, a lotion, creme and butter. I know it doesnt prevent then but it's "supposed" to help them fade. We will see.
  • I would say yes they are. I was in denial when my first one appeared, but seriously after dd, some days you could not even see them!
  • Yup.  Welcome to the club.
