What Was Your "It Just Got Real" Moment

I just had mine - over the stupidest thing! - and it got me wondering what your "it just got real" moment was. Big revelations or insignificant events, it doesn't matter! Let's share ladies!

Mine was yesterday. DH told me on Saturday that I needed to start thinking about what car models I'd want to test drive. He said he wanted to take advantage of the President's Day sales that were sure to come up, so I needed to start narrowing down my choices for the family car. (I drive a tiny blue two-door. It was my first car we'd paid for together, I've had it forever, and everyone knows my car because it's a very distinctive blue. I love my little zippy car! But there's no WAY a car seat will fit in that thing.)

For whatever reason I was thinking President's day was a while down the road still. (Probably because I'm oblivious to the fact that we're halfway through February already!!!) So when I gave DH my list yesterday and told him I'd start test driving over the next few weeks, he looked at me strangely and said,

"Babe, President's day is next Monday."

"......."

"So.....you'll need to go test drive all of these this week."

"..........."

"Babe?"

".....You mean a week from now I'll be driving.........a mom car to work?"

"(Laughs) Looks that way."

Cue freak out. For whatever reason, facing the reality - no longer just a theoretical reality - of giving up my little car for a boat on wheels made this all very, very real for me. Stupid, I know. Who knew a little car could be so life-changing?

Ditto! Occasionally getting a glance of the bassinet in my room makes me go - wow in 2 months there will be a baby in there... but its still to hit me that I'm pregnant, let alone going to be a mum!!!

Mine was when looking at the expiration date on something we bought from the grocery store was the day before our due date!

When I clipped the tags from any baby clothing and washed them this weekend, I was folding baby clothing...it was bizarre.

I did it to myself. Went shopping this weekend with my mom to get coming home clothes. Found a cute outfit for either sex, then said- oh, baby will need socks, it's still cold out next month. NEXT MONTH!!! (I'm due 4/5, but will likely be induced a week early- TBD after BPP)

Probably this past weekend. We did some serious van shopping and will probably be picking one up within the week. Also, DH finally decided that it's time to get ready for this kid. I think because reality finally hit for him, its hit me too that Logan will be here soon.

And when I woke up this morning I looked over at DS and also had that thought of "how am I going to have time for 3 kids and love them all equally". In reality I know that I will...I had these same thoughts when I was pregnant with #2.

This is my fear constantly. I begin to feel bad for my DD. I am afraid she is going to be left out, or feel left out. She is the center of everyones attention right now... It worries me so much...

We have the stroller, the crib, the carseat, lots of cute little clothes--- I just don't have MY actual awareness. I am at 28 weeks....so maybe it hits later? the delivery room...

I did a load of baby laundry this weekend too.. This may be a dumb question but do the tags have to be cut off??

@rlmanning Its a common fear that I think all STM+ feel at some point. I will say that from experience, I do know that our hearts will grow and with in days it will feel like the new addition has always been a part of the family. You'll find your new rhythm in no time.

the hospital tour was kind of a "this is real" moment just because i started to think about the fact that i am 2 months away from being in that hospital... But i think my big "this is real moment" will come a couple different times.. one when i am sitting at home after the two in a row baby showers i am having on the 1st and 2nd and i have a house full of baby stuff, then another when its end of march and i have done nothing to really prepare for baby as i am a total procrastenator. and the real "this is really happening" will be when i am in labor!

it will get VERY real the day we install the infant seat next to kiddo's seat in the car. that will happen within the next month or so.

Nothing yet! I thought it would be when I passed 29 weeks, but no. I think it might be when I go into labor.

Getting the stroller and car seat delivered and put together made it feel more real but after struggling with infertility and TTC this LO for almost 2 years it still doesn't feel real all the time!
@baileymama3 I'm like you! Still surprised/caught off guard by my reflection when I walk past a mirror.

That's funny, we were test driving cars this weekend to replace my own zippy, two door, blue car! We're also looking at a couple of houses on Friday. And over the last couple of days she has dropped, big time. It's slowly getting real...and it's going to be a very hectic 10 weeks.

When I popped into the TV room on Sunday whilst cooking dinner, to find my OH trying to wrangle my cat into a newborn body suit... Apparently he was trying to prove to me that the body suit was too big to be for a newborn baby but what actually happened was it fitted perfectly (except his tail was smooshed out a leg hole) and my OH ended up holding him like a baby (my cat loves this) and I looked at his little furry bottom in this white bodysuit and realised there was going to be a baby in it soon! Lol! Wish I had a picture of him in the suit but it didn't last long before he got bored and we had to take it off!

Oh and funny side note: I work in a furniture store-- most of our stuff takes anywhere for 6-14 weeks to come in. A lady ordered an ottoman on Friday and after helping here with everything, etc...I was like and that will be in the first week of May.....and I started laughing. I was like, " wow, I am probably going to have my baby before you have this!" BUT still hasn't "officially" hit.

I'm 32 weeks and still haven't had it. When I'm sitting I don't find that I feel any different than pre-pregnancy. It still feels weird when the baby moves. I make various purchases for the baby, but it still seems surreal. I keep wondering if I'll need to actually go into labour before things get real.

30 weeks tomorrow and i haven't had mine yet and i have a feeling it may not be until I'm actually holding her. I think my PGAL brain is keeping me in denial because of fear.

Just happened yesterday... My mom said "and your birthday is this week - yay!" And I was like "uuuuuuuh, WHAT?!"

I keep thinking I have 2 more months. My EDD is 4/1 and my birthday is 2/13... The fact that my birthday is Thurs means we are halfway through Feb... So, uh, definitely less than 2 mo.

Every night when I wake up to pee (about 4 times) I'm all sleepy and forget I have a big belly until I try to roll over and get out of bed and then I'm like "oh yeah I'm pregnant!" So weird

I had a "I will have a baby before this expires" moment a few weeks ago, but it still hasn't really hit me, so to speak. I think its harder with a toddler running around, all I can focus on is keeping him from killing himself or destroying our house so I haven't really had a minute to think about anything.

At my OB's office this morning, who told me than if I went into labor after 34 weeks they wouldn't try to stop it.

Uh, lady, you know that that's in less than two weeks, right? I mean, LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. Holy shit.

It hit me today when I had weird pains and got nervous. Ended up being a possible kidney infection and not premature labor (phew!) but I realized we have absolutely nothing. I mean nothing. No showers until March. This weekend will be nursery time. Seriously crazy that I'm growing a human.

I've had a couple of "shit got realer" moments, but I'm not sure the definitive moment of "holy mother of FUCK I'm going to be someone's MOM!" will happen until she's either coming out of me or already out and in my arms. My brain seems to have a remarkable denial mode that I've never noticed before getting pregnant. :P
