Go Baby Go modified power wheels

I think DH and I are going to do this for DS1 and DS2

they take power wheels and other powered ride on toys and modify them for physically challenged children.  I love the idea of a switch powered ride on or a remote controlled power wheels.

That is so cool. So cool.

I wonder how long a little kid could use the go baby go and what they'd transition to after.

Would this be something of an attractive nuisance in a mainstream setting where kids who don't require such a device would want a turn. I mean I can see it would be difficult to explain to other kids who are in a preschool atmosphere being taught sharing and turn-taking; older kids would likely be cool with it and happy for your guys.

The self contained classes and APE programs at DS's old elementary had some pretty interesting/fun-looking therapy equipment that was very appealing to other kids in the building, especially in the primary grades and especially kids whose dxs included cognitive or emotional delays.

And whether the combined weight of your child and such a device is enough to harm the supervisor from work or at least cause pain.
i plan to use it more for fun for DS1.  he is in a 100% Sp Ed school so for him it wouldn't give him any type of inclusion among typical peers and it wouldn't really be functional for him in school.  But it could be cool to use at a park situation.

  • I could totally see my NT son (5.5yr old) being all sorts of irritated if he wasn't able to ride on it.  :-)  DS2 (4, CP) would love it but I'm not sure he could actually steer it (he can pedal a bike but not steer it at this point).  I do not think it would be a good idea as a way to get around school though (not that you are thinking of using it that way).

What I do know is that it looks like major fun and I think I would want to ride one too. LOL  :-D
  • Aww! That is awesome!
