My back hurts sooo bad .. I'm 21 weeks.. Anyone have any ideas to help the pain!? Idk what to do! Am I going to be able to make it through the day in a few weeks? Help!!!
You know, I was just complaining about the same thing to my mom today. I got a hot water bottle that I use on ny lower back. It seems to be helping to relax the muscles.
Some light stretching may help or a warm heating pad. Tylenol can also help. Good luck. I like to have a short warm bath to easy my sore lower back as well. It also helps to sleep with a pillow between your knees or a maternity pillow.
P.S. Before the others heap it on you, there is a board for symptoms that people often share these types of things on. It just helps with the overall organization of the board, if you post your symptoms there people will be more than happy to assist you with suggestions.
The heating pad will do wonders! Try 20 mins on, 20 off. I have also found that a good massage helps. Tylenol is worth a shot as well, even though it doesn't do jack for me. My dr said it was fine to use bengay if I wanted to.
I ended up seeing a chiropractor and I swear that man works miracles! That is the only thing that really helped me.
I know whenever something hurts, I need to strengthen those muscles. For me, I bought some prenatal yoga and pilates to help with my sacrum area because it's starting to get sore. But I know I haven't been working out like I used to before I got pregnant, so my muscles are probably weakening. Hopefully exercises will help. GL.
People mentioned other threads, but I'll just say that if you click on the little magnifying glass (next to the number of pages available to view), you'll find previous posts that probably have helpful advice (although it looks like a few of the posted links might be a one stop shop).
I haven't had to deal with back pain too much (sorry!), so I don't have any personal advice. I usually suggest stretching and a heating pad, although I have a friend who is 32 weeks who absolutely needs to see her chiro to keep it in line. I guess there is a particular thing you look for in a chiro to make sure they are okay for pregnancy (I can't remember the term - Wagner theory, maybe? I'm talking out of my ass, sorry!), so double check that if you go that direction.

I have no idea if you're going to re-post this question in another thread so I'll answer here since I just asked my doctor.
My doctor said a warm bath, heating pad and even Thermacare patches are ok. Tylenol won't do much. Make sure to keep your posture nice and upright, get a good bra and the occasional prenatal massage if you can or want to! She told me if mine worsens that insurance usually covers physical therapy more than chiropractors and that she will make a referral.
Being on all fours feels amazing for back pain. I like leaning against the couch. Also try doing pelvic tilts (cat cows). Try googling them to see how they are done. When I have back pain after a long day on my feet at work, I Do a few minutes of these, plus some hip circles (on all fours) and my back feels better immediately.

You're thinking of the Webster technique, which is used to turn breech babies. Not a bad idea to look for a Webster certified chiro, though, bc they have experience with PG women.
If your in really acute pain, definitely go to a good chiropractor and get a referral from your OB for physical therapy. I've been doing both twice a week now and it's made a HUGE difference. A few weeks ago I could barely move or put any weight at all on my left leg. Now I'm moving around and feel 85% better (knock on wood). I really hope you feel better soon, I know it's a special kind of hell to be in that kind if debilitating pain heating pad, warm bath, ice, Tylenol and sleeping with pillows in front of and behind you can help a little in the meantime.
The 'normal' places where questions like this angry posts have already been posted, so maybe try them next time?
I understand being in agony. Have you gone swimming lately? I ask because I have been having excruciating hip pain, and we took DS to the pool this afternoon. Being weightless and being able to give my muscles a chance to love without any of the stress of normal movement seems to have done wonders and they feel better now than they have in weeks. Maybe something to try?
I had to buy a sacroiliac joint belt and I've done a lot of physical therapy. I've even had to get a prescription for hydrocodone because I was in so much pain. I couldn't even get in my car or out of bed and this was when I was like 11 weeks pregnant. With a lot of physical therapy I'm feeling better. Defiantly bring it up to your doctor.
Everyone please be careful about the heating pads. Keep them on LOW setting. Any heat that is too high can cause serious problems for baby. This is why it is vital to go to the hospital if you have a high fever. Please be safe!
Even if you only use it on your back? I know that too much heat on your belly can overheat baby, hence no hot tubs...but is there still a risk without the heat being directly in your stomach?

I take DS swimming once a week for his lessons, being in the water feels so amazing. I have sore hips as well @jnerd and it def helps. Plus I sleep like a goddess those nights
One thing that has helped me a lot is an exercise ball. I rest my knees on the floor and let the whole upper half of my body relax on the ball. Sometimes I slowly roll side to side. I got mine for $8 off Amazon with my last pregnancy (thought it might help with labor) and it has been awesome. I wish I could tell you it gets better, but mine was pretty bad up until birth and I expect that again

If it raises your core temperature, yes. You're never to put it on your abdomen, like you said, but even on your back can cause problems if it is high enough. Just be cautious. I know I preferred my heating pads on boiling lava hot. Haha.
Hmm, good to know. Thanks. I have only been using mine since this afternoon and I like it super hot too. I will just have to be diligent about how hot I feel I guess...but it feels sooo amazing and cozy, especially with all this snow outside, ugh.
@Rachel5130 and @CindyThomas Yes! I should've mentioned that. Keep it on and low-medium and use it in shorter increments of time. Don't ever sleep with it. I love it and use it often but am careful because I was one of those sad cases of getting burned by an electric blanket when I was 12. Totally burned my right butt cheek one night.

I knew I knew enough to almost know something, but not quite! At least I had the "W" right

My chiro has recommended no more than 12 min with low to medium heat. You don't want to overheat the muscle or raise your body temp. She said people use heat too much for soreness and to stretch after the 12 min.

I got a maternity support belt from motherhood maternity for $30. It's a big elastic band that helps support the weight of your belly. I've only worn it a few times so far, but it seems to help me.

A heating pad on your stomach is not always a no-go, just don't keep it there for prolonged periods (which you shouldn't do with a heating pad anyways). Hot packs are actually highly recommended for round ligament pain.

Confused by this, because my physio (who specialises in pre-natal care) recommended heat pads and said they are completely safe so long as you're not putting them directly over baby(on your stomach)? I've never been one for heating or cooling pads so either I'm not bothered but I'm curious about the difference in opinion.
Agree with PP about the pelvic tilts, helps to stretch out your back muscles. Also try tensing your stomach muscles (like "hugging your baby with your stomach") when getting up, sitting down, getting out of the car, etc as it strengthens the support for your back without being strenous which helps. Wasn't sure if you'd come back here or go to the symptom thread so just thought I'd throw my two cents in here. :-)
I always feel liken I am smothering or going to hurt baby when I stretch and pull in stomach muscles...no?
I also have the Bed Buddy...i bought it at walmart for maybe 10$. Its filled with rice, you heat in the microwave for 90 seconds and i use it on my back.
I used the Snoogle pillow during my first pregnancy. I'm on the verge of whipping that out again but have resisted because it s like a 3rd person in our bed..but it helped!
