I just wrote out my whole labor story and the bump lost it so I will try again. I don't think I can write it all again so here is the short version. Thanks for reading. I don't post often, but I needed to write it out somewhere.
After a routine appointment I was sent to labor and delivery on Thursday. I was going to be induced. They broke my water, which was really painful, and then the baby's heartbeat went down. They had me try all kinds of positions and it finally came back up. They had me sign consent forms for an emergency c section in case that might be needed. They were going to start my induction and get me an epidural ASAP. When they started the pitocin baby's heartbeat dropped slowly and then was gone. After changing positions a couple of times it was decided that I needed to deliver right away so I was rushed to the OR. DH was told that he had to stay behind because I was going to be put under.
I was rushed down the hall to the OR and prepped for surgery within about 2 minutes. At 3:07, about 7 minutes after I was brought in, Nathaniel Willis was born. He weighed 8 lbs 2 oz and was 20 1/2 inches long. I have been told that he was very pale and not breathing and had no heart beat. They tried to revive him for about 45 minutes, but we're not successful. I was told all this when I woke up in recovery about an hour later. DH was next to me. Neither of us had seen Nathaniel yet. After I was told what had happened they asked if I wanted to see him, then brought him and laid him on my chest. He was beautiful and perfect and just looked like he was asleep.
We have since been able to have him as much as we want. All the doctors and nurses have been amazing and genuinely want to help us in any way they can. We have talked and cried with all of them. We have also been able to break every rule that there is. We can have visitors whenever we want and get whatever we can think of to ask for.
I have to leave the hospital tomorrow and am not ready to leave without him. I am physically doing really well and could have been discharged today, but I want to spend as much time as possible with him since this is the only chance I will ever have. We have taken tons of pictures and videos of him. All of our family members have come and met him or met him over skype (my family all lives in Alaska). DD has met him, held him, read him stories, and helped dress him. We will have lots of ways to remember him, but of course it's not enough. I know that he is in heaven and I will see him again. Eventually I will be ok.
Thanks for reading. I really just needed to get it out there somewhere. We never announced that we were expecting on Facebook so I didn't want to post there just yet. I actually don't know if I ever will.
