I think tricare should cover them!! It would really help out so many people. Think of the women who would choose to bf.

I would love to have my pump covered by my insurance.
We're expecting baby Jameson!

  • That would be nice! I was shocked when I read tricare was exempt from the new ACA rules regarding breast pumps.

  • I was so surprised when I had my DD that tricare didn't cover them. I mean, they cover everything in pregnancy, I didn't pay a dime out if pocket, so why not this too? Seems like a silly place to draw the line. I hope this passes!

I was a little bummed when I found out because they are so expensive and it would be really awesome if they were covered with tricare like they are with many other insurance companies.  However, virtually everything else is free, and there are so many women who have to shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars between prenatal care and the birth.  (Including women whose finances are just as tight as many military families).  So with everything else being 100% free, it's pretty hard to complain about having to shell out a few hundred dollars for a pump.

  • This would be really nice! I was also surprised that Tricare was exempt from this… But like @tallmomma29, I feel bad complaining about it since I've paid nothing else.

  • Tricare will cover a pump, but only for Premature babies with a medical need. I agree that it'd be nice if it was added, but I already paid OOP for mine last time.

  • I agree that it would be awesome if it went through. However, I will say that I have private insurance and they technically adhere to the ACA guidelines by covering a single, manual pump (like the Medela Harmony). Which will be basically useless for me since I'm having twins. The insurance companies, Tricare included, will find pretty much anyway they can to offset the amount of money they have to pay out to meet the new regulations. So I wouldn't be surprised if you see something similar even if it does pass.

  • I wish my insurance covers pumps, but it specifically lists them as a "convenience".item. stupid.
