Worried wondfos not getting darker

On 12 dpo I had faint positive wondfos. So I took a clear blue and it was positive. I was hoping that my test lines would be darker yesterday, 16dpo but they aren't. My dr appt is scheduled @ 8 weeks. The first is 12dpo, second is 16dpo. I just don't want to get my hopes up and end up with a chemical pregnancy. Thank you!

Re: Worried wondfos not getting darker

  • I'm sorry you are worried, but you really can't tell anything by the darkness of a line. The dye in HPTs is not consistent from test to test, your hydration levels change, etc. While I agree that the progressively darkening HPT series is probably comforting, it isn't something that everyone gets.

Also, Wondfo's are notorious for being light and not really darkening that much. Even my most positive Wondfo's (where my betas are in the tens of thousands) the test line still isn't as dark as the control

  • To reassure you - my Wondfo progression basically looked the same from about 14dpo until 17/18dpo, and then, by 20dpo and that was the last time I tested, it was finally substantially darker, but still not as dark as control line, although close.

Basically - these tests are not designed to do this. They're designed to show a line.. as for the darkness of it.. it can definitely vary and I'm guessing even stop getting darker at one point, they're great tests, but cheap for a reason.. they just don't have that much dye in them.

To ease your mind, I suppose you can invest in some digitals and see if the week is changing in the result, but really.. it's better not to waste the money, and trust me, I'm a huge worry wart.. and was paranoid after my chemical too, but hang in there!

  • Throw the Wondfo's in the garbage! I thought they were supposed to be the best cheapies around that would read the lowest amount of HCG.... the first one I took at 5pm showed a faint second line and I surprised my husband that night.... then I took more days later they weren't even barely registering and it freaked me out! I started taking FRER's and then the clear blue week estimator.
The Clear Blue registers like this: 1-2 weeks is 5-156 HCG level, 2-3 weeks is 157-2600 HCG and 3+ weeks is 2600+. That helps you if you are worried about levels (but maybe thats just me because I go to an RE for infertility so they have me come in for blood work every two days)

  • I had the same worry about my wondfo's.  I picked up another set of FRER and the line was way darker than my first FRER positive. I think the wondfo's are good for basic testing to see if you should spend money on a more expensive/accurate test.

It took some time for my wonfos too.  First test was 11dpo and I wouldn't have been able to sell that there was a line there to anyone but myself.  They didn't get dark enough to make me happy until 18 dpo.  Even my FRER took that long to get as dark as control.
